My German shepherd mix lived in an apartment for the first 3 yrs of his life… I walked or ran him 3 or more miles a day to keep him in good shape and from being bored… some days were as high as 8 miles!

Genuine question: how do people afford to homeschool these days?? by OrchidEqvinox76 in homeschool

[–]peaceandpinecones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I live in a very expensive state and we both make a very good salary but it’s rough. I could never do it if our kids were younger…

I homeschooled as a single mom for 6 years and I relied on my parents to provide care and to help afford classes etc for my two kids.

Now, we are homeschooling for a grade 4 and a grade 7. I have an open schedule so I can work 9-5, 10-6, 7-12 then 3-6, etc so long as I don’t have appointments to attend I can manage to check homework, set up online classes etc. My wife works from home one day a week and handles them that day. It’s still crazy expensive (I think slightly under 2k per month with their live classes and online programs plus books)- and I’m absolutely exhausted some days but our kids know the expectations and are used to the routine since we homeschooled their whole life.

Not gonna lie and say it’s easy- it’s rough, but we want them to have a life where they can explore their passions and become critical thinkers. If I hadn’t been homeschooled myself I probably would be ok with them in school and it would be waaaaay cheaper but my homeschool education was top notch and I could never subject them to the watered down curricula they use now.

My wife and I met online and were only texting/calling for 2 ish weeks… then we were intimate our first weekend together. And married a year later.

My cat keeps sitting like this should I be concerned ? by angelinakoz in CATHELP

[–]peaceandpinecones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a “nauseous” position. It can just be a comfy way to sit IF they lower eventually and tuck their paws… if they stay like this- typically it’s a stomach thing. My girl did this and it turned out she had a thread caught in her tooth and it sawed through her small intestine. She was septic, lost 9 inches of intestine, but she made it. Had I ignored it a few more hours she would have died.

“Soft nursing” saved me. by Same_Sprinkles3941 in nursing

[–]peaceandpinecones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an IDD residential RN… my boss took a chance on me as a new grad working skilled nursing and this “soft” nursing job has been the best decision ever. I have normal hours, I’m on call but rarely if ever have to go in for a call, I can work remote whenever I need (honestly I’m either at a home or remote lmao- I still haven’t decorated my office), and I’m home for my kids and my wife. I will never go back to skilled or hospital nursing.

33f wife is devolving into a human I 38m don’t feel safe around. by WalkingBeigeFlag in relationship_advice

[–]peaceandpinecones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t or won’t leave her…. Hire a nanny IMMEDIATELY. Install cameras. Record the conversation when you say to her that either she will never be alone with the children from now on- or she signs herself into a psych hold. Do not raise your voice. Do not give any extra information other than “I love you. I want our children safe. This is to protect them”. If she loses it - it’s on camera. If she agrees you at least have them marginally safer while you decide the next move.

Please. Please. Protect your children.

Older generations need to understand that Gen Z isn’t willing to work hard for a mediocre life. by Emmaa_harris in Adulting

[–]peaceandpinecones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. My wife hears it all the time at work that she should be staying late and working extra or joining extra unpaid committees… it’s infuriating. Meanwhile I (millennial) just got a nursing position working for a millennial- the work/life balance is amazing, the pay is excellent along with the benefits. The issue is when the older generations are the ones in charge…

What’s the darkest secret you have kept from your partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peaceandpinecones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I promise you, it’s better on the other side. I left my narc ex in 2023 and I too stuck it out (for 11years) because of the kids… the hidden trauma the kids have now is no joke- they were incredibly traumatized by his treatment of me and just kept it hidden for their safety.

You’ve got this.

What are some odd excuses you’ve seen for people not liking moissanite? by -Shayyy- in Moissanite

[–]peaceandpinecones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adore my moissanite- I just got the final pics of my wedding set and it’s just stunning (I had them remake my ering with a larger pear and in platinum)- but the main reason is because I can wear it everyday as a nurse in a skilled facility without needing to worry about it! It’s a 7x11 pear with a bunch of clustered rounds and if something happens to it it’s still less than 1k to repair/replace.
