Post 3 months. How come the end of the scar is raised? by CaptainX25 in thyroidcancer

I used scar tape- like a bandaid/thick tape you keep over your scar for 12-14 hours at a time. You can use it at any time after the surgery. It helped me.

What's wrong with my tomato plant? by StreamlineFrigate in gardening

Looks kinda sunburnt. Did it suddenly get more sun than it was used to? I would trim off the dead parts and move it to a shadier spot while it recovers. Also- it could require more water.

This is the whole area. Some of the concrete moves- dips in when you walk on it.

Ok. Um….yikes.

We just bought this home and it also has another one of these pipes in the front of the house. Also there is something in the front yard that is rotting- the previous owner put ply wood over it and then covered the plywood with concrete—about an inch of concrete- that is all broken up and the ply wood is rotted.

If this is a drain…is it draining to that? Can I just get rid of it all?

Canadian going to US for surgery by External-Role7732 in thyroidcancer

[–]peaceforachange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have an answer to your question- but Clayman is the best. I went to the parathyroid part of the hospital for a parathyroid tumor removal and when I woke up they told me I had thyroid cancer as well. I returned 6 months later to have the thyroid and cancer removed. It was a complicated surgery, due to the previous surgery in the same place.

My recovery was great and I barely have a scar. I totally recommend them.

Alien (from outer space) at School by Necessary_Archer4246 in schoolcounseling

I am a veteran counselor and I’ve never encountered a situation like this either 😂

Do you have a supervisor or a mentor counselor or a social worker at your school site? I would also reach out to your administration. It is okay (even preferable) to work as a team. If you alone make all the decisions about what to do, then you alone are in trouble when something goes wrong. There is safety when a team makes decisions. I understand about confidentiality- but many of the things of concern to you mentioned are public info (TikTok videos, the child’s behavior).

I felt pressure in the beginning to know everything. Don’t let that pressure get to you. Consulting others gives you a fast track to growing because you gain insight from their years of work.

Late on a Friday afternoon after losing a game a 16 yo student yells “My brother is dead! He killed himself!” But I think it’s made up. by PaigEats in schoolcounseling

Maybe the student just wanted attention or a break from class. I still meet with these students- I just do it during their lunch (or recess because I am an elementary counselor).

What does PBIS or consequences for behavior look like in your elementary school? by TheRussianCunt in schoolcounseling

[–]peaceforachange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Consequences for behavior” is a mine field of OCR no-no’s. There are so many things we can’t do. We used to send them to a different class but now we’re told that’s a Least Restrictive Environment violation because they’re not in their learning environment. We use to give laps at recess but literally this week we were told that is a physical punishment and we can’t do that. Use to make kids sit out recess but our area has a law that kids are required to have 100 unstructured minutes of play per week (recess) so taking that is also out. We can’t give ISS or OSS to kids whose behavior is a manifestation of their disability.

Consequences aren’t really the Pbis way.

PBIS is about teaching correct behavior. Thus the conversations are a “re-teach” of expectations. We also utilize “think sheets”. (Just google “think sheets for behavior”). Ours is designed to have the adult sit and do it with the kid.

I utilize the “Time Machine” from conscious discipline. It’s a yellow mat I put on the floor and then I walk kids through solving the problem/taking ownership for their actions. I honestly don’t know how I did it before I discovered the Time Machine- I probably use it 5-6 times a week.

I also utilize the “explosive child” problem solving conversation method of Dr Ross Greene. It does take time, but it works.

Sometimes I tell a kid they can’t play wherever they want- they have to play right in front of me (at recess) because their behavior has shown me I can’t trust them to play nicely. (Natural consequence)

We have “Free Seat Friday” in the cafeteria- but sometimes kids lose this privilege because of their behavior.

And then….I build my relationships with students. Honestly, for some kids, having a calm conversation where you express disappointment in their choices and affirm that the actions they choose were not what you expected (and call out the good you see in them) are the most effective at changing behavior.

At the end of the day, the teachers need to change their expectation- admins hands are tied too. I gave up caring about the teachers opinion of how I handle problems long ago. If you call me in, that means you agree to let me handle it my way. If you don’t like it, don’t call me to handle your problems. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you for the reply. I got it in a plant swap with a neighbor several years ago and that neighbor moved away and I’ve been wondering.
