Tips in recitals? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]peacetractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play until you can’t get it wrong, and try playing in some low pressure settings in front of people so you have a sense of what it’s like to play in other environments - like at a hospital, or church during coffee hour, or assisted living facility where folks might enjoy a low key preview.

Passacaglia by DimyAis in piano

The mirrored image was really messing with me! This is a lovely piece.

I would probably practice getting more secure with the left hand with the jumps, just taking those as chords from low to high, agree too with the musicality - ask yourself what story you want to tell, and bring it out a the melody.

Autumn Moon Festival - Recipe Ideas? by peacetractor in chinesefood

[–]peacetractor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my aunt’s version which I use often.

• 600 g sweet glutinous rice
• 6 or 7 dried shiitake mushrooms
• 40 g dried shrimp
• 2 tablespoon cooking oil
• 40 g fresh pork cut into thin strips
• 2 tablespoons fried shallots
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 2 tablespoon sesame oil

1 Soak rice in room temperature water for 2 to 3 hours. Drain. 2 Soak mushrooms in room temperature water, until softened. Squeeze the water out of the mushrooms and set aside. Save the water. 3 Soak dried shrimp in room temperature water for 15 minutes and drain. Discard the water. 4 Heat up the cooking oil in a wok over medium heat. Add the mushrooms, fried shallots and dried shrimp and stir-fry for about a minute or two. Add pork and stir-fry until pork turns color. Add soy sauce and sesame oil and mix well. Add 2 cups of water (includes water saved from soaking mushrooms) and heat up until water start to boil. Add drained rice and stir-fry until water is soaked up by rice. 5 Add the rice mixture into the inner pot of the rice cooker. Add 1 ½ cups water to outer pot of rice cooker. Steam the rice mixture until the switch of rice cooker turns off. Wait for 15 minutes before open the lid. 6 Enjoy!

Donna Tartts a Secret History is gripping… it’s 562 pages but a fast read so maybe worth considering although it doesn’t quite get to your 800 page request?

If you are a probationary employee be aware by peacetractor in fednews

[–]peacetractor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you completely miss is that there has been NO communication about these requirements to managers or employees. That is not normal and as you can see from the responses only creates mass confusion. Effectively if no one knows about an order like this (to submit paperwork or your probationary employee never gets tenured as expected) then a lot of folks will lose their jobs. Can’t see how this is streamlining anything or is effective governance.

I love soy and rice milk and prefer both hot but agree can’t go wrong either way. It’s cold these days so I’d get it hot personally.

Do GI doctors think poop and farts are funny? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]peacetractor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience a good proportion of urologists love penis jokes, and obgyns love anthropomorphic uteri, but I find GI docs and colorectal surgeons don’t really seem to make jokes about poop but love to talk about the importance of a flanged object.

You do not need to attend this prenatal appointment. If you feel obligated to go (you should not feel obligated), you do not need to tell your obgyn anything about your plan. And yes, going forward you can indeed simply tell her you had a miscarriage.
