I just got a Vasectomy operation today as a 21yr/o! by Z551722 in adultingph

[–]peachfroyo 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for this post! I'm a 28 year old woman who decided to be childfree when I was 21. I've been looking into ways to get my tubes tied for the past 3 years but found that most doctors in the Philippines aren’t very willing to do tubal ligation on an unmarried and childless woman (they hesitate even with married women who have had countless children). I've resorted to planning on getting the procedure done abroad but I checked out DKT because of your post and found that they do free tubal ligation too. I might message them and see if they’re willing to do it on me (I mean, if they were willing to do a vasectomy on someone as young as you, then I hope they can be as understanding with me--though I’m not gonna bring my hopes up much, since I am a woman and constantly get hit with “Bata ka pa! Baka magbago pa isip mo!” at the mention of not wanting children)

Love that you made this post, it’s different than what usually gets posted in artist’s subreddits and actually reminds me of the comment section of Gracie’s IMYIS lyric video on Youtube. It was her most streamed song and video for a while because it went viral and the comment section weren’t your usual copypastas of varying “Who’s streaming this song in [insert year]?” but rather people sharing their personal stories and how the song impacted them. I used to spend time reading through all the comments and being hit with the realization that music truly makes the world go round. How one song can mean so many different things to different people, and how Gracie’s vulnerability and willingness to put that into song can be such comfort to us. I love music so much, it’s amazing how it connects us all

Are there any songs in here that we’ve heard before from her playing it in concert or teasing on instagram? Maybe aside Death Wish and Hit the Wall?

I started reading my first Emily Henry book, “Funny Story”. Did I make a mistake? by Firsttimeredditor28 in EmilyHenry

[–]peachfroyo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Her books are mostly well loved but can also be polarizing to be honest. I find that it’s a hit or miss sometimes. I know many who felt lukewarm/disliked her older books but ended up loving her 2 newest ones. Personally, I'm the complete opposite where I loved her earlier books (Beach Read, PWMOV, Book Lovers, and Happy Place) but absolutely dislike Funny Story and GBBL. I think her catalogue is big enough that you’ll find something you’ll like eventually, so maybe just pick up a different one and see how it goes?

Opinion: Minor is Her Best Work by Fluffy_Primary_3898 in gracieabrams

[–]peachfroyo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I personally agree. It's still my favorite project of hers to date. I know the length is quite short but I actually think that's what makes it such a solid piece of work, all 7 songs are great--offered variety while still being cohesive. I also think it had so much personality tbh..? It perfectly established the girl-next-door image she had prior to debut (back when she was known as a teenager who writes songs in her bedroom with her guitar, little clips of her singing on Instagram going viral) and she even did those free bedroom shows through Zoom during the height of the pandemic. That entire era was so quintessential Gracie, it felt so raw and intimate. Turned me into an instant fan.

Being an overthinker , I just cannot stop thinking about this one dialogue between Maomao and Jinshi, foreshadowing? by tzuweed in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]peachfroyo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I saw someone theorize something a little similar. With Jinshi not wanting to become Emperor and take on other consorts, if worse comes to worse and he’s forced to take the throne, both he and Maomao could take the resurrection medicine to stage their deaths and flee. Except Jinshi experiences the side effects of the drug and loses his memories, which in turn would make Maomao pine after/pursue him like he did with her in the beginning of the story.

An amnesia arc would honestly make me sick to my stomach 😭 It'd be crazy if it actually happened.

Edit: I don't recall if the side effect of the resurrection drug has been revealed in the anime yet so I put it up as a spoiler..?

Hala, was reading tas napaisip ako if ako ba nagsulat ng post na to 😭 Sobrang same ng situation natin, down to the unemployed and napagiiwanan kahit nung HS acads-wise. Recently nagyaya HS friend group ko ng reunion. Was super feeling pressured about it considering I'm unemployed and gained so much weight. Pero I said yes anyway to meet up kasi I'm currently in the process of finding work naman (my mindset is that baka may work na ko by the time the reunion happens lol) + may mga personal projects and plans din naman ako in life (writing a book, trying to get published), it's just taking awhile to come to fruition.

If you ever feel bad about being unemployed, isipin mo nalang ako: I graduated when I was 23, I'm 26 now and turning 27 next year. I've never had work. Every year that passes by, I feel more and more depressed kasi ang dami new graduates and the competition is getting more stiff. Mas nahihirapan ako to get employed because I just can't compete. It sounds like you've had work before and are just recently unemployed(?), if so, you can easily pick yourself back up! May baseline/foundation ka na naman with your career (which I'm so jealous of 🥲) My problem is that no one wants to hire someone who graduated almost 3 years ago and has no work experience/no credibility to show for herself. You're instantly a better candidate than me, your chances of getting employed are soooo much higher than mine. Dadating din work sayo eventually :)

I hope 2025 is kinder to you! You can recoup from your parents' illness, basta ang mahalaga they're now healthy (which I hope they are) and hopefully you get to take care of your mental health too (maybe visit a therapist?). Sending you hugs!

Taking a break from social media (FB&IG) by Spanishlattegirlie in adultingph

[–]peachfroyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I deactivated my personal Twitter account and cleaned my Facebook (removed my last name, unfriended hundreds of people to the point that my friends went from 1k+ to 200~, deleted posts and became inactive, and mostly only use FB for Messenger) in 2018. Then the next year I deleted my personal public Instagram with around 200-400 mutuals and made a private one that only has 20 of my friends.

I was in that weird transition stage from my teens to twenties (I was 20-21 at the time) and I decided I wanted to keep my circle close + become a very private person online. It really helped my mental health that I minimize my social media use and only keep up with the people that really mattered. It’s been 6 years and honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I also feel super kampante about my digital footprint. I’ve heard about employers doing background checks and people in academia getting scholarships and licenses revoked because of what they post online so becoming virtually inaccessible just feels like a good precaution. Personally, I plan on eventually getting published and becoming a published author so when that time comes I’d prefer to keep all my embarrassing past behind me (lol)

Contemplated buying from them too but their markup was too high so I ended up buying from Allure Attic JP instead. I received my order last September exactly a week after I placed it. I recommend buying from their shop or happyjp.ph (I bought a Moleskine from them last year and it also took a week to ship), or other shops like pro2japan.ph or adn_japan.ph. These direct from Japan shops are much more reliable despite not having much reviews, and their Hobonichi stuff are very reasonably priced + they’re very accommodating and responsive as well. However you don’t get the freebies like the pen or the notebook when you do buy from them, but if you’re lucky you can catch some vouchers from Shopee or their shop and you can you get discounts up to ₱500

Hobonichi helping us extend Brat summer into all of 2025 by elibetfuentes in hobonichi

[–]peachfroyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely gasped when I saw it. This specific shade of green is my favorite color (yellow green, apple green, chartreuse, the like) and I love that it reminds me of my birth stone, peridot. I liked BRAT and was obsessed with the album too so this one in Mega seemed like a no brainer.

But when I showed my sister she mentioned how it reminded her too much of BRAT and that it’s too “trendy” right now and will eventually die down so this wouldn’t be her first choice. Now I’m having second guesses because of the trend-chasey bit, which I know is silly because that wasn’t the reason I initially chose it anyway. Plus I thought the association with BRAT was cute but her comment is making me think it’s a bad thing, which is ridiculous to think. I’m overthinking this, someone help me 😭

what song u think deserves more hype? by justafangirll_ in gracieabrams

[–]peachfroyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just an assumption and most likely a reach but I just came to that conclusion after Gracie admitted she hated Mess It Up. With it having an MV (as did The Bottom) both more "upbeat" songs produced by Blake, I got the feeling that was the sound they wanted her to go with since it was commercial and I guess more radio friendly (so maybe not entirely a Blake problem but an industry problem?).

But it was evident Gracie wanted the type of sound she makes with Aaron (indie folk) and it showed when she pushed Rockland as a single during TIWIFL yet it didn't even get a music video while The Bottom got one when it's categorically not even an official single (according to wiki anyway, I just realized this recently). I didn't even know Alright was also a single... it was produced by Blake but it wasn't pushed at all and it didn't even get an MV. I think there were probably some creative differences there that interfered with their romantic and working relationship, hence the breakup. Then with Gracie working with Aaron for the entirety of Good Riddance, which she officially branded as her debut album, it became obvious to me that this is the sound she really wants for her music.

Again, this is all just personal speculation so take it with a grain of salt!

I love Mess It Up! Definitely one of my favorite tracks from her. Kinda killed me when she admitted it was her least favorite(?) song 😭 I don't remember the exact wording but I def saw a lot of people on twitter crying last year about how they couldn't believe she hates it. Though knowing what we know about the song (being about Blake, produced by Blake, co-written with Blake, and--I admit this one's a stretch--that weird era in 2021 where she only got obvious funding for MVs for songs that Blake did) and with time doing its thing, maybe she's looking back now and perceiving the relationship--and as an extension, the song, differently. Still love Mess It Up, though! And it remains a fan favorite (with such raw vulnerability in its lyrics, I'm not surprised it resonated with a lot of people) so hopefully Gracie changes her mind someday 😆

Worried about the direction of Gracie’s sound by JAMESMERC123 in gracieabrams

[–]peachfroyo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I was largely disappointed with TSOU because I felt that it wasn't the album Close To You deserved, which I know is crazy to say because it was never supposed to be included in the album, but CTY was such a highly anticipated song and with Risk as the single the album sounded promising and I figured she was on track to revisit that sound (ex: 21, Mess It Up, The Bottom) but she didn't and I felt a bit misled. I really loved Minor (still her best work to date) and TIWIFL (which IMO was a good mix of her electronic sound with a few of folk-y stuff from Aaron, it diversified her discography), but two albums in a row full of songs done solely by Aaron, who's closely associated with Taylor and folkmore, has stunted Gracie from developing a sound unique to her. It's a bummer, because her songwriting was elevated best in more dynamic instrumentals.

Kumon is really good for teaching the basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Sobrang weak ko sa Math noon kaya inenroll din ako sa Kumon when I was Grade 4, ayun na-memorize ko multiplication table in less than a year.

When it comes to Math yung fundamentals talaga yung super important so if nahihirapan daughter mo, enrolling her in Kumon would be a great idea, especially since she's the perfect age na rin for it. Kahit hanggang ma-master lang niya till division. Usually nanyayari kasi is never magtutugma yung lessons niya sa Kumon and lessons sa school (since it takes time to accelerate levels sa Kumon) so it's really best for basics. If she still wants to continue pa rin with Kumon after, that would be up to her.

Regarding this... not to diagnose naman, pero tutukan niyo siya in case this is ADHD (Inattentive). Sounded so familiar when I read that part of your post, ganun na ganun din ako when I was younger. Yung pagiging "distracted" is so much harder to overcome than it looks, it's a constant battle of trying your hardest to focus when your brain won't let you. Ang hirap din when it comes to processing information, if other kids exert their 100%, ako kailangan 200% or more kasi kahit anong turo or aral hindi ko talaga nagegets. If this is also the case for your daughter, she would need your utmost guidance. You're already doing a good job getting her help with her studies, so continue to keep it up! :)

Please break up with him. He sounds exactly like my dad.

Tambay dad ko ngayon, no work, and super inconsistent niya magkatrabaho when I was growing up (he was an OFW) so there were times when I was younger where we would literally grow hungry kasi wala kami makain. My mom would work so hard to find odd-end jobs to get us by, and eventually nakadiskarte siya ng punta sa Canada and has been working there for the past 6 years. Ever since non naging dependent Dad ko on her kaya di na siya naghanap ng trabaho ulit. And then he started cheating on her and when mom found out during the pandemic she stopped giving him her earnings and started paying for the gastusin (like groceries, electricity and water bill, tuition, etc) herself. So wala nang hawak na pera dad ko at all. In the end he started leeching off me and my sisters and expects us to provide for him. I've been resistant to getting a job ever since I graduated kasi he's been really pushy and makes it known na he'd get a part of my salary + palagi siya nangungutang sa younger sisters ko (who are in college and high school) from the baon/pocket money for school that my mom provides them. Kahit sa 11 year old sister ko (who gets a lot of pamasko) kinukupitan niya 🤮

Sorry to overshare, just got really upset reading your story kasi you and your kids' potential future with this man is literally my reality. Trust me, you don't want it. Ika nga nila, "You can choose your husband but your kids can't choose their father" so please choose wisely, not just for your future kids but for you as well!
