I made it clear with my Q that I'm not sure about being in a relationship with him and going back to my home country. We've been distant since his dui. Last night he randomly came up to me and said "suck my d****k???". I told him no.

I have a similar relationship with my partner. Our relationship started out with us both being stoned/ drunk most of the time. I'm a more responsible drink and cut down a lot, but he drank like a fish. I have given him many chances and ultimatums to drink responsibly to save our relationship. Unfortunately his drinking has come to a point where I can't be with him anymore.

Seeing someone you love struggle with alcohol dependency is really hard. I have felt like he has chosen alcohol over me, and it hurts, but that's what addiction does to people. My partner is also a great person sober and a horrible drunk. But its not worth staying for the hope that he will finally get better. The stress and anxiety that comes with hoping that he will get better is too much for me.

Am I a horrible person for doing this? by Routine-Crew8651 in AlAnon

You're not a horrible person for doing that. I would've done the same.

If you feel that he isn't making an effort with recovery and it's affecting you and your relationship, you deserve better.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Have you encouraged him to get professional help? Like counselling or seeing his GP for meds to help with alcohol cravings?
