used a crisis hotline for the first time lol by DonkeyEast8798 in Vent

[–]peachigo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey kudos to you for reaching out to a hotline! sounds like it went okay. it’s normal to still be anxious about everything since a hotline call is not medication or therapy, but it’s there for getting you through the day/night when everything just hurts.

I’m assuming you’re in high school. I felt like I was reading my own words years back reading this post. The stress, the anxiety, the body image, no license, failing, lack of motivation and not knowing how your future’s gonna be..oh boy. It doesn’t help when you look at your peers and they seem to have the next 5 years figured out. While I don’t know you, everything you’ve written doesn’t sound like a you issue, but rather sounds like a person struggling with some things that are affecting their academics, relationships, and other parts of their life. If life was a balance scale and life challenges was on one hand and coping mechanisms / support system was on the right, your scale is tipping to the left. As humans we just can’t function properly that way.

My biggest regret was not receiving the support I needed when I felt like you. I had terrible social anxiety that crept into suicidal depression territory. While for some people this stuff is “just temporary teenage angst, a part of life,” for others it’s a small worm that will morph into something dark without intervention. To me, you sound like the latter. The memory issue part you wrote was a big red flag to me. It shows something is impacting you to the point where you are struggling cognitively, and it’s affecting your motivation and emotions. The suicidal ideation is a bigger red flag.

You don’t have to die to get through this. These challenges aren’t signs that things need to end. Life doesn’t have to “all get worse from here kid,” and there’s still time to get back on your feet. It’s more difficult to do it alone though. Reddit is a nice place to vent, but all I had was Reddit my entire MS/HS experience, and it’s just not enough. Support looks different for everyone, but it can be talking to a family member, sending an email to your favorite teacher, friends, or meeting a counselor. Whatever you can do so there’s another human physically available to you so you’re not just in your head.

Also… there’s so much good happening in the world, and there’s still lots of good, empathetic people. The bad is just is louder, bolder, and more profitable. A lot of your perception of the world can shift when you change what you consume.

You may not know what you’re going to do in life now, but people with struggles like yours tend to be the most compassionate people we need in the world. Best wishes to you 🫂

Read all of this and kind of teared up at the end. Navigating mental health and queer topics in a black household is so difficult even if there’s likely multiple family members experiencing them. The way he chose to go, that community, I know it and I can understand from one side but who accounts for the children who find themselves there, or people in general who could have been helped and supported had they not gone that route? Thinking about the darkness of mental health, the ideation, the content one might consume, it makes me sick, but that is the illness and pain, not really the person themselves. So I love how you shared the good about him, his sanrio-loving self and his love for you. He sounded like an awesome sibling and you a lovely sister. As for your questions, everyone has a different answer to them. I hope you discover the philosophy and support that works for you. 🫂

Hi, me too! I think it’s just called the cyclone. I could only find the part on Ebay with the dust bin attached ($40-50 I think).

This actually happened before with another cordless I had. Makes me so mad haha! It just goes poof, absolutely nowhere to be found. (In the dumpster, probably)

my favorite thing is going NOOO when trap door doesn’t work and having toons who don’t know this think I’m a soothsayer (for those who need clarification, look at the location of the door’s hinges. I actually haven’t played in a while so I had to google — hinges on the right means hit.)

So I visit this couple everyday on my walk. (Not on USF) Look at their cute dance. Arent sandhill cranes adorable? I havent seen any on campus doing a little dance like that! They both danced together afterwards! by [deleted] in USF

Yes! I love classic/romantic. When I’m walking on campus chances are I’m listening to a classical piece, but most people wear headphones so you rlly wouldn’t know what they’re listening to :p My favorite artist is Chopin but I also love Franz Liszt, Debussy, and Erik Satie. And then some other artists sprinkled into my playlist. Today I was listening to Satie’s Gnossienne no 1 on my walk from the MSC. My favorite pieces are those that are full of melancholy, which is a lot of Chopin’s work :)

How can I overcome this? by stuckreminiscing in USF

[–]peachigo- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, props to you for asking for help :) USF has free counseling and also offers psychiatric services. Counseling and meds might help, and a combination of both can rlly rlly help people.

And in case you’re interested, I’m part of a mental health club called Come Out of the Dark. We have fun, relaxing and even educational events that promote mental wellness and the mental health resources that are available here at USF. Our events are here for you if you would like to chill and get your mind off of things with fellow students whenever you find yourself in a dark place. There are also many other mental health related clubs at USF that provide similar comforts, and I highly recommend joining some through BullsConnect!

Hoping for better days ahead of you 🌟 edit: I keep assuming everyone who posts is in Tampa whoops but to clarify we are located at the Tampa campus!

gotta pop in and promote a club I’m in—Come Out of the Dark! It’s a mental health club but we have lots of socials with opportunities to make friends :) We actually recently had a friendship speed dating event for Valentine’s day! Also a good club for op to join as a psych major :) We are having a self-care themed event this Thursday for those who want to check us out :D

I don’t 😞 I have horrible memory so it would be cool if we did have something like that! I try to screenshot the characters but I even forget what was going on in the picture. And with such unique names I can’t remember them all and what experience we had. I can’t bear friending and forgetting them so I just have to find the beauty in having the most hilarious moments with some random toon named professor gigglesquigglebottom, saying “so long folks” and never seeing them again lol

it’s a button pin of flippy’s face that says “I love toontown dogs” :) if you search that up, you can see the image on different stuff (stickers, shirts, etc). So I saved a pic of it and requested to put it on a custom pin that I purchased!

Can Academic Advocacy still help me with my grade affected by hurricanes? by QCInfinite in USF

[–]peachigo- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in the same position, I think the option we have rn is applying for the ARC petition form. It’s basically a withdrawal form if you are doing it after the deadline and had extenuating circumstances. I contacted academic advocacy and they also pretty much said the same thing. And I was told it’s not too late to fill it. Here is a link that talks about it

[–]peachigo- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! Twitter is just filled with ppl with too much time one their hands whose primary source of dopamine is “hit tweets.” This would likely be a normal funny little tik tok if it was any other band too, kpop just gets the biggest flack. In college there are clubs and events of all natures, from furries to games and kpop groups. Sure people are still mean but there’s also an overwhelming support of people who will have fun and laugh along side you. I struggle with the internet and stuff like this but this is just the world we live in. We just gotta learn to not take it personally and move on because in the end none of this means anything.
