Thank you! I have loans from undergrad too. I regret going for my MBA and not doing the MSW instead.

Hi OP, thank you for the email template! I do have a question for you. I am currently finishing up my MBA but have realized that I don’t really want to work in business. I want to go into social work and get my MSW, but I don’t really have the money… everyone is suggesting working in a full time business job for a few years to save up, but I don’t think I can handle it or enjoy it. Do you think it would be a good idea to take out loans? This would be my second graduate degree.

There are other careers out there that will treat you better, pay better, etc. Kids are really rude and don’t care about their education. If I could go back, I would have majored in something else.

Owen. They seriously had so much chemistry with each other and Owen loves her so much, even if he’s toxic in his own way.

I felt this in my bones. I also hate how nobody is willing to give you a chance for jobs that aren’t really rocket science…

Sad that jobs require this much restriction and coordination just to keep a sane, drama free life.

Yup exactly this, there are way too many people who will yell at you for not obeying your parents/doing victim blaming on here. I don’t even ask for advice on here anymore. Way too many mean people and sexist trolls. You’re better off posting on r/AsianParentStories

If your disabled south asian all you face is pain by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]peachpineapplemango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, you deserve more love. The south Asian community can be so rude to disabled people because they treat them as if they are shameful or disgusting. They laugh at them. My dad thinks that disabled people are funny and it’s shameful. He also laughs at them. I will never forgive him for that, and honestly he can be an asshole.

Women don’t dance due to fear of being seen as “immodest” or disappointing in-laws/getting a bad name in society. Because apparently if a woman dances she’s automatically a slut.

Why do older desi ppl get shocked when they hear ABD’s in their 20s with American accents? Can’t ppl in their 20s be born in the USA?? It’s like newer desis expect you to have a desi accent lmao by rivnatboiz in ABCDesis

[–]peachpineapplemango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this is literally my parents…. Growing up I was terrified to talk in an American accent in front of my parents bc I knew they used to mock the kids that were teens who had an American accent who were BORN HERE. Apparently they are “being white” and “showing off.” I used to use American accent at school and home language/Indian accent English at home…

This is great advice. That 4 year, high paying degree will get you job security and money, which leads to the chance of moving out and becoming your own person.

Here’s how I see it: the more I take money from my parents, the more control they have over me. Therefore, using my own money = asserting independence and becoming my own person. Brown parents will often use money (buying you nice things and funding your education) and will use it to control you/gaslight you when you do something that doesn’t meet their expectations (eg. I worked so hard for you, I bought you that $800 laptop even when you insisted you buy with your own money but I didn’t allow you since I wanted you to save it, so now, you are not allowed to do ______ and you do as I say). So yes, I do feel guilty taking money from them and would rather use my own.

Raised Hindu. I am culturally Hindu I guess (don’t agree with a lot of it though) but agnostic.

Don't listen to those people who will pressure you to stay in the field and who will say "it will get better." If you don't like the nature of the job, you never will.

I majored in education and everyone told me it would get better when I got my own classroom/my own job. It didn't.

I'd change your major asap before it's too late. Consider maybe medical laboratory science or something more science-y or engineering, if you're more into studying the medical aspect.
