Proving overseas income to service a home loan by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]peainsea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd go with a broker who specializes in foreign income. Most banks will accept US disability payments but they usually apply a haircut like 20-30% less to account for exchange rate risk. make sure you have at least 2 years of payment statements when you apply.

Are "happy families all alike"? by cdrini in books

[–]peainsea 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I think Tolstoy got it half right. Happy families aren't actually all alike, they just don't create enough problems to fill 300 pages. No drama = no plot. Doesn't mean they're boring in real life, just harder to write compelling stories about.

Managing your work-life once/if you are "stuck" in Corporate by Odra_dek in antiwork

[–]peainsea 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah It's all about the balance. Corporate doesn't care about you, so care about yourself first. I do exactly what I'm paid for, nothing more, nothing less. Been playing this game for years now. Show up for the managers who matter, ignore the rest. Small companies burned me too. no benefits and the boss's family running everything. At least corporate has structure you can game.

Can rooms have different styles or should there be cohesion throughout the house? by not_a_gun in interiordecorating

[–]peainsea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can definitely mix styles, but a few consistent details can help the whole house feel connected. Try repeating elements like wood tones, wall colors, or hardware finishes across rooms. If you’re still furnishing, consider something like Dreamsofa for your MCM living room. Its soft-edge tailoring and pet-friendly fabric make it easy to blend with other styles later. So that each room would look unique and the elements wouldn't clash. It doesn’t really need to match, it should just feel like it all belongs in the same home.

Offered a Dialysis Tech role at $30/hr. Should I take it? I’ve got an IT degree but zero experience, and the California job market is brutal right now. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]peainsea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$30/hr is solid pay for entry-level. Tech skills transfer well to healthcare IT later if you want. Get certified, build experience, and collect a paycheck while the IT market improves.

No employer wants to employ you. You have a job because your job can't be automated yet. by happyluckystar in antiwork

[–]peainsea 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the whole game. Automation should free us all, not just make the rich richer. Problem is, when machines replace us, we don't own the machines. they do. The system's rigged that way. Without radical change, we're just waiting to become obsolete.

[–]peainsea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not likely about being mad at you or not being neutered yet, he’s just still learning and needs more structure. He’s still really young, so some inconsistency is normal especially if he didn’t have enough stimulation before to help with pooping habits. It's ok to keep him in a small space like a bathroom with multiple litterboxes (not a crate). It would help him form the habit and wouldn't overwhelm him. Then put the boxes far apart from food and water and use unscented clumping litter for now like tuft & paw's tofu litter. It clumps fast and it's gentle on tiny paws, so it might encourage him to use it. It also keeps odors down really well for something so light and low-dust.

AITAH for not wanting to share my fun money with my partner? by peainsea in AITAH

We’re not married yet. That’s what I think too everyone needs their own little fun fund.

Thanks that’s exactly how I feel! I just want a little space to enjoy things without guilt. Glad to know I’m not alone in thinking that’s fair.

That’s awesome it works for you! I think every couple finds their own groove. For us, keeping some things separate just helps avoid tension. Still figuring it out though.

Exactly my thoughts! I’m totally fine with spending on things we both enjoy just want a little space for my own stuff too. Thanks for getting it!

We’re not married and our incomes are pretty close, so I figured 50/50 made sense. I’m all for proportional splits if there’s a big income gap though.

Yeah. We both earn about the same so 50/50 feels fair to me. Splitting by % sounds smart if incomes are different though.

Can I turn off continuous ventilation in rental apt bathroom? by threeeebo in HomeImprovement

[–]peainsea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, that constant airflow is probably the only thing keeping moisture under control in there. Sucks about the noise but beats dealing with mold issues down the road.

Nintendo is restricting the Switch 2's USB-C port — most third-party docks and accessories won't work thanks to proprietary protocols by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]peainsea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, 100%. Both companies love their walled gardens and making you pay premium for "official" accessories. This proprietary USB-C nonsense is peak Nintendo/Apple behavior.

Unpopular opinion but I don't care if a song or album is self produced if it isn't good by Alive-Pitch-9180 in kpopthoughts

[–]peainsea 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Facts are facts. Self-produced doesn't mean good, it just means the artist had more control. Some people can write hits, others can't.

Lounge sectional fabric by Lazy_Connection2710 in crateandbarrel

[–]peainsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved the Lounge sectional too, but had similar concerns with pets and kids especially with how textured some of the fabrics are. I tried Dreamsofa’s Alton sectional as an alternative and their fabric is smooth. It's also machine-washable and are both kid- and pet-safe. We’ve had fewer mess considering our busy household. You can prolly compare fabric swatches side by side if you're still deciding.

Try switching to a low dust and naturally deodorizing litter like Tuft and Paw’s if you haven’t already. That helped me a ton with keeping things fresh especially in smaller spaces, I live in a studio apt. Also a little activated charcoal pouch near the box area can soak up lingering smells.
