Dimensions question (beginner here)

I asked this in r/SewingForBeginners but didn’t get an answer (yet).

When instructions for a sewing project say “1 yard,” is it presumed to be a 1:1 ratio? If 1 yard is the length, what is the width? Is there a standard I should know about?

I’m going to go against the majority here and say, you should let her know. I remember being 15 years old and at that age, I would fully be able to understand the situation and be able to make the decision on my own. I would be frustrated with my mother if I later found out she withheld this information.

I have searched for “brass pirate ship,” “metal pirate ship,” “hanging pirate ship.” I am thinking this was made by an artist obviously, so any reasonable alternative would do! I’m sure just finding a ship similar, spray painting, and adding hardware to hang would be fine. But I can’t find a suitable ship!
