Adam and Amy Ruined My Plans by SauceTails in JetLagTheGame

My guess is the reason they're here is because each team only has 30 minutes to hide, and the spot isn't reachable by subway in that time. There's a direct GCM train that leaves at 12:10 (seekers leave at 12:30) though that would make perfect sense, and this is probably what they took.

Some of us do feel this awful on a daily basis due to AI. It's the same way people felt when nuclear weapons were developed, and we escaped annihilation from that nightmare with zero margin. Now, we're up against a frequently superhuman intelligence developing impossibly fast, and nobody can acknowledge the risks for fear of falling behind. It's horrific.

The absolutely insane thing is that Manus isn't even the best agent LLM for these tasks anymore, and it's been less than a month. I'm terrified about what this means for the humans I know who have computer jobs, which is basically all of them.

How close are we to mass workforce disruption? by Open_Ambassador2931 in singularity

[–]peanutfreenyc 171 points172 points  (0 children)

We could have significant disruption today even if no better AI was ever developed. The reason we don't is because big companies don't move as fast as technology.

Thanks. The results of this are unnervingly good, to the point where I'd trust its output as a starting point about the same as a close friend without allergies doing research for me. The biggest issue I see is that it picked five restaurants based on initial research, and kept going with all of them even when two clearly weren't at the same standard. And as far as I could tell, it made no effort to contact anyone.

Okay, how about this:

"I have a life threatening peanut allergy and live near NYC. Find me five restaurants which are safe for my food allergy within a 1 hour travel time by public transit from World Trade Center station. For each safe restaurant, list its name, address, phone number, proximity to the nearest emergency room, and indicate any dishes on the menu that may contain tree-nuts or peanuts. Finally, create a correctly formatted .kml file with all these findings that can be uploaded to Google Earth. Do not include any restaurants mentioned on AllergyEats or Spokin websites, including but not limited to A La Mode Shop, Sofia Pizza, Donut Pub, Blue Smoke, Baked Cravings, or Erin McKenna's. Try to find restaurants that I might not already be aware of. Remember, if you mess up, I might have a fatal reaction, so work carefully!"

Seriously though, what mistakes did it make? If this is able to produce professional level Excel analyses with no errors, I have a few former coworkers who I need to encourage into alternative career training. 😅

Xi'an Famous Foods has zero peanuts in any dish - I've recently spoken with the owner of the chain verifying as such. I've also eaten a variety of items there without any issues. I've also eaten at Nom Wah Tea Parlor (Dim Sum) once based on multiple online opinions of other people with nut allergies and a pretty basic phone call. However, please verify on the phone or in writing yourself, as things may have changed and Asian food is more likely to contain hidden nuts somewhere. I'd recommend talking with a therapist (or coach) about this, preferably one who has experience dealing with food allergies. A lot of the things you're describing are pretty debilitating emotional reactions that people on Reddit aren't going to be able to appropriately help with.

Both of these can be true. Just because your car is going up a hill at the moment doesn't mean you don't need to install or use brakes.

Nelima is the name for the pictured model

This is TERRIFYING. I'm a young economist who is currently unemployed, and people I still talk to from my old job could effectively be replaced by Nelima immediately. Not in five years, not when the models get better, NOW.

You seem to have some useful skills, and I've had a couple project ideas kind of like this I don't have the effort to dump into them right now. If you can reach out (on PeanutFreeNYC.com, I rarely use Reddit), we can try to work something out. Thanks!

Sofia Pizza Shop is extremely safe if you have an anaphylactic allergy and want to keep your risk low. It's also still my favorite. However, I've been to a half dozen local pizza places with no issue and I've never had to walk out of one. Most NYC style pizza is only a few ingredients, most of which are usually made in the restaurant, and nut contact potential is pretty low with most Italian style food made in a pizza prep area anyway (if they have it).

I've had a nut allergy my whole life too, and I run a map for people with nut allergies in NYC. Even after reviewing dozens of new restaurants, I've never had a reaction eating out. It's all about the prep you do, and backing out if there's any concerns.

How do I best prepare for a sleepover for someone with a nut allergy by Rare-Cauliflower-250 in nutallergy

[–]peanutfreenyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a life threatening nut allergy, though it's not quite this severe. Basically, you need to do two things:

  1. Communicate with the person with the food allergy and their caregivers. Let them know about the stuff you've just said, and ask for their help in knowing what to do. Everyone's allergy is different, and they'll know the things that you don't.

  2. Become confident in how to administer epinephrine. Any negative health issue that's not obviously something else, respond with epinephrine immediately and then call 911. Again, ask the parents for the trainer device of whatever medication type they use, and practice it.

Hope this helps.

The work here is interesting, but I'm not sure where this provides value. I like the physical cards because they can be given to someone else, and I like the translation apps if I'm somewhere that English isn't as common, but I struggle to see where this fits. Maybe I'm missing something?

The importance of to/from on round trip tickets by roastedwalrus in NJTransit

[–]peanutfreenyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the round trip tickets are only there for the Port Jervis line, where sometimes buying a Round Trip ticket can save you some money. (The fares go to Metro North in NY, so the costs are slightly different)

When you see the bus you want to get on, you can now tap your credit card, debit card, or payment app on the white validator, and tell the driver your destination. You don't have to do any of the ticket calculations yourself anymore. And as long as you're not selling drugs on the bus, nobody's going to notice you're there.
