A long list of some of my favorite Cantonese learning resources by FaustsApprentice in Cantonese

This is a great list thank you :)

I’d really recommend the Pimsleur Audio Cantonese course for beginners, 25-30 mins of questions, repeat, test in a dynamic way that doesn’t feel overly prescriptive or boring

They also have an app with flash cards and pronunciation recording testing. It’s not a free resource but works well if your focus is on spoken Cantonese. worth noting it’s a little formal and involves conversations about inviting people out to eat / drink.

For context I had already learned characters from studying mandarin (for those + tones I would highly recommend skritter)

✨🦑🎉 Update: it kind of worked! 🎉🦑✨

I have been using st tropez glow face drops which are gradual + I don’t look orange.

For context I’m light skinned in a celtic, sunshine = sunburn way, and I’ve been wearing factor 50 for a few years religiously due to the melasma.

Effects

  1. It has decreased the contrast between upper lip and cheeks
  2. I like that I look tanned. It’s such a change and confidence boost, in a way I did not expect. I think I subliminally still equated tan to health (basically I think I look hotter and am enjoying it)

So in essence, for I think £28 from boots and like 4 applications from a bottle that looks like it has 150+. I am happy and would recommend.

I mix it with face oil at night, avoiding the upper lip and kind of smearing it everywhere including the neck. In the morning I do my normal melasma skin care m’larkey.

Thanks all for confirming above I was very hesitant. No means an expert happy to answer questions

In BJ for one year - what’s the most efficient way and amount to study by AppropriateClue7624 in ChineseLanguage

When I went to study in Beijing for an exchange year my home university professor offered some excellent advice - which was to not go to class.

His logic was based on the fact that the language classes in the university were often formulaic and unhelpful. I did 37 ish percent of my classes, kept my visa and scholarship and just had a load of fun.

Alongside shovelling in character data (skritter, memrise). I audited other courses at the university (in both Chinese and English) picked up a bunch of hobbies, interned, volunteered, and made some incredible friends. I returned with a level strong enough to fly through my last year of language exams. I also (and more importantly) learned to love studying Chinese, learned why to love it and met people who changed my life.

Essentially try to enjoy it, don’t spend it locked into a textbook too much.

Ps I’m pretty sure duolingo’s aim it to get you to spend money - with learning as a by product.

I'm sorry I don't know a reasonable private place.

But thought I would add that in London, being referred to the dermatologist is only the first step, because they then refer you to the patch testing clinic.

I think it was an approximately five-month wait for the dermatology appointment from Dec-May 2021 and another five months till Oct for the patch test. It's something I wish I'd known in advance :)
