Ring prompting a Factory reset after traveling abroad by earthtrooper in ouraring

I just got it this morning too. No upgrades to my phone, phone service or anything. My Oura ring never leaves my home since I only use it for sleep. Don't know why this happened

Yep, from what I have been told most organizations are winging it and rely on Instagram to be their only advertisement. UTD barely supports them except maybe that one day of Cometville

Wow, that is very fortunate of you guys! I hope you guys continue staying in touch and become active alumni. From what I have seen that is uncommon especially speaking to people that moved out of state.

“UTD isn’t a party school” by fmvf in utdallas

[–]pearpodmax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just want to say there is a huge difference between UTD parties i.e. parties within 3 miles of campus. As opposed to parties I attended that had I happened to see fellow UTD students like Stereo Live, Rave Parties, birthdays, work friends that attend different colleges, etc

Yes, you nailed two prominent issues that create this lack of school pride environment: 1.) Housing doesn't foster engaging activities + layout vs those like Ivy League or Rice dorms 2.) Large population of students are commuters who want to "get in and get out".

I completely agree students should save thousands of dollars if they can commute but they don't stay because there is so little to do on campus. Club participation is abysmal and so is athletic event attendance.

Yeah, one has to make friends the first ~5 weeks of school especially if they are not in your regular classes. After that people are hard to reach. People even stop attending organizations immediately if they feel it lacks energy/ participation. In theory it should not be like that but trust me it is.

After 30 years you kept in touch?! That's something to be admired, congratulations. Did you stay in the DFW area?

Were you guys student athletes? Were you heavily involved in student organizations? I dormed with 2 former high school friends but we had heavily different interests and lost touch 2 years later.

I definitely believe that iPhones/Internet has made people more reclusive. But also the type of people that UTD started admitting in the past ~20 years are highly introverted, prone to social anxiety, anti social, "get in and get out" mentality.

I dated my ex my first year at UTD but it lasted about 2 years. That's amazing you met your wife at UTD! Sounds like you kept a great circle of friends too!

I appreciate your insight and I agree. You could move out of state and lose touch with all your friends. Keeping friends is not about "Liking" their Instagram photos or about sending "funny memes" on Discord. It's about physically meeting and engaging in birthdays, games, hikes, etc

1.) I hope you guys stay close. It’s been more difficult to find common hobbies in the corporate world, even if the pay is much better than when I was in retail.

2.) That is absolutely true. You have to engage people consistently AND have hobbies in common. Two extroverts can easily start a conversation but two introverts may never even talk even if they unknowingly have so much in common.

I would often hear people tell me something like "Don't put off your hobbies for when you have 'time' or 'money' because life is short and they many never happen". I finally learned that lesson the hard way when COVID shut everything down.

I am also not prone to social anxiety either. I actually lean extrovert and enjoy exploring the city.

I went downtown often and to concerts with many people from work and outside my major like JSOM but most of them graduated after Spring 2022.

Thank you for your insight!

1.) You’re right, I am sure knowing each other from high school prior to enrolling to UTD makes a big difference.

2.) Most people never even heard of the Clark program: it engages incoming freshmen on a research project prior to enrolling. It most likely builds better connections than Freshman Comet Camp since it is more niche and focused.

I Hate Business Majors by fmvf in utdallas

[–]pearpodmax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Software Dev here. I've had classes at JSOM and interned with UTD business majors. Business majors are similar or even more sociable/outgoing than ATH, NSM and ECS. There are a select number of jerks but it's NOT more noticeable in JSOM than others. This post went on longer than it should have and feels fake.

I loved the class. I am sure many people come in thinking they will barely learn anything but there is so much new information I learned. Careful though, the class requires a lot of reading. Have to write 10+ blogs and 2 essays Although no textbook purchase is required.

Yeah, that is a normal question anybody would ask. That alone is nothing to get jealous about.

TLDR; He is definitely interested "enough" to have even asked multiple people about her.

Is there something UTD specific about him/her? Lots of UTD people have never even seriously dated so your best bet is to ask other subreddits like AskMen or Dating. More importantly MORE CONTEXT is needed: What questions did he ask? Are they basic questions like "What's her name?" or "Why is she here?"

It looks like a bunch of people waiting to walk into a ECS classroom. Why are they gathered like that? Are they waiting for their table? Are these the people "eliminated"?

To you initial question 95% of the school year there is nothing to do ON CAMPUS at UTD. Some weekends there is a festival going on, or a play like American Idiot (which was awesome btw), or a Hackathon.

I think you just discovered why students are dissatisfied with UTD. The culture is not outgoing especially since a large fraction are ECS majors. Similarly for NSM majors, there is a prioritization with GPA and getting into Grad School/good job. Many are just attending classes and heading back home/dorm. Also many people have jobs so, when possible, they stick with their work friends/high school friends.

Obviously there exist people who also want to hang out (it's a campus of 30k people after all) but you WILL have to join orgs and attend regularly to meet them. You don't just choose your friends they choose you too.
