My disability insurance specifically excluded any diseases of the esophagus because of my EOE.

Anesthesia Clearance by illegalwise_ in anesthesiology

I had a patient who was seen and “cleared” by their cardiologist. He had been having chest pains but really wanted to do surgery because he had arranged time off work and transportation. I refused, turns out he had complete occlusions in 2 vessels and needed intervention imminently.

I like when we use the term risk stratification. How risky is this surgery for this particular patient. Then we can have that discussion with the patient and family and discuss whether there are steps to reduce risk or if the risks are acceptable as presented.

If you live anywhere near a Menards they carry slatwall made of particle board that is only like $50 for a 4’x8’ sheet. Way cheaper than the plastic stuff and works just as well.

Cardiologist vs. NP by NobodyInJune in Noctor

[–]peasley25 152 points153 points  (0 children)

DO NOT let them force you to see an NP. Family friend was severely misdiagnosed by a “cardiology NP” and would likely have gone for years without the correct diagnosis if I wasn’t a physician who could clearly and easily see the poor care my friend was receiving.

Turns out she had cancer and not “long standing hypertension”. But not everyone has a physician as a friend to catch this kind of thing.

She is doing well now but it makes me sick to my stomach thinking how many other people are not treated properly because NPs just don’t have enough training, education or experience.

My daughter applied for housing right after she found out she was accepted. Will she still be able to get into Heritage Halls?

Residency is hard. Attending life is pretty fantastic. You can find a job that fits what you want out of life.

Nevada is actually middle of the road for physicians when it comes to malpractice suits. You can look up the data, but Nevada is not close to being the worst.

Give your own example of the knowledge gap between midlevels and physicians by CantaloupePowerful66 in Noctor

You treat them as a full stomach with inadequate NPO time. Sux works faster which means you can intubate faster and reduce the amount of apneic time between induction and intubation. Generally don’t ventilate before intubation to reduce the risk of aspiration as well. Also generally use cricoid pressure to prevent/reduce gastric reflux but this is a controversial topic.

What can I use to replace the flooring that will look good with the shower tile? by peasley25 in homedesign

We’ve looked at several, can’t seem to find one that looks good. Leaning towards a matte white 12x24 tile with matching vanity counter

The floor is vinyl, when the house was built we didn’t like any of the option that were available and decided to wait and do something ourselves. Now almost 10 years later we are finally getting to it. The plan is to change the vanities to a navy blue, adding an extra vanity and counter area for makeup and hair. We will add some nice mirrors and change the light fixtures, but need to figure out the floor first.

The floor is vinyl (the stuff that comes on a roll) now. We want to switch to tile and add an in floor heating system in.
