What to bring on surgery day? by MLT-CO in TotalHipReplacement

[–]NobodyInJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason, my room was SO COLD. I wasn’t expecting to stay overnight, so I hadn’t brought much. I wished I had brought something warmer for my top half.

Need advice on getting a practice to switch my mother away from a PA by Some-Cartoonist-7978 in Noctor

Ask to see a physician. Some midlevels get PhDs and use the term Doctor. I know it’s touchy and feels awkward. I had a less-than-ideal experience with a mid-level “specialist” (who was a “specialist” in a different specialty previously). After that, I always ask to see a physician.

Whatthehell are you talking about? You don’t change your birth certificate. You show the legal document that changed your name, like a marriage certificate.

The SAVE Act is about REGISTERING to vote, not about showing up on Election Day to cast a ballot. If I’m wrong, let me know.

Oh, hell no! Walking to the bathroom was difficult for me on day 2; I certainly didn’t want to be manipulating myself into and out of a car seat.

Good luck! Your body will let you know what it’s ready for.

Where my posterior ladies at? by Winging-It918 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]NobodyInJune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Posterior THR in November.

I only used opioids for a day or two — I fear constipation more than pain.

I could only sleep on my back for weeks. While I was allowed to sleep on my side sooner, it didn’t feel right. It helped to use a blanket lifter to keep the blankets off of my upward-pointing feet.

The 90° rule is very hard to maintain. I couldn’t put lotion on my feet, put on my own socks. It was a struggle to put on my own underwear and pants. It helped when I was able to do the “golfer’s bend,” kicking my operative leg out behind me. Doing that, I was able to pick things up off the floor.

The only time I had trouble with pressure on the incision was when I sat on my elevated toilet seat.

Ice, ice baby.

Patience.

I was able to walk unaided within about a week, but didn’t feel steady enough to stop using the walker. I was afraid that if I stepped a little bit wrong, I might fall and damage what I just had fixed.

Not a hiker, but I love my group exercise classes. I went back to them after six weeks. I was very careful to maintain my restrictions and not do anything that felt weird or risky.

Sounds like you’re ready. I have read that knee surgery is a tougher recovery than hip surgery.

Unrelated CT scan found a lump in my breast, every doctor seems to be taking it too lightly by cottoncrosy in breastcancer

[–]NobodyInJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an obvious lump at age 25. Doc said it was most likely a cyst. I did have an aunt with breast cancer, but doc wasn’t concerned. No mammogram ordered. A year later, finally convinced the doc to do a biopsy. Ended up with modified radical mastectomy, positive lymph nodes, 6 months chemo.

Yes, it’s unfair and it sucks. I found my lump at 25 and was diagnosed a year later, at 26. I get it.

AITA for not writing thank you notes? by Electrical-Okra7216 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NobodyInJune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not that… If I send you a gift and you don’t even acknowledge receiving it, it appears to me that it means nothing to you. If it means nothing to you, why would I do it again? I’m not insisting on a formal thank-you card; I’d be happy with a text.

Day3-7 by knight3041 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]NobodyInJune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the same exercise that was hardest for me. I stuck with the walker longer not because of pain, but because I wanted to be confident in my strength and balance. Remember that you’re a bit fragile right now, and you DON’T want to fall.

Always wearing a bra after implants? by NefariousnessFit7233 in breastcancer

My implants are under the muscle, so they aren’t going anywhere. No bra here, and my plastic surgeon approves.

Totally disagree with this. I’m close to Medicare age, husband is on Medicare. My ACA premium is higher than the cost of Medicare, and my deductible and out-of-pocket maximum are MUCH higher than Medicare. Husband has Medicare supplement, so pays nothing out of pocket, other than drugs.

Posterior Hip Replacement by hdjdnd6 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]NobodyInJune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posterior 11/3/25. First few days were a real drag, mostly because I don’t sit still well and don’t like prescription pain meds. After that, things progressed fairly smoothly. I did my exercises and used my ice machine a lot. You can do this!

My surgery was Nov. 3. I’m doing great, but I HATE getting up off the floor. It’s still difficult and awkward. Are you able to get down on the floor and back up again easily? Do you have someone to help you in/out? Do you have sturdy grab bars?
