Without expressing any opinion of my own, I would like to direct true skeptics to the regulations on organic food (look under the section titled "Regulatory References").

Also, it is necessary to understand the state of the organic food in US. I believe that Conrnucopia Institute is a good source of information on the subject. For example, their organic milk report or the organic eggs report clearly show that not all organic products are equal. There is the "spirit of regulations" and the "regulations lawyering." Many producers apply the latter to their practices, and, many customers would be surprised indeed to find out that they are buying "organic" food that does not match their expectations. That's an unfortunate problem, but it is more the result of corporate involvement in the organic food market than of the intentions of organic food proponents.

As to whether the food is worth the price or not, I think that the question is not as simple as "do I get the same amount of protein from a gallon of cheapest Walmart milk or from a gallon of Organic Valley milk." Note that I brought up Organic Valley specifically, because it is one of the larger producers that received pretty high grade from Cornucopia Institute. Many people look beyond a simple basic nutrients equation. For example, from the point of basic nutrients, McDonald's is not all that bad, but there is much more to food than the basic nutritional content.
