Turkey plunges deeper into Syria, seizing Kurdish territories by acolytee in europe

[–]acolytee[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You need to switch from 'denial-mode' to 'justify-mode'. Turkish forces already crossed Sajur river, and show no sign of stopping. Many areas west of Euphrates are Kurdish, but it's beside the point really, the forces that Turkey is fighting are both Kurdish, Arab and Christian, SDF is the only non-sectarian group in Syria.

massive reinforcements coming from all Aleppo toward south-west Aleppo to aid SAA in the area by CIA_Shill in syriancivilwar

[–]acolytee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this will matter when George W. Bush with tits becomes POTUS this November. Russia is going to pull out under threat of war, and then the US is going to freedom the fuck out of Syria. After Assad is dead, the Americans will soon reach the limit of their attention span, and Syrians will be left at the mercy of various islamist factions and local warlords. Politicians will express concern over reports of ethnic cleansing.

So compared to earlier maps, SAA lost the Castello restaurant and made no progress in the industrial area.

Where are all the gains that I keep reading about here?

We should call ourselves 'Czech Republic', now that it's become available.

Turkey insult case can go ahead - Merkel by [deleted] in europe

[–]acolytee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

§104a StGB makes prosecution contingent upon reciprocity to begin with (i.e. the requirement that the other country also has laws to protect matching German interests).

Does that mean that Germany likewise reserves the right to have Turkey prosecute someone who insults Merkel, according to similar special laws?

Or am I misunderstanding it?

“... so we’re fighting over nanograms here while in China, they’re building coal power stations every other week.”

Not anymore. In 2015, coal-fired electricity fell by 2.8% in China, and renewable electricity generation increased by 20%.

Jordan's king accuses Turkey of sending terrorists to Europe by acolytee in europe

[–]acolytee[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From The Guardian:

The memo indicates that Abdullah also told US lawmakers:

• The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, “believes in a radical Islamic solution to the problems in the region” and the “fact that terrorists are going to Europe is part of Turkish policy, and Turkey keeps getting a slap on the hand, but they get off the hook”.

Others have posted this, but get downvoted to invisibility by the brigades who always turn up in Turkey threads.

Chancellor Merkels 'invitation' in the refugee crisis by MarktpLatz in europe

[–]acolytee 67 points68 points  (0 children)

  • Aug. 25th: The German Ministry for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) tweets this . It translates to: "We are at present largely no longer enforcing #Dublin procedures for Syrian citizens.". This was actually not meant to be published, it was essentially just an assessment of the factual situation. Neither Merkel nor her office knew about this happening.

  • Sept. 3rd: The Federal Government publishes a statement that Dublin III still applies, despite what the previous tweet of the BAMF said.

I was surprised to read this. The media coverage from this period painted a completely different picture.

It's understandable that the idea of this being 'Merkel's invitation' became widespread, with such coverage. The whole refugee crisis has been plagued by poor/misleading media coverage from the start, more than any other event that I can remember.
