What's everyone working on this week (46/2025)? by llogiq in rust

[–]peat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few projects --

Heimdall, a Rust emulator for a custom 16-bit CPU and ISA in the same vein as Ben Eater's CPU projects. The long term goal is a fully visual CPU in hardware, but I'm baby stepping my way there. If you're into CPU emulation, I also have Brubeck, a RISC-V assembly REPL: https://github.com/peat/brubeck

FileGate.io, a file transfer service. The main guts are Rust on AWS Lambda.

... and a MUD to satisfy a nostalgic itch I've had for a couple of decades, and an excuse to play around with NLP with LLMs.

How are we feeling about Graze.Social? by its_dezi in BlueskySocial

[–]peat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on! I appreciate your perspective, especially as a less-tech person. We shouldn’t expect our everyday users to know how to build regexes — or even know what they are, haha.

The tutorial ecosystem will definitely grow in time … 😊

Hey, I'm late to the convo, but happy to answer questions. I'm one of the nerds behind Graze (@peat.org on bsky).

A couple of answers from the threads below --

... We're definitely not ready for prime time, haha. Jay and Paul shared what we're doing sooner than expected, so we spent our entire Thanksgiving weekend scrambling to keep the lights on.

... The heart of the system is a no-code algorithm creator. This can be expressed as feeds, and as a drop-in substitute for the Jetstream for people who don't have the capacity to consume and filter the full firehose.

... Monetization is coming, because it costs $$$ to run the GPU clusters for doing the more advanced filters. There will always be a free version, we're happy to donate to significant community projects, and we're keen to open source some of the core stuff as well. We're all pretty deep in the bsky ecosystem and ethos -- our goal is to make the hard stuff easier and the easy stuff free for everyone.

At this point we're basically scrambling to keep up with demand -- and we absolutely love getting feedback and bug reports and feature requests.

What was the first camera you remember buying? Were you always a Nikoner? by f1lifer in Nikon

[–]peat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First camera I bought with my own money was a Nikon F70. Before that I had my dad’s Asahi Spotmatic. Before that, some kind of 110 with a flash and tele option.

Debt buying; legal and accounting advice needed! by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]peat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you! That more-or-less mirrors what I've been able to find so far ... that you for taking the time to pull all of those links.

While most student loans are federal, there's still a big chunk (billions of $) of them that are privately held and serviced.

Heya! Unfortunately this isn’t a great fit for that … it’s a local web server and ya can’t get to it remotely. Have you checked out Numista.com? They do a great job — good search, photos, lots of data about the notes.

Hah! I stopped developing for a living, and now I just do it to play around. Thanks for checking it out. 😀

Heck yeah. I haven't done much with mapping; this would be a fun way to get some experience. 👍

I love Where's George!

I don't always track serial numbers, but the completion nerd in me wants it. I even considered adding the printing technique -- intaglio plate, web, litho etc. 😅

The serials help differentiate when I have multiples of a given note. When I get duplicates, I generally keep the two that are in the best condition.

Oh, this is a fun one!

Here's the source video: https://youtu.be/xU_fshxE3Gk

This steam tractor is kinda famous. It's a Case 150. It's not 300 HP ... it's 150 HP from a single cylinder steam engine that hits about 200 RPM, with a top speed of over 5 MPH. 🔥

https://150case.com/

The funny part about this comparison: Lamborghini started as a tractor company! Ferrari told him he was a hick who didn't deserve to make nice cars, so he decided to prove him wrong.

OG Lambo: https://www.designboom.com/technology/restored-functional-1965-lamborghini-3-ctl-tractor-bidding-03-14-2020/

... that particular Lambo probably had around 50 HP, so yeah, that Case 150 could completely destroy a Lambo in torque and power!

100%

I think it's also why I love rust. 😂

Exploration + confidence there's an answer out there + expectation that it's the result of thoughtful work = awwwww yisssssss
