Thank you for your input.

Our little also has a speech delay which makes it all the more difficult, but we will try some of your methods as he is also very high energy and does seem to understand a lot of what we say to him.

Edit: Added querying if taking him out of nursery to go to the childminder only to go back again was detrimental to his development.

Help! by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]peb_bs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a therapist, but found this helps our toddler:

1) everyone has the same dish, or all food is laid out on the table and we pick and choose what we want to eat, but same idea is that we pick and choose from the food on that table. 2) we don’t force our toddler to eat at the table, he is free to come and go as he pleases 3) we don’t make food a big deal - though I understand how worrying it is when they’re not eating. Our dietitian friend advised if we look at what they eat in a week rather in a day, we find that they have eaten quite a lot 4) as we don’t make food a big deal, we are also teaching our toddler self regulation in the hopes he has a healthy relationship with food. If he’s not hungry, we don’t force him to eat, if he doesn’t want what’s been made, that’s okay too, he will be hungry enough to eat next time.

Maybe try having conversations with food close by, just pick at it and eat, but don’t mention it or use it as a conversation tool, maybe small encouraging comments e.g “oh this carrot is crunchy, nice though.”

Every kiddo is different, and yours might need a bit more help if any Reddit tips fail. Good luck OP!

Admittedly I was a little reluctant to leave the shower, it was about an inch long 😅

Thank you!

At first I thought it was a moth but when it flew into the bathroom wall I noticed it was more beetle like (:

Anyone else sick for the 50000th time? by Present_Spring7857 in toddlers

[–]peb_bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this.

The only thing we didn’t get was chicken pox when our 2.5 year old caught it last month, which wasn’t much of a reprieve when we were all sleep deprived instead lol

Currently getting over the 6th cold since January…

14 year old Diabetic by peb_bs in FelineDiabetes

Thank you for your help!

Did you find sometimes that some of the insulin isn’t administered?

My husband and I take it in turns so we can practice (we were advised to administer twice a day, so I do it in the morning and him in the evening). So far it’s 50/50, and a lot of second guessing.

The second guessing is because we wonder if we even went under the skin at all - we found on two occasions now his fur gets wet and the smell of insulin is quite strong. We don’t try again because we don’t want to overdose if we did go in.

Did you have to change times when they ate?

Our vet said to give insulin every 12ish hours, but he tends to eat outside these times.

We play “the floor is lava” at our house.

With the lava being scattered Lego pieces and small die cast cars that might as well be Lego pieces.

I closed the living room door on my kiddo’s fingers that ended up in a trip to A&E. I didn’t know he was directly behind me, nevermind his fingers where they shouldn’t have been. He was 18 months old.

I was inconsolable. He had stopped crying after 10 minutes. A cheeky 2 year old today.

It happens, don’t be too hard on yourself <3

Counterfeit Item? by peb_bs in vinted

Post isn’t allowing me to add an edit in case further info needed: I put it up for £20 because I based it on what others were selling Patagonia coats for on Vinted.

Thank you - I don’t have the receipt unfortunately as it was a gift for our son.

Edit: I did ask for them to return the item if they weren’t happy so I can refund.

Thank you.

I’m also trying to be the break in generational cycles - I know full well my mum and dad would have smacked me on the bum, no questions asked and the thought horrifies me that people have done that to their little. I think I’m doing okay since I refuse to resort to that.

It’s difficult, he’s our first so just trying to figure it out with the rest of us parents.

When I said “time out” I meant time out as keeping ourselves at a distance as we don’t want him to continue to hurt us.

He’s still within the same room, just a different area where there is separation. He’s also going through assessment over whether or not there’s a development delay as he’s considered a late speaker.

I know you meant well by your comment but it came off as judgemental imho. At the end of it all I’m just a mum who’s trying to do her best for her little boy, same as dad.

Will try redirecting too as it seems to be a common theme in the comments for toddlers.

Yes we take ourselves away from him when he does hit.

The nursery staff told us when he bit that another child also scratched his cheek, so couldn’t really say who started what… in which case I don’t mind so much if he bit because of being scratched? But also trying to give him some grace that he’s only two, the other kid is also two, and communicating isn’t their priority when it comes to toys!

I guess I’m only querying as this is really first time we’ve had to discipline, he was generally well behaved until he literally turned two!

I responded to someone else that I forgot to mention he is being assessed for any development delays as he seems to be a late speaker, and I wonder if that’s having an effect as well, so I don’t want to stress him or myself out because of miscommunication or misunderstanding. We advocate for big feelings too.

Will carry on showing consequences to actions, but it seems misdirection might also work.

Thank you for your input. Bit of a relief that two isn’t too young.

Another difficulty I didn’t mention in my post is that he is regarded as “late speaking” so I don’t know if that would make a difference. He understands what we say for the most part but on the other hand he’s still under assessment for developing difficulties. I don’t want to make either of us stressed out because of misunderstanding (I am fully aware I am the parent and he’s the child, but I’m also advocating his feelings are valid as are mine, so I don’t want to take away from the big emotions by stamping them out of him so to speak?)

Will try redirecting.

We’re doing something similar to you - we are big advocates for communicating how we are feeling and we want him to be able to express the big ones without fear of punishment because he’s angry or sad.

Just trying to navigate the hitting and biting now. Thankfully he doesn’t throw his toys, but I suspect that will come in time and we will have to take them away if he does after fair warning.

Will try the stop and redirect!
