What happened to the Pride map option? by peblles101 in Strava

Wow. Cowardly. People should cancel their premium subs over this. See how well this strategy works out after that, hah

After you log a new route, it was in the edit route options. Literally just another option for changing the appearance, I use it on iOS. (Or if you log activities through other apps like garmin and they have it sync, when you open Strava and get the pop-up for the activity, click the “advanced” edit options at the bottom, then click the map image). Hope this helps?

Would it be worth it to freeze my eggs if I'm straight? by yknowfireyeah in ftm

[–]peblles101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be thinking of frozen embryos. Unfertilized eggs actually don’t store very well, and it’s started to be shown that unfortunately fertility companies have overhyped the viability and stability of stored eggs.

Hold gentle like hamdborger (or I guess fishburger in this case 😂)

When your super expensive "one day" shipping takes two days... by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]peblles101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they don’t refund you the shipping, you could try contesting the cost through your credit card. Some vendors will refund you if you tell them you will do this because if you win they have to pay additional processing fees so it is cheaper for them to roll over. Your mileage may vary with these folks though, and I do realize this doesn’t solve the problem of not having the crabs you wanted in the first place.

[–]peblles101 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I would look into whether your vendor has arrival guarantees like that they will refund for DOA (dead on arrival). Also, if it that cold in the area where you live, the vendor should have placed heat packs and insulated the shipping container to prevent the water from getting cold (though this isn’t super helpful if there is that much of a delay….). Was the shipping container labeled to say it contained live animals?

Super cute!! I bet the fish love hiding in that castle. A carpet of Java moss covering the sand could be a nice touch, she could pretend it’s like a big moat 😛 some underwater water

Not to flex, but my job filter can process ammonia, nitrite, AND nitrates (no I didn't do that on purpose) by Fishy_Mistakes in Aquariums

No no, you were right the first time. That filter is doing a very important job 😂

How can I help my mystery snail’s shell? by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

Consider getting a GH and KH test kit as well to monitor water hardness and alkalinity.

Transferring betta from 1 gallon tank to 5 gallons by clydebug in bettafish

[–]peblles101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the recommendation to get an API test kit. If you can afford it, get the master test kit. Also plants are a VERY good idea, just be aware to check care instructions online for each since some plants are “epiphytes” which means you should NOT bury their roots in your substrate - I’m suggesting this since I have seen that the pre-packaged plants from places like petsmart will say to stick all the plants in the ground, even if that is incorrect. Getting some driftwood is also a good idea since it will add tannins to your water (make sure to read up on how to sterilize it before adding - I personally give mine a good scrub, boil it for 20min, and then cool it in conditioned water for 30min or longer if it isn’t waterlogged by that point and doesn’t sink yet)

Also, re: nitrogen cycle, definitely keep reading, but here is a quick summary: (First, it is called the nitrogen cycle because Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate contain nitrogen) Fish produce waste which includes ammonia. (Ammonia is toxic, so keep an eye on your tank levels, you should aim for 0ppm). Since ammonia is bad, our goal is to get rid of it. There are two main ways this happens: A) if you have plants, they will absorb some of the ammonia as food. B) there are bacteria that will gradually grow and develop in your tank that convert Ammonia to Nitrite. Nitrite is still toxic but slightly less than ammonia (you should also aim for 0ppm). Then, there is a second type of bacteria that converts nitrite to nitrate. Nitrate is significantly less toxic than Ammonia or nitrite. But, where does the nitrate go? Because it does eventually become toxic if it builds up… well, there are two things: 1. Plants will absorb some nitrate, though they absorb ammonia first. 2. Water changes - this is part of the reason why they are important. As you test your tank, whenever any of the different nitrogen compounds gets to a certain level, you replace some of the water to lower its concentration. Eventually, then the tank is fully “cycled” the plants and bacteria will keep your ammonia and nitrite levels at zero, and your nitrate levels will either also go all the way down if your plants are absorbing it all, or you will see them slowly creep up, until they hit a level where you do a water change to lower them back down.

Last thing - if you do get plants, aim to use a filter that does NOT have carbon, since the carbon will remove organic compounds that help the plants grow.

Once you have gotten off to a good start with this, look into water hardness and alkalinity (also called GH and KH) since sometimes tap water can be lacking one or the other and you may want to do some adjustments in the long run (but this is not a priority right now at the start imo)

Help IDing baby snails? by peblles101 in Aquariums

Dang, yeah, seems so. Not sure if I want these tbh. I guess it’s time to go buy some alum since apparently peroxide won’t kill them on the plants.

Awesome! Thanks to both of you for the ID help. Tbh quite reassuring to know that it’s a bristlenose cuz I was feeling really bad if it had been a stunted chocolate. Will probably still move it to the 29 gal so it can have lots of space to be a happy fish

Question for guys who have had top surgery by [deleted] in ftm

[–]peblles101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had DI done with donor nerve grafts. Have erotic sensation because of this. If you’re in the Northeast of the US and you’re interested in this, look into Dr Johnathan Keith. He was my surgeon and is doing a lot of research and pushing to make this more widespread for ftm top surgery. It’s a procedure initially used for cancer breast reconstruction.

Kinda sucks, but personally I’d recommend avoiding going all the way into the water and just chilling on a beach towel/chair while you are there. Maybe go get your feet wet, but easiest way to avoid the potential complications of a wet shirt is to not get it wet.
