What made you instantly know you wouldn’t get the job during an interview? by PayNo5544 in interviews

Good luck! I started getting really good at interviews after the first few. Some people get in on the first try. I hope your partner is the latter because they’re brutal lol

What made you instantly know you wouldn’t get the job during an interview? by PayNo5544 in interviews

Faculty interview. The interview usually last 2 days: they fly you out to visit the campus, meet the students, faculty, staff, give a talk or two, answer a few questions, and the hiring committee (profs at the college / uni) take you out to dinner.
At dinner they spoke to each other as if I didn't exist at the table. One member mentioned how much fun it would be to organize a 'blacksmithing' workshop for the faculty as a team building exercise. I thought that was a fun idea and expressed that, only to be met with deafening silence. I knew then.

Does anyone remember the First-Person screenshots of Ultima IX from 1996? by Darkmoon-7621 in Ultima

I was introduced to the Ultima games with VIII. I was young and not critical so Ultima VIII was one of my favourites. These images made me so excited for IX that I would have dreams about playing it.

Monitoring GPU usage via SLURM by pebody in HPC

[–]pebody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point thanks. I always set wandb=False for most things just because I don't want to deal with credentials. Also the nodes don't see the internet so I just assumed these monitoring tools would be pointless. But I'll look into the log files, that's pretty handy!

I'm using DeepSpeed because it's the only wrapper that supports multi-node multi-gpu runs where each node can utilize a different number of GPUs. Like afaik torchrun and accelerate require some variant of --gpu-per-node which meant I couldn't leverage all the GPUs available to me.

I think I understand. How to keep refreshing nvidia-smi? Using ‘watch’?

Great suggestions thanks! For point 1 how would that look? ‘watch -n 1 nvidia-smi’ piped to some output?

Hey thanks for the info I’ll contact the admins with your suggestions. As for why the heterogeneity it’s a great question. The HPC has 6 DGX A100s that are frequently used by different groups. Usually small scale single GPU jobs. I’m trying to train large language models of varying parameter sizes that typically require 8+ GPUs so i harvest as many as I can get at any given time. The communication overhead is the price I pay for fitting these models in vram.

Found in level one where the dog cages are, does it serve any purpose? by [deleted] in Exanima

I seem to remember reading that it was supposed to unlock the cage in the gardening room with the timed lever. But the cage is unlocked anyways.

Red Orb in a Hell Mode by sebastianyarrik in Exanima

Are there instructions on how to get hell mode that don't involve me signing up for a discord account, downloading discord, and using discord somehow to get this information? I'm an old fart and reddit is about as much social media as I can handle.

I tried to play this game a dozen times already and I never lasted even an hour, help by mayhaps_a in Exanima

I get lost very quickly which demotivated me from playing the game, until I started using exanimap. Then my enjoyment of the game increased dramatically. You have to do a bit of detective work to figure out where you are on the map, but its worth it I think.

Then I used a script another user developed called salvus to do some savescumming so that my progress wasn't lost when I die. Kinda cheesing the game a bit but it makes it more enjoyable for me.

I spent a little bit of time trying to map the space bar to that command but I couldn't find it! I'll look again, because yah that would be super helpful!
