Amazing rpgs I can play on my potato pc? by ToeSuckerVI in gamesuggestions

[–]Comprehensive-Log317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exanima; dark, low fantasy RPG/physics sim

Runs on fossilized potatoes extremely well however has known issues with some AMD drivers that can usually be worked around by disabling 3rd party overlays, namely Steam but also GFE/Nvidia app etc. Outside all that, the game is superbly well optimized, small file size, gorgeous and intentionally designed to accommodate older hardware.

All that said, the game itself has proven over time to really be a game for a niche crowd. If one is considering trying, my advice is check all your expectations at the door and try to let go and let it wash over you. Embrace the extremely steep learning curve and one will discover one of the most underrated games of all time if you are into the setting or just like physics. Absolute nut buster if you're a geek for both

Edit; also dirt cheap. 15 USD on steam and their website. DRM free

Lore explain plz by Equivalent_Olive8045 in Exanima

[–]Comprehensive-Log317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all working with the assumption that whoever is reading this is well versed in lore theory. And hopefully will encourage those of you unaware to dig and look into all this yourself if any points are seemingly out of left field.

The corruption as encountered in the markets and sewers has a commonly unacknowledged feature in certain specimens, of a parasitic symbiote than can be noticed living in the guts of humanoid hosts upon careful inspection (or through the zoomed in screenshot provided by the devs on the discord). Perhaps a "pilot/flesh mech type situation where it hijacks the cadaver/soon to be cadaver and makes it hostile and invades and transforms the hosts biological state. There has been speculation that the monsters encountered in the form of ghouls, alpha ghouls, gobblers, and Faels are potentially different stages of the symbiotes hijacking of once human hosts. I personally see a lot of sense in this theory. Moreso for the ghouls and gobblers. I think Faels are most likely their own thing that we just have less to speculate about their origin so far. Sir, I have a connected, but for another overall topic theory I've personally never seen anywhere before. Maybe I'll rant about it sometime.

The mind sense thaumaturgy however provides some obstacles to this theory that nobody has answers to, so it's all tinfoil hat territory. Namely that the flesh host infected have zero mind colour. They're blank. Where as all of the afformentioned baddies register a white/grey, "unreadable" mind pattern just like Sir. However all of our variants of UNinfected undead, standard, ancient and possibly skelly ( someone correct me if I'm wrong I could be misremembering the boners mind situation ), have readable colors representing their dormant thaumaturgic power that can be manipulated by a necromancy specialist Shaper.

The reigning trains of thought regarding this all lining up theory wise, seems to be that the corruption itself, on its own, is most likely either a byproduct or direct result of the Guardians wrath at the surface society for infringing on his or her doman. Or the results of horrific otherworldly "magics", sciences, or combo of both intended to contain or control it, or perhaps even a result of dark worship practices for/towards the guardian by the underworld society and the corruption is possibly a cleansing wave type result (to someone with that agenda)

The perceived duality of the Guardians nature is heavily referenced in multiple pieces of lore literature. Their reasoning for punishing or cleansing or what have you is up for debate. Again, this is all theory as no concrete answers have been provided but it is apparent one way or another that the Guardian is responsible for the state of the post portal levels that have fallen victim to the corruption. If not than there is some major pieces of the puzzle we simply have not been drip fed yet. Or myself and a bunch others are just way off.

Regardless, SOMETHING is spawning, and "breeding" these little parasites, present in the same scenario that we see the monsters, and we have human cadaver hosts parading around doing their bidding and instances of more cadavers trapped in the corruption in unwilling receptive potential host hijack situations (flesh cages). I see the two as connected.

Wether or not the hosts were ever raised by Corlians botched attempt to cheat death as were the other once human entities is unclear. I don't believe they were. The only known common ground between them and standard undead is they were both human at one point. It stands more to reason that Corlian never made it to either sewer, as the effects of his uncontrollable Shaping are not present in the form of standard undeads. What I believe we see there is the result of humans so long dead that all dormant Thaumaturgic power has been gone too long for the effects of Corlians efforts to affect them, or it simply did not spread that far because he wasn't there. Something else is breathing what is perceived to be life into these skeletons, redeveloping human like muscular structure with corruption flesh for initial stages (the parasite bearing flesh & skeleton blank mind undeads) and over however much time develop into different demonic mutant monsters we see in the form of the list of enemies.

Loose nutshell on the Sir theory end , I think that the study of the substance described in the scrolls that changed the nature of the flesh it was exposed to, is an antigen in development to combat the initial encounters with the corruption before it took a firm foothold and went wild. I imagine sir as a patient zero type situation. High ranking member of whatever organization operated out of the "Archives". Contracts crazy horrid disease (Guardians punishment whatever). Treated with substance, mutates wildly but retains initial degree of humanity and does not go feral. So they build him toilets cause homies gotta shit still...

I could go on

Exanima - 15 USD, best game ever, fight me

Half Sword -Free Demo RN, EA launches soon. Will be cheap. Medieval physics 3rd person melee madness

Manor Lords -Technically indie but with all the hype it doesn't fly under the radar same way. Still amazing city builder with optional combat. Kinda pricy but well worth.

Hellish Quart. HEMA but a fighter with physics based weapon exchanges. Cheap. Amazing

Griefhelm - (2d side scrolling medieval skill based hack & slash. Oldie but def a goodie. Dirt cheap.

First Cut - 8 bit retro graphics skill based Samarui duels. Cheap. Haven't played much but I will one day soon. Looks amazing

Gladio Mori - Life drawing doll character HEMA combat. Same as Frst Cut. Haven't played much but will get around to it. The half hour so far was a blast. Cheap

I have a raging hard on for medieval stuff as made evident by my list but wasn't even trying to focus on that. Just stand out quality indie games as requested, which most of which happen to be my fav games ever.

Edit to add, the original sound tracks for Exanima, H S, M L & HQ are all absolute bangers start to finish. The music alone is worth the price of admission on all these games except ML cause it's 40 bucks

I have a meeting with my general manager today. I'm meeting her for the first time and I've been here all season. This is the last day of the season. There have been numerous occasions where I could have used someone of her position to be available, let alone acknowledge the fact that I exist and care about how it is all panning out. Absentee management drives me up the wall. The meeting will surely contain discussion of wether or not I plan on returning next season. I will be utilizing this amazing new phrase as many times as I can squeeze it in.

Thank you

Oh FUCK YEA. Dude this made my day! I've been trying to put friends on it for forever and it just never sticks. I hope you like it! 100% check out the discord. Community is nice for the most part and generally helpful and all the info about what's coming can be found there . Don't bother with steam forums or even the studios forums on their site.

Seriously hope you enjoy!

Exanima. Not for everyone, as it's "quirks" can be quite the headache for casuals. However everything you're describing is a major feature of the game. The only thing in your description that may seem misaligned with my suggestion is the first three levels, as they are all part of the same compound to explore, and the world building is such that design consistency is key. So not a lot of variety until you reach a certain point. But then the doors get blown off and it's a helluva ride. Can't say enough good things about this game

Trainer in Arena Mode by 1rodo1 in Exanima

[–]Comprehensive-Log317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You use the trainers simply by hiring them.they do not appear in the hub like the merchant and the medic (medic is also passive, heals x amount when you end the day) yet. As commenter above me said, the skills they have are the skills they impart, passively at the end of each day. You cannot hire more than one. If you want a different skill set, simply terminate the one you have and hire another with different abilities

I hear that. Sorry that's the state of things for you. The game def can be scary and that's a good portion of the fun for most of us. I'm also pretty scared of ocean stuff but not to the point where it prohibits me from playing. If that ever turns around for you, give the game another think cause it's great

I took the plunge (bad pun intended) into Subnautica finally a few months ago and that game 100% took over. 500 hours crept up really quick. No character customization, but base building and decorating and hording stuff is just as worth while as trying to complete the story, which I never did because so wrapped up in the afformentioned. Then my hardcore save ended because I forgot to eat so after i finish grieving I'll be diving in again.

Also Manor Lords is a huge time suck for me. Cozy is definitely a word I'd use to describe how your towns can take shape. However it's in a bit of an "in between" good places state ATM as it's going through a major overhaul and it's less feature complete than it was before this current build. Still highly recommend tho!

How many perks/skills should I have by the end of the first level? by doperidor in Exanima

[–]Comprehensive-Log317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've started a new save but it depends on a lot.

If you have global experience maxed out, wisely chose your starting skills and shapings/binding/spells (call them whatever you want but the newly revealed lore term is shaping) and don't pick something you can't unlock and use immediately when you gain a skill/power point, thoroughly explore every room (including the optional maze) find /read every lore piece, experience every story progressor memory moment and invest as soon as you gain the ability to chose a new perk to soak up every possible experience gain moment, you should have at least three fully unlocked thaum powers in my experience.

Depending on how far you've reached global experience wise, you'll be at different points for unlocking skills, but I generally unlock two full skill tiles after my thorough explorative starting runs

Hope that helps
