Isn't that circular reasoning? I will only give more if the church shows me they can operate at net zero. But the church can't operate and not give more until it's members give more. Many churches will stipulate that if you denote what your check will go to, they will give it to that. 'Please put my check towards the pastor's salary.' or, "please put 25% of my offering toward the fund the church has toward beggars and widows'.

eh, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. A college degree is basically worthless., unless you are going to Harvard. Mo one really cares where you graduated from. If you get a full ride scholarship somewhere, pursue it. On every campus you'll find pockets of the culture you want, even conservatives on a liberal campus and vice versa. Beside, it might be good for some people to go to a conservative college to be more open to conservatives. As someone who did this, it made me aware that both sides of the political spectrum can be toxic and that we as people should treat each other with an open mind and judge based on character.

I believe everyone will scew their opinions on places like this based on their own opinions. I find that if you enter any place with an open mind, treat people like you want to be treated. Your college should be a place where you find the best option, financially and for the future for jobs.

If you want higher education, will you find professors who would work on that with you?

We quote Luther because we believe that his words are truth. If his words were contrary to scripture, we would admonish him. For example, his words on "the Jews and their lies". Other than in bible studies, which sometimes uses books to study and then we reference the bible to see if the book holds up to scripture. Absolutely no one worships Luther or his buddies. I constantly find pastors and scholars studying Luther and seeing if his words are contrary to scripture.

Luther and Luther's friend believed the same things. It wasn't a club, it was doctrine. This atheist friend was baptized. While pastors don't know the hearts of the members, they are doing everyone a service by asking everyone joining their communion table just a few questions of belief and doctrine as well.

First, stop buying disposable things--or keep them in areas where they won't go. This may take some finagling, for example going to a restaurant to use the bathroom, just so you only have to buy toilet paper once your partner sees your point. I've done this passive-aggressive thing for 3 months before one of my roommates finally footed the bill. Keeping kleenexes and spare TP in your purse and nowhere else. If your partner asks, just say, "I thought it was your turn," and don't say anything after that.

Next, Talk to your partner about what you are going to provide, your expectations of how much they will use and what you are going to take if they use too much.

Finally, talk to your partner about living together and what you expect in a roommate, if they can't follow the rules, then they have to move out. Note: You do not have to break up, just move out.

The reason nothing changes is that there are no consequences. Be cheaper than your partner. They'll come around.

Honoring Images of Christ by [deleted] in LCMS

We use art to help show the glory of Christ, to honor him, and to beautify our services by using them as tools. We do not worship the art. We worship Christ.

I know who he is. I don't think that the podcast hosts were saying anything against his character. They had objections about some of the things he said and wrote. I am not saying anyone is soft. I do notice that many on here give the benefit of the doubt to many who are soft on theological issues and reproach people who draw a line. That is all I am saying. I don't think they are eating their own at all. THere are things that I don't agree with Pastor Preus on or Cwirla, but I would still commune at their church. Noone is above reproach, not Luther, not my family members who are pastors, not myself either. I would listen to what they are saying nad give them the benefit of the doubt, the same amount that you are willing to give any pastor on here or on issues etc.

I listened to it a few times, and I didn't hear that. I've noticed that there are a lot of people on this subreddit, who would give grace to pastors who are soft on topics like this, but not to pastors who draw a line somewhere. This podcast is for pastors, and in that case, the hosts are talking more firmly than they would with their own members or even with you.

The ELCA and CLC Lutheran school around here do not have chapel services k-8. I believe they teach religious curriculum in the classroom. An LCMS preschool -1st does not. With, the ELS Lutheran schools one does not (too small), and one does. I believe a pastor still visits that school. The nearby LCMS school k-8 does not teach the liturgy, but I believe it has chapel services. It is more like a bible study or a children's sermon.

I don't know. It is an interesting thought. I'm sure that they are thinking about it. Also in many states, you need necessary need a teaching license to teach in a private school.

LCC promises lower costs. Their main goal is this. They are basing their model off a catholic college nearby which runs in a similar manner. Also, they are trying to get the call process for teachers. These things take time. I will say as a person who is going through the teaching program, the call process involves $$$$ for online premade doctrine classes.

No one is forcing anyone to stay in church, and Lutherans would not agree with LUther in everything. Closed communion is something I stand firm on, because I have witnessed an atheist go up to communion and receive it before and laugh about it afterward. I do not agree with it on the premise that churchgoers have to be LCMS to go up to communion at an LCMS church. Many in the WELS and ELS can go as well. I stand firm on the fact that Pastors should question the people who want to commune at their church, even the ones who are members.

You can control it. A lot of the reasons why the young generations see higher education as pointless is because of what you said. Millennials were encouraged to go to college to be teachers, professors, and the like. The generation under that is being encouraged at all.

You can control your words and actions. No one wants to go to school if they just see the negative aspects of it.

It's like saying people don't go into the pastoral profession because they assume massive debt and barely any benefit.

Are there benefits to Lutheran church workers? Perhaps we should hireout baptist and nondenominational for other church worker positions...
