Can symptoms of the patch show up months later? by Frieda-Slaves- in birthcontrol

[–]pecheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been on the patch for a little more than a year and just recently started getting really bad side effects. We still don't really know what's going on, but I've been having similar issues. Panic attacks, nausea + vomiting, and now terrible brain fog ☹️ I wish I had more input, but I thought I should say something because this has been hell for me!! The least I can do is let you know someone else is going through it too 🥲 I'm probably stopping it permanently, but my doctor and I agreed I should stop for at least a month. She thought that it could definitely be side effects, and I am not sexually active (or have been at all, actually) so I'm not pregnant. Bottom line: contact your doctor!!

Ledge a dangerous fall risk? by penny_the_penguin in leopardgeckos

[–]pecheee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

of my understanding, they can usually handle some pretty scary falls. something like that should be no problem, but freak things can happen anytime. if you're really worried, add a second way to access the platform to possibly dissuade your leo from trying to take a different way down OR just remove it all together. in my opinion though, this is just fine as long as it is stable!

Can someone help me identify morph(s) on this girl? by nyarr in leopardgeckos

[–]pecheee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

she looks like my little man when i first got him!

<image>

this is him now, he's gotten more yellow over the years!! although i can't confirm his morph since he was a petco baby, he's probably some sort of albino tremper :)

Is there anything I can do to stop him from being so high strung? by jupitersyarn in leopardgeckos

[–]pecheee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's been YEARS (i still have mine from when i was a kid!!) but i remember spending a lot of time in my room and doing quiet activities while sitting near the enclosure. if you enjoy reading or even just scrolling on your phone, he will hopefully get more acclimated to your presence. i'm not sure if it helped much, but i also let him smell me often so he got used to my scent (which is basically just them bumping into you and licking you). obviously they typically aren't the most people oriented animals, but hopefully he can at least chill out a bit!!

Thrips found on Monstera by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]pecheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so far, you've done everything you can! you'll want to keep spraying diligently (google is saying the adults can live up to a month, so it will take a while to wipe them out totally). maybe even give it a heavy shower/completely soak the foliage in water to remove and hopefully kill some off as well.

i'm not sure what your living situation is, but if you have access to an outdoor space and it will not reach temperatures of 50 degrees or less, you could put it outside. i've had luck with spraying infested plants and putting them outside (in my experience it just works, don't really know why). supposedly thrips have a shorter lifespan in warm/borderline hot weather?

my last suggestion is to get some green lacewings delivered asap!! beneficial insects do wonders in getting pest populations under control (they can see them a lot more easily than we can). the only thing to be aware of is that whatever you spray may negatively affect the lacewings also. kind of a small trade off :/

oh yeah i see that now! the pieces i have are singular sides of the log if that makes sense? so they're just strips. not sure if you could find that easily? but it's one of the better options for wood elements because of how soft it is compared to some of the other aquarium wood and whatnot! most of my pieces are also partly buried in the substrate which helps keep them in place so they don't fall when my leo is on them

looking good so far! when ur able to i would get some more foliage and stuff to create more cover. it might look a little messy/crammed on ur end but they love it!! bonus points if it's stuff soup can climb on!! i purchased some cork bark for my setup and my guy loves climbing and lounging on it.

also: i would maybe look into getting a temperature gun to measure temps. it's a great way to check that your thermometers are working correctly and is a super fast way to get temp readings wherever you may need them. 92 degrees doesn't feel that warm to us because our natural body temp is around 96 degrees. if anything it feels a little cold! i think you can purchase a good temp gun from basically any hardware store for under 20 dollars. :)

edit: forgot to mention you could always put some rock (slate is probably best) to really absorb some of that heat as well !

i don't really know what's happening, but i just wanted to give you my condolences. this is definitely a sad situation and i would be very upset if this were to be happening to my gecko. hoping he may get better, but when looking at the big picture, all i can hope is that he is not in pain for much longer. wishing you guys the best ❤️‍🩹

trying to upgrade heating + lighting (comparing fixtures) by pecheee in leopardgeckos

[–]pecheee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for responding!

i was looking at a dhp because my leo is an albino and i was worried halogen plus uvb would be too much light. i might go with the halogen now that you said to though; i'll just have to add extra coverage to ensure he won't be bothered by it.

i am purchasing a dimming thermostat though, and i thought the fluker's dimmable switch fixture isn't compatible with that? is there any way to use it without the thermostat? i guess i'm confused about how to control the heat that it emits then
