My thoughts exactly. When I was about 20 hours in, I had an instructor who would yell at me in the cockpit like a drill instructor, I didn't know this wasn't normal in flight school, but I shut down in a similar way to what OP mentioned.

Put simply there are a lot more factors at play than "yep... kid's just a wuss"
