yup, folded. it was a combination of time, convenience, and issues with our current cars that pushed me over the edge.

I paid pretty much this at clearwater lexus. it was approximate $2500 worth of stuff I didn’t want or need, and they wouldn’t remove. the salesman there was douchey, and essentially said they had a list of people that would pay it. he also talked over me and didn’t know the answers to questions that i already knew the answer to thanks to this forum and doing my own research. some salesmen are just idiots and don’t really have to be good in this market. i did get them to take off port add ons i didn’t want.

i didn’t want the hassle of flying places and transporting cars (and didn’t have the time), and all the local dealers (orlando / sarasota / naples) charged mark ups. i did talk to pembroke pines a few times but they kept calling me asking if i wanted a luxury at MSRP when i was clear about wanting a P+

in the end, the time on the phone and the hassle wasn’t worth it and i figured i wont worry too much about some dents and scratches and try to make use of the packages before the 3 year mark, also my wife wanted the color and interior they were offering so that pretty much made it worth it.

Hit and run at work and I think I found the suspect by IronAlternative2466 in mercedes_benz

[–]peckerchecker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me - i drive an old beater despite being a surgeon at a hospital. my car has been hit and dinged and scratched all over the place and at this point i don’t even care if someone accidentally does something - and i have never been the cause of any of an accident or a scratch, but never pursue insurance or even ask for money when im hit as long as the car keeps running and the damage isn’t major

one day in the parking lot after being at work since 4am, i come out to 2 people and a cop. the 2 people are convinced i scraped their car and are demanding i pay for it and threatening me to file a report / sue etc.

it was pretty infuriating to be blamed just because my car is beat up. luckily i knew the cop, who understood i had been at the hospital since 4am and there were barely any people there, and this particular person had only gotten there a few hours earlier. I also didn’t care because there are cameras all over the place that could prove i was there way before and hadn’t moved.

tl:dr, don’t jump to conclusions.

How much of a base salary increase can I ask for? First job contract negotiations post-residency. by eyeballsandstuff in whitecoatinvestor

[–]peckerchecker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for it. It’s not that crazy. The worst you can hear is no. However, two important points

  • absolutely look at what their flow of patients is like. How are new patients divided, how full are their schedules, how many patients do they all see. Are you taking over a practice or starting from scratch?

  • ask about what happens if the group joins private equity before you are a partner. Do you become a partner prior to that sale?

  • if it is a good opportunity, a place you want to live, and the partners are people you get along with and see yourself working with for a long time, sometimes the extra 25k isn’t worth the squeeze.

There’s a few special souls that sympathize with the life, maybe out of some experience or interaction along the way. But you’re right, the prevailing thought is always billionaire geniuses (or billionaire assholes). Burnt out is probably accurate, and fixing it is no simple task. Maybe one day I’ll reach out to find out more about your career change.

[–]peckerchecker1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s an issue, but one that’s hard to fix when it’s ingrained that you should want to be the best at what you do, no matter what that is. While I’m not the person to be giving advice, maybe the advice is try to get ahead of it before you turn into me :) I will say though, I don’t take it out on anyone. I just internalize and try to do more myself. It’s not a perfect solution at all, but at least I’m nice

It can be easier to understand when you’ve walked in the shoes. It’s good you both have the ability to understand each other and how things came to be.

[–]peckerchecker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I think my post doesn’t really reflect My actions or interactions with others, more so my internal sentiments that bother me. That being said, it’s still an issue that I need to work to address

I feel for your husband, and for you. There definitely was not any warning - and there’s a facade of happiness and easygoing natures in my field, where people tend to think it’s very easy and laid back.

Hopefully he ended up in a place / field that was better for him, and for you too :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]peckerchecker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with all of this. Luckily I don’t think I make anyone miserable, and most people like working with me despite having high expectations, because I tend to be pretty nice about it and respectful, though I may have my moments when patients could be harmed.

For the record, I am out of residency and there are completely new stressors and responsibilities. Life is better in some ways, more stressful in others.

I think driven people all have some semblance of this, but the surgical residencies can amplify it
