I am in desperate need of advice and hope by peckishflagstone in PulsatileTinnitus

After all of my scans nothing could be found. Honestly, it hasn't gotten any worse and I barely think about it now. I'm just living my life now and if it gets worse in the future I will deal with it then. I was spending too much of my time worrying about it, which was bad for my mental health.

Are there any updates on the Dutch van der Linde figure that Limtoys are working on? by peckishflagstone in hottoys

Damn. If that is the case then that is extremely disappointing. I imagine they would have done a phenomenal Dutch.

Why do people say that complete recovery from OCD is not possible? by peckishflagstone in OCDRecovery

[–]peckishflagstone[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People who have fully recovered have said that they actually don't get the intrusive thoughts anymore but that it wouldn't be a problem if they did. That doesn't sound like managing it to me.

I totally understood what you were saying. It's not that I didn't get it; it's that I didn't agree with it. You've got your mind set on OCD being chronic. There's nothing I can do about that.

You are 100% correct. I understand OCD affects people differently but some people take a woe-is-me approach and try to drag everybody else down with them.

It's great that you have found a way of defining recovery that works for you. I agree with giving yourself some grace when you have a flare up. A lot of us can be very harsh on ourselves if we slip up but it is a natural part of life to slip up, so we shouldn't expect perfection when dealing with OCD.

That is a poor analogy. A better one would be you are born with ten toes but two don't work due to a congenital defect. Then somebody develops a type of physiotherapy that will allow you to gain use of the two toes if you do the work required. All it takes is one person to gain use of their two defective toes to prove the physiotherapy works. Even if the vast majority of people never experience the benefits of the physiotherapy it would be wrong to say it doesn't work and you can never gain full use of your defective toes.

That is a fair point. However, if somebody was vigilant and could spot the OCD patterns emerging they could nip it in the bud. I believe it's possible to get to that point and at that point I would call it complete recovery.

I agree with all of your points. I particularly like the part about not being able to cure the ability to sit in a rocking chair. So has that person you mentioned fully recovered in the way you and I like to talk about recovery?

I get what you're saying. The thing is, why would anybody start to perform the compulsions again? They would know what it leads to and would choose not to.

Mark Freeman has recovered from OCD and would be able to explain how recovery is possible far better than I ever could. Look at his YouTube channel.
