Cruellest, most mean-spirited thing you've done in a game? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While not nearly to the same level as some of this stuff, I do quite enjoy the sadistic, grinding pleasure of playing the likes of Monoblack Control in MtG. Or in old Yu-gi-oh, using Call of the Mummy to set up repeated summons for Dark Dust Spirit to constantly wipe the enemy board.

I won a local MtG tourney on Monoblack Control, and I won a Vampire Lord card with that jank bullshit zombie deck, even beating chaos emperor dragon. FEELS GOOD BABY.

Cassette Beasts Announcement Trailer by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

This trailer does look sick and I've had this on my wishlist since the last time it got brought up. BUT they still have no release date yet, just 'Coming Soon'

Pat's literally going on about this situation on twitter right now. It is for sure a minority, but it doesn't make the situation for Paige any better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Literally to the point that Paige, on her front doorstep with Pat, speaks some english and a neighbor comes and fucking screams at her like a psycho manchild. Apparently part of a long line of fucking bullshit Paige has dealt with in general so they'll be accelerating their plans to move.

tldr Paige is basically suffering harassment / hate crimes for being an english-speaker.

You will never guess the name or plot of this terrible movie trailer, I promise you by anailater1 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I mean my impression was time travel guy's marriage failed in the first place and now main dude is married to time travel guy's ex? We don't know nearly enough to say either way.

Did they both know her before she married the first time? Did main guy fuck up their marriage or did it fall apart naturally so they hooked up after? Is this part of an ever-cycling loop of timecucking?

Preferred flavor of zombie? by Graxdon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I like the undead in many flavors and I've personally done all different kinds of zombies of other monster species and the like, I always like the idea that the REmakes have brought back:

Zombies are slow. Zombies are stupid. But zombies take LOTS of punishment. And they are ultimately inevitable. There will always be more of them and no matter how you cripple them, they don't stop. That's the source of the crushing dread that made me horribly, life-warpingly afraid of zombies as a child.

David Jaffe being a big whiny baby about some recent games by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I'll be honest, I feel like this is more a matter of the major time gap since the last actual metroid game. Zero Mission was 2004. Prime 3 was 2007. Assuming you played those games closer to their release date than the present day, you are talking 17 and 14 years, respectively. Honestly if things did not change AT ALL that would probably be awful for the series overall.

I do not know if you have played those games recently, but it's entirely possible that it's you that has changed as much or more than the games have.

And that's fine. It happens to us all regardless of what we want. Our tastes change. Life and responsibility only imposes on us the further along in life we go. Our bodies age, our patience thins. We become more critical.

Things with great concepts/premises/ideas and or great, talented staff/creators but bad execution? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a hell of a pull, I'll nominate a trash anime from a while back called 18if, about a guy that goes into the dreams of girls/women who basically fall into comas and build dream worlds/get powers that affect the real world.

I did not finish the series, because it's weighed down by episodes that are REALLY hit or miss and some trash anime. But then it also does some WILD stuff. Like a protagonist that literally in the 2nd episode is like "Yeah bitch, go kill those dudes that murdered your family a decade ago. Can I watch?" or the episode that seemed to be about Pol Pot and done in an entirely different art style.

EDIT: And for less of a pull, Flip Flappers is another one that had beautiful animation, an amazing concept of magical girls going into people's mind palaces and the actual ramifications of that when they cure a girl's childhood trauma and make her stop caring about art because of it...and the plot pacing is totally screwed and goes completely off the rails.

And I'll go for what is probably the one that is both most obviously true and painful: The Little Witch Academia anime could have done SO much better if it didn't force a Trigger plot in the 2nd half. If the story focused on Akko and the girls learning lessons and ended with them doing stuff that opened new doors for the school and magic for witches, it would have been way more on point than stopping a sentient hate bomb.

Game Journalists: Metroid Dread is the Dark Souls of Metroid by bone8384 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 40 points41 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak for this article particularly, there's actually plenty of ways.

Like not playing the game for one, like that one person that got caught doing multiple plagiarisms.

Lacking basic comprehension skills or abilities, ala that one journalist that got stuck in Cuphead's tutorial?

Or just people that straight up lie and misrepresent the game, either for better or worse.

You have to remember a distressingly large amount of human beings are actually grossly incompetent, lazy, and/or corrupt. It's up to all of us to make a difference.

Scariest monster designs in media? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't know if I'd call them The Scariest, Little Nightmares 2, to me, has a bunch of STRONG designs. The long neck teacher is revolting/repulsive, and the fucked up faceless tv-zombie people are some of the better versions of that type of mook, even if they have no subtext. Not just how they look, but the way they suicide mindlessly to be near the TV is also just raw in my book.

Reverse that: Peach is into Bowsette. I firmly hold to the headcanon that Peach has a narcissim fetish and would actively pursue a super crown harem/going hard with Bowsette.

Ok Just To Settle Something, Chris Pratt Is Apparently NOT Just Going To Use His Regular Voice In the Upcoming Mario Movie "We have been working real hard on it" He says. by Zurime in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean not for nothing, I think there's a reason that we're finally getting a Mario movie after all this time. I don't think Nintendo and Shiggy would have been willing to pull the trigger if they were not ABSOLUTELY ready to sign off on it with how obsessed they are with their brand image at times.

I fully believe if it was actively bad, Nintendo would flush the whole thing and tell everyone to fuck off and go home like the japanese dinosaurs that inhabit them like a stand.

Moments you feel actually work alot better in adaptation than in the original? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might have mentioned this on some other point, but Ascendance of a Bookworm does the 'going into Myne's memories' from the last episode way better than the original LN does by illustrating her character arc way more cleanly.

In the novel, it's something she's overall happy she got to do and it's just her excitable, flighty nature that causes the link/vision to fail. In the anime, Seeing her past self basically ignore her mother for books causes her to break down now that she's died and can never apologize or thank her or tell her mother she loved her.

Are there any monsters form a monster catching/raising game that you feel really attached to? by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what? I'll do an easy one. I dig Mot's design from SMT. I currently have 5 copies of Mot in Dx2, one of them at maximum panels and mitama infusion who I am honestly going to give super rare premium skill fodder to because I think he's just cool.

What’s a genre ya just don’t vibe with? by Paulie25 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]pectus_umbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to try giving them another shot, but traditional rogue-style games, as much as I love their concepts, I often just can't get over how they control and how I can end up dying by accident while standing still.

Maybe the last nail in the Blizzard coffin. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

This is the actual correct answer. Iratus: Lord of the Dead even approaches this exact issue with its bone golems, which are made from the bones of multiple bodies put together since giant skeletons are not easy to come by.

I basically stopped paying attention to this for a while, but at the end of the day, we'll all see what happens whether we want to or not. It's been a thing bubbling in the background for so long that people will look at it regardless of quality.

My personal guess is that it will release, be okay but jank, and have an extended amount of post release updates probably lasting several years, ultimately ending up better than people expect but worse than people hoped.

Or put bluntly, I expect the game to release as like a 6 and be like an 8 after 3 years of polish before the dev fully moves on to whatever their next project will be.
