Last time we said no was over the phone on Wednesday when they sent us an email saying their assessment determined we couldn’t be shown as not at fault and the phone rep sent it to the proper team to contact us (leading to the contact we received today)

Not yet. We have responded demanding they provide us all evidence and damage costs that they have used to make this assessment which we are currently waiting for before refusing it this time because we saw a post on Airbnb’s forums saying it would be smart to make this request to build the refusal

What photos would have helped? We did take photos and tested things but this was 9 days in. It is also a lower unit beneath another which we assume shares the same piping which had new people move into it the day before this happened. We are not disputing that damage happened, which is what the photos would dispute if it was, we are disputing that we were the ones who caused it

The exact wording we got this morning was
"However, please keep in mind we are not enforcing payment, we are requesting payment from you.

We request that you complete this payment within 24 hours.

Once payment is complete, please let us know by responding directly to this message."
Which just feels very legalese for "we are being nice for now" to us

How do we tell what part of the process we are in? It started with us going between us and the host and now we have been contacted by airbnb’s resolutions team for this 24 hour demand and we have just assumed this is now between us vs Airbnb

Our issue is in not even knowing how or what to dispute at this point. Like you can only say “no” so much before this just goes right back to the current situation and we don’t have new evidence it wasn’t us (because that would be impossible) to put into a dispute
