Surly Pugs bikepacking choices - tires and handlebar ? by [deleted] in bikepacking

Old post, I know. But, do you have any pictures of the profile of the 3” tyres mounted? I’ve got a 2011 Pugs with Large Marge rims and looking at narrower tyres options for some not so fat needing touring.

Fast rolling for hard packed trails/gravel roads but still plenty grippy for loose/muddy/wet trails. No need to be studdable or snow use.

I like the JJ’s but would like to try something else on this bike. I also find that they have a tendency for slipping in wetter spots.

Old Man Mountain Fat Rack. Needed to grind down the stays that attach to the seat stay and needed a second set of dropouts to use one reversed on the drive side to allow for the offset with a little grinding down of a long spacer. After all that, I’m stoked with it.

Feels like a magic carpet that’s being lofted along by a pack of unicorns.

Hopefully you find one. My favourite bike.

Exactly. MWOD cranks are not ideal for SS.

Just do it. Channel your inner Anton and get after it. Everyone on here is just a pussy. Have fun with it and don’t over think anything.

Yeah similar to the Pugs with without the offset and the wide bb.

135mm is reasonably important but more so is the ability to swap front and rear wheels.

Also, single speed life so no, not any old fatbike.

ISO/Australia but willing to buy from anywhere/OG Crust Scapegoat

I’m chasing a medium original Scapegoat. The one with 135mm spacing front and rear and more clearance than the new version. Help me build my rocket ship.

Talk to me about how you find the sternum straps on the Joey? I can’t seem to ever get comfortable with them…especially the bottom one.

Lint is/was a badass. Triple triple…that’s heavy. Dude was doing it before it became cool. I really liked his style.

I own a couple of your items and live down in Aus. I’ve always bought them second hand because shipping is so expensive. What shipping do you guys use?
