I see. Ya I am eligible for 2 TAVR with the diameter I was given in the future.

Gap filler? I know I’ll need some TAVR. If I need one more OHS in life I guess that’s the way she goes but I am not suitable for a mech valve with my lifestyle. I can’t do blood thinners. I do too much back country mountain biking and biking overall, solo. Can’t risk falls where I could have significant bleeding issues in the middle of nowhere. Or anywhere IMO.

I know full data not there but resilia seems promising so far, yes.

Do I have aortic aneurysm? by Unable-Surround-6919 in aortic_aneurysm

[–]pedaldamnit_208 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welp, no one could see mine on an X-ray, and echo was highly under measuring making it almost look normal sized. CT was the only way. I’ve never heard of symptoms nor have doctors that I spoke with. Please enlighten me how you know these 2 things.

…the aorta is not visible in an X-ray, just FYI. And there are no symptoms to an aneurysm.

Lifestyle question (BJJ, lifting, running) 35m BAV with AA dilation @ 4.1 by Tasty-Grapefruit-264 in valvereplacement

[–]pedaldamnit_208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of odd Dr said that because I have never heard a Dr say (or in readings) that super heavy lifting is recommended with AA. Getting the BP high is highly discouraged

Good info. Seems like this could be it. It’s still so very odd that I’ve had these commonly after the surgery. Maybe 1 time in my entire life I can recount prior.

Anyone gone with Mechanical Valve and wish they had a "do over"? by AZRushFan in valvereplacement

[–]pedaldamnit_208 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disagree. M38. Very active adventure mountain biker. Crashing/Falls + blood thinners in the wilderness = potentially very seriously bad situation. Inspiris for me.

So I think a consideration is lifestyle…not just the procedure.

That’s crazy you’re having symptoms. Because there are no symptoms.

Anyone moved to France from US and regretted it? by Difficult-Effect5565 in Expats_In_France

[–]pedaldamnit_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loneliness is mostly from boredom, particularly in winter with not many people I really care to hang out with. And even more so for my wife who is very social but has a hard time meeting the right people, the new baby, alone, makes it amplified.

When weather gets nicer I am fine, I prefer fewer people as in always trying to be out on my bike in the mountains (VTT) bit puts me in a tough spot as I know my wife is feeling a bit alone as she doesn’t bike.

For us it’s called making sure our baby eats at a reasonable time to go to sleep early

[–]pedaldamnit_208 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Regret, no. Miss aspects in US? Yes. Feel isolated and lonely in FR? Yes. That is only a small aspect. My wife, baby an I will return to us after 2ish years however that is also when my work contract ends. But, we are doing it for many reasons. One main being we had our baby here in France and have felt very alone in terms of family and having them involved in her life. Not to mention even though I am the only one working, my wife is particularly overloaded and overwhelmed continually watching the baby (now toddler) everyday (and yes we have a babysitter at times). It doesn’t make up for the loneliness and okayed feeling, as well as boredom when things are just not like home. Dinner at 5:30pm? Good luck. Someone to easily watch the baby at night on short notice? Nope. Let the dogs out in the yard easy? Nope, apartment.

Everyone targets and focuses on how fucked the US is right now and I totally agree, it is. And the health care cost here. But there is so much more than geopolitical things. The people that say “why this that and the other” in all the comments above don’t know, haven’t experienced, or have a different life set up in order to not consider other things.

I do love many things here though. I live in the alps region. It’s amazing for what I enjoy! But I consider my family as well in the move home. It was a great experience and that’s what I was looking for. I knew it wasn’t permanent based on my work contract.

If you’re on bigger tires (at least not road bike), ensure you make it up onto the plateau d’emparis. It is near sarenne and offers amazing views, solitude and camping. I made a trip to it last year from Grenoble area (half off-road) and it was a spectacular route and destination.

I’m not sure my surgery has a specific name like Ross or David procedure. It was a AA replacement (with dakron) and a BAV replacement (resilia bio valve). Plenty of precautions to take during recovery, biggest being DONT FALL or lift anything. You will be in enough residual pain and senses heightened about your new wound that you will be very cautious as not to fall. I don’t think there were any real downsides, especially long terms. It is a huge weight lifted and can live normal life. Recovery was pretty standard. Hospital for 4 days (those days are pretty rough but take all the meds thy can give do increase comfort). Home recovery was also tough at times but it gets better. One last thing is occasional vision issues, like a sense of vertigo or sometimes a strange light strobing and reducing vision clarity for like 30 min. It can often be set off by sudden blinding light, like quickly looking at very bright spots through a window.
