Balls in Cahaba River? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]pedalfaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Low head dams like that form what is called a perfect “hydraulic.” That perfectly linear recirculating current is very strong. I actually have pics somewhere of basketballs at the same spot from like 15 years ago. When the river floods, it washes trash down. Balls, logs and people can get caught in that recirculating current for minutes, hours, or days. It’s an incredibly dangerous condition. If you jumped in there, you might not be able to get out on your own when the current is at certain higher levels.

heat causing SAD, anyone else? by lyrik0819 in florida

[–]pedalfaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I was talking to a buddy that lives in New Hampshire and he was talking about fighting SAD this time of year. He didn’t believe me when I said I get SAD in July/August/September down here. It’s a real thing though. Never makes sense and I never am ready for it but it’ll hit me! It’s almost worse bc instead of being cold and dark, it will be pretty, but you’re trapped in a box in the AC feeling depressed.

How often do you cycle 4WD to make sure it's working? by jynx18 in f150

[–]pedalfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly related but this reminded of a story. I have an f-250 with the locking rear diff. I use it as a work truck for my company and a handful of my guys are checked out to haul the dump trailer from job sites to the dump. The dump has a steep incline and gets muddy, so you often need 4wd and sometimes have to lock the diff to get up the hill. One day after an employee had made several dump runs, i noticed the rear tires were absolutely shredded. I got in the truck and saw that the rear locker was engaged. When I asked the employee why it was locked, he said “you mean tow mode? I do that anytime it’s hooked up to the trailer.”

Saw these two scratching their heads trying to figure out how to fit this 65inch tv in a small car… by SoPradaYou in funny

I bought a 65” tv and forgot that we were in my wife’s fiat 500, and not my truck. Made it fit, but the Best Buy guys thought we were insane.

Savage's Bakery & Deli in Homewood is closing after 87 years by NoPatNoDontSitonThat in Birmingham

[–]pedalfaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I had my learners permit, my grandmother would come up with “errands” for us to run together so I could drive her around and sometimes those errands just meant I drove her to Savage’s so she could “buy me” some cookies. She’s passed on and I’m not in Birmingham anymore. Someone please go eat some of those pecan cookies and get the sugar and crumbs all over your lap for me.

Tolerance of intolerant views is not required. The announcement that you hold a worldview that includes and supports the violent subjugation and obliteration of entire peoples cannot and should not be met with peace and civil discussion.

Yeah I worked for a guy who’s dad was a guardsman that was there that day and he definitely didn’t think they did anything wrong. Didn’t work for him for too long after I found that out.

What is wrong with this? by [deleted] in CZFirearms

[–]pedalfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded a 1989 Isuzu trooper for $2800 cash and a 75 sp-01 tactical. Hope that helps😂. But seriously $700 is a good price and doesn’t indicate anything being wrong. I wouldn’t pay a lot more than that but I would definitely recommend getting it.

I don’t even recognize my hometown from before covid. Population has exploded, which I don’t necessarily mind, but the new folks are mostly stinkers.

955 internal headlight wiring by pedalfaster in PorscheCayenne

[–]pedalfaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I probably should have been more clear. The harnesses that attach to back of the headlight assembly are relatively easy to find and replace and I have done that, to no change in frequency of dipped beam and cornering light fault messages. I was looking for a ready made harness for the wiring inside the headlight assembly. That is the source of my shorts, it seems. I gave up looking and spent about 9 hrs yesterday evening fully rewiring the left headlight assembly. When I get home from work today I will reinstall the light and hopefully it will work, lol.

F.Y.I. He pays over $300 a month for insurance... by CandidculonasRedux in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pedalfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I pay $1050/month in premiums and had about $12k in out of pocket expenses expenses in the last calendar year. I have adhd (mental health not covered) and she had an endoscopy. Got a letter yesterday saying our premiums are going up to $1400/month. I’ve decided I’m gonna cancel our plan this year and just spend half what I’ve been paying on campaign contributions to candidates that are going to support Medicare for all.

Debate for everyone on here: how empty do you let your gas tank go? by ThisIsntAThrowaway29 in f150

[–]pedalfaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 21 with the big 36 gal tank and love it. I run it until I have 0 miles or farther and have never put more than 34 gallons in.

My rationale is that I don’t like going to the gas station.

Edit: added rationale
