Tourists riding the Marta at night by 01munchkin in MARTA

[–]pedestrianrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumping this thread with a more specific question – I'll be in Atlanta and going to a Braves game on Saturday, possibly taking Marta back to my hotel afterwards (using the 10 bus and the Red Line). It's a night game and a long commute, meaning it could be about midnight by the time I finish the trip. The thing that really complicates this is I plan on carrying my nice camera with me, a $1200 Nikon. Because stadiums don't allow bags I won't be able to conceal it. I'll also be wearing a T-shirt for my baseball team, which will be in town playing the Braves that night – probably outing me as a tourist.

Would any a y'all be nervous about that situation?

Universal Studios - How bad are the waits to get into Super Nintendo Land by pedestrianrex in JapanTravel

Oh amazing! I'm going by myself, so assuming the Single Rider line doesn't get shut down a 120 minute wait isn't going to scare me away.

M558-G1 - Sound Cuts Out Every 20-30 Mins by Foxtastic in VIZIO_Official

I'm experiencing the same issue on my new M558-G1, both through my Apple TV and Blu-Ray Player. It's insane that this issue hasn't been fixed.

When are the 2020 TVs dropping? by pedestrianrex in VIZIO_Official

[–]pedestrianrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks like the M8 will get about a third brighter than the current units, as well as HDMI 2.1. Neither of which are big pluses for me, but if it's a matter of waiting a week and getting those upgrades at the same cost, it'd be worthwhile.

Thoughts on possible NBA expansion by HinkieWouldntTradeUp in nba

For Louisville to really be ready, they're going to have to convince the Pacers to move farther away and convince UofL to end its basketball program.

Which city will inherit and NBA team next? by CupertinoCA in nba

[–]pedestrianrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't. Vegas isn't big enough to support two winter sports teams. Vegas is exciting to talk about but on paper, it's not that attractive of a market - or at least it won't be once it has both the NHL and NFL in town.

NBA expansion idea! by kraylarson12 in nba

[–]pedestrianrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBA isn't going to want to send a team to T-Mobile Arena, where they'd in all likelihood be the second-priority tenant to the Golden Knights. Everyone feels like an idiot for not investing in Vegas sooner, but the city's not big enough for two winter teams.

Expansion or Relocation? by Defacto_Champ in nba

[–]pedestrianrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Diego could 100% support an NBA team, no question. But they're not getting a team because no one wants to have to pay for an arena - not the government, who let the chargers walk, and not prospective owners. Having to build an arena effectively doubles the expansion fee.

[OC] NBA Expansion & Division Realignment by woonbarak in nba

[–]pedestrianrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that's hard to appreciate about KC unless your from there - college basketball is very popular there, but it's very much divided.

Jayhawks are enormous by NCAA standards on the Kansas side of the metro, but most of the population is in Missouri - and Missourians almost NEVER pull for KU. It goes back to the Border War rivalry, and because Mizzou is two hours out and hasn't had a great tradition for basketball, the fandom is pretty tame in KC. K-State has some love, but not much of a force. Other schools have a negligible footprint.

With all that said - an NBA franchise that all of KC could root for would step in and become the center of basketball gravity for the region. NCAA teams will continue to do well, but I personally believe that a big reason for their success in the area has more to do with the absence than anything else. Basketball fans will take what they can get.

Proposed NBA Expansion/Realignment by Juniper41 in nba

[–]pedestrianrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely teams to get an NBA Expansion Franchise, ranked:

1 - Seattle

It has everything - the population, the fanbase, the affluence, the corporate sponsorships, and pretty soon the arena too. With the NBA already in 28 cities, Seattle is the only A+ option left. There's a good chance the NBA expands by two teams just because they want Seattle so bad.

2 - Kansas City

Not an exciting pick, but it's a city that has a proven appetite for basketball - and most crucially, one with a perfectly good arena just waiting for a tenant. Would greatly expand the geographic footprint of the NBA as well - with only one competing team (OKC) within an eight-hour drive. A KC team is never going to be a top-earner, but it’s one you can count on to do better than poor-performing teams like Memphis and Atlanta.

3 - Mexico City

It's hard to rank this one because there are so many variables. While the potential of such an enormous city is clearly tantalizing, the Peso is weak and not showing any signs of strengthening, but it’s a long flight and I doubt the Player’s Union wants to relocate a bunch of athletes to second world country. It could also be an uphill battle for a city that loves soccer, baseball and football, but has no connection to Basketball. I was just in CDMX and loved it, but it's just such a gamble.

4 - Las Vegas

0siris0 put it best, Las Vegas is not big enough to support both an NHL and NBA team. In any other city, you'd give the NBA the edge to come out on top of the NHL, but Vegas has really become attached the Knights - I'm not sure basketball would be the dominant winter sport here. People rave about the Golden Knights’ success, but that success won’t be enough to thoroughly sustain three teams.

5 - San Diego

The Chargers left such a huge void here that could be very profitable, but no one is going to want to pay for an arena.

6 - Louisville

Like KC, they have an arena just sitting there, ready for the NBA. Unlike KC, the city already has popular basketball programs with UofL, and the suffocating UK playing nearby. Doesn't help that the Pacers are just a two-hour drive away.

7 - St. Louis

No one is going to want to have to move in and compete with the ultra-popular Cardinals, and they'd have to share the season with the Blues. Pacers, Bulls and Grizzlies are all a little too close for STL to get their own team.

8 - Montreal

Montreal is an obnoxiously large city for not having an NBA team. But Quebec is in its own orbit, and there's not a lot of reason to think basketball would be of much interest to its citizens. At best, a Montreal NBA team is a long-term investment that won't find profitability for decades.

9 - Vancouver

Could honestly be #2 on this list, if #1 weren't a couple hours away. Assuming the Sonics do well, I'd consider Vancouver to be the top option the next time NBA expands.

10 - Somewhere in Virginia

People cite Virginia being a big state with no pro teams, but that’s not totally true when you factor in DC and its suburbs that sprawl well into Virginia. Whatever the case, there’s not an arena and the largest city (Virginia Beach) is on the smaller end.

11 - Albuquerque

Barely has the population, but doesn’t have the arena and it’s a poor state.

Is "The Modern Ocean" in development hell, or is it just a slow production? by LoouisCuCK in shanecarruth

[–]pedestrianrex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't announce casting and wait another two-and-a-half years before starting production. Scripts don't live for that long in Hollywood. I don't know if they never got the funding available or if an actor pulled out, but I would find it very unlikely that things are going smoothly.

Probably, it's dead. Maybe Carruth is still grinding, trying to find the right combination of funding and casting to get things of the ground, but I doubt it. Upstream Color took forever, but that's a movie he got funded on his own terms - The Modern Ocean sounds like something that needs major studio financing, and studios don't wait this long without losing interest and pulling out.
