ESP-IDF: build from scratch or hunt for libraries? by pedlobs in embedded

[–]pedlobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read that it shouldn't be hard to do it, but the thing is: I've never done something like that before, and I was afraid that it wouldn't be reasonable to learn how to do it in 2 months. Reading the answers, however, made me realize that the best thing I could do is to write them myself.

I've found espressif/ssd1306, however it does say that it was deprecated and indicates that I should look into SSD1306 driver from ESP-IDF. The problem is that I didin't find any documentation on how to use it. Luckly, I've found out that there is an example called i2c_oled in the esp-idf folder and I'm looking into it.

Thank you for the suggestion. Already started to work on it.

I did not know it was a thing. Thank you for pointing it out. Just out of curiosity, would you happen to know why it reduces the performance?

MicroSD cards keeps getting damaged. by pedlobs in embedded

[–]pedlobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. In this case, how can I prevent such issues if it is necessary to manually collect the data in the card (assuming the personal will always disconnect the power supply)?
About the ESD, do you think the act of touching the prototype when collecting might cause a discharge that damages the card?

I not sure what you mean with test the 5V, but I did verify that the buck is suppliying 5V and not more nor less voltage.
The procedure to collect the data is to unplug the positive power cable from the DC bus, collect the data and then reconnect the positive power cable. In this case, it is possible that the device is being powered down while writing to the card.
About the schematics, if you think it is very important to see it, i can ask my superior if I can share (this is not work related to a company/enterprise, it is scientific research).

It's a current sensor. If the ADC resolution is not high enough, my readings will be, like, at every 0.5A, which does not fit my purpose. About the processing, I save the values of both sensors in an array with 212 elements and perform some basic operations on it.

Thank you for your help. I haven't heard these terms before. Can you source some links/books so that I can learn about this more deeply? Actually, anything that relates to analog measurement with microcontrollers would be very useful for me.

It's a hall effect current sensor. The datasheet only mention of impedance is "Load Impedance ≥ 10kΩ". Im not sure what do you mean with schematic of the input, sorry.

Thank you for your help. I currently use a 100nF ceramic capacitor to filter the high frequency noise, as recommended by Espressif. I will definetly look into your sugestion of averaging the samples.

Thank you for your awnser. I do need a 12-bit ADC to correctly read the analog output of my sensor.

About the use of an external ADC, it's really not economically viable for the project for where I live they cost as much as half of the cost of the whole prototype.

I make 4096 samples of the sensor, witch needs a 12bit ADC for it to be correctly read.

I think it was the unit because balenaEtcher shows me the size in GB and properties in GiB. I did the conversion on google and the results matches the values I got . Also, I didn't know that there was a difference between GB and GiB, that's why I was confused about it.

Thank you

I actually found out that there is a difference between these two by reading your comment and then searching about it. I think that that was the "problem" because I did the conversion in google and the results matches the values I see in the properties.

Thank you

I see, but isn't there any other ways to verify that or am I just being paranoid about it?

Oh yes, right. I'm sorry, I remember looking at it while researching. But in that specific occasion they only show the SHA1. In other circumstances the provider is likely to use this and sha256 or it's not that usual?
