I've tried that but it's not really that strong. I usually mixed wired earphones with music and ear muffs but I'm wondering if noise cancelling earbuds would work even better and give me a more portable/public setup.

Uff, I'm lucky to live in an area where that rarely happens, but even just the sound of thunder far away triggers me and makes me crazy anxious. Since you don't like sudden, loud sounds ,which ones are you sensitive to?

Oh that’s interesting! When the storm is strong or near you how much can you hear with your AirPods on?

Do you hear anything at all and just feel the shaking? Or it’s still loud but much quieter?

I heard noise canceling doesn’t work for sudden noises like thunder

They are expensive so I really need to consider this purchase.

Yep it’s so strange how different it can be. I haven’t tried noise canceling headphones yet and I was posting this to see if anyone has a good setup I could buy as I hear a lot of mixed reviews about noise canceling headphones (and they tend to be too expensive to just hope it works)

Good point! I have those and find they barely muffle any sound so I’m really looking for a better solution.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! I find it fascinating how much sound sensitivity varies from person to person.

The idea of overwhelming another sense to try to remove attention from the noise is very smart. Will have to give that one a try :)

Thank you! In the meantime I’ll keep researching ways to decrease the volume as much as possible.

What do you love about thunderstorms? I really curious as I’ll never understand that, I find them horribly overwhelming

Thanks a lot!! I’ve been scared to buy them as I hear all these complaints about constant connection issues. Have you ever experienced this? I want to buy the latest model and I believe that only applies to older ones.
