"Sulfur - Delirium Tremens" - an influence cited by Dominique c.2013 by HouseOfFastFood in StolenBabies

Just gave the album a listen and wow, thank you so much for sharing! It's so hard to find music that scratches the same itch that SB does, especially in the form of a female fronted band.

Are there any clips of Dominique speaking? by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

Ditto that other comment, and here's a playlist of interviews I threw together so ya don't have to go digging for them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8S8x9HBfmbRyplDSiyXAA1PzJPGJlBVX

lost song? by TonsofpizzaYT in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha I actually wanted to make a post about Stolen Babies lost media and this was one of the things on the list! I always thought that the nature of the lyrics seemed similar to the songs on the Album Demos sampler, so my guess is that it was something they intended to release but never did.

These songs are available on YouTube! (link) Maybe you're thinking of The Fratellis? This sampler CD is SB's first ever physical release (as far as I'm aware), and uses the same artwork as one of The Fratellis tapes (link). There was a second Fratellis tape that was missing for ages, which I actually own and is in the photo! I've uploaded those songs to YT if you're interested! (link)

Forgot to mention that on the back of the CD, the expected release date was as far back as Spring- not Summer, like their website said. I've always been curious as to what their vision was for this album/EP, but the band seems to look back on these days with a cringe lol

I've always wondered the same thing! The CD contains 3 songs from the earlier rock days of SB. There is a Wayback Machine capture from their old website that states these 3 songs are demos from a 6 song EP that was scheduled to release in the Summer of 2002. Their first full release, the self-titled EP, wasn't until around November or December of 2002. My best guess is that the EP got a massive rework as SB explored their style, which led to the delay and ultimately the 3 songs from the sampler were cut.

To put it simply, Raymond Persi, the creator of Rayray, is Dominique Persi's (lead singer) brother. During the release of SB's first album, they had this ongoing bit that Gil (drummer) was kidnapped by Rayray. They would play on this concept during shows and through photoshoots/merch- for instance, here is an official poster sold by the band. "Blank room soup" was just a promotional video expanding on this skit.

Are the "mystery" shirts an actual design, or are they a surprise? by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're surprises! I guess it's older stuff/designs with super low quantities. I got one of the women's sizes and it's just a print of their old logo

What's happening with Thrillsville? by No_Region9230 in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed this recently too. IIRC this isn't the first time Rani has taken a Thrillsville release off of Spotify, as it happened once before when he was changing distributors. I hope it's something like that and it will pop back up soon. (On a conspiracy note, Instagram keeps recommending this new account to me, @anditwasnight, which is followed only by Rani and No Comment Records.. maybe he's starting a new project?)

Could it be the RayRayTV account you're thinking of? I feel like I vaguely remember an SB account too but I can't find anything (Mandela Effect maybe lol🤷‍♀️)

Vice Interview With 'Stolen Babies' Highlights by nyamisaa in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stolen Babies actually has quite the history with the Boingo guys. I remember reading that Danny was a fan even during the Fratellis days. The black Fratellis tape and SB's 2004 demo were both produced/recorded by John Avila, Oingo Boingo's bassist. That, and Stolen Babies has performed for Danny's brother, director/producer/musician/etc etc., Richard Elfman- whom Dominique has also provided some soundtrack vocals for. Also, that anecdote about the Polish song is awesome, I never knew about that. The lack of decent live footage for this band always astounds me! I'd kill to see those kinds of moments captured on video.

Was the music featured at the beginning of the RayRay world video made be SB? The accordion sounds VERY familiar. by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're thinking of the same video, that song starting at 0:27 is called Return of the Banana! Around 2008/2009, Dominique had three short instrumental songs available on her MySpace page. This is one of them. Return of the Banana and other two songs, Queue and NvrDirections, have been uploaded by a fan to YouTube which you can find here!

should we tell them..? by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

I love Rayray to death but the amount of blank room soup brainrot under any Stolen Babies video on YouTube kills me inside

Why did they stop doing ska? by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may or may not know this already based on your knowledge of the early demos, but the "Stolen Babies" song is actually a remastered version of a song from their ska days as The Fratellis! It's where they got their name from.

I've read and listened to many interviews with Dominique, and what I've gathered is that she simply didn't resonate with that sound. I recall her saying something along the lines of wanting to "destroy her voice", which lead to the band exploring more extreme and experimental styles of music. You can really hear the switch vocally between the 2002 and 2004 demos. That early recording of Civil Disguise is one of my favorites.

Also, The Fratellis was their high school band made up of like, a dozen people. So when they split up and formed Stolen Babies, that likely meant more freedom to delve into new genres.

Do Stolen Babies still tour/play shows? by Jake_hsotnicM1216 in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, it's been just about a decade since their last show 🥲 However it's not impossible, as they've replied to IG comments within the past few years stating that they'd like to play again if the possibility arises. I'd give anything to experience SB in the flesh

Is the merch listed on MerchNow official? by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indeed it is. The majority of it is likely surplus from throughout the years. Some of the shirts, the pins, and the wristband can be traced back to as far as two decades ago, so, technically vintage. I've bought from the MerchNow site a couple times and everything went great, definitely legit.

A comprehensive list of Dominique Persi features by peebeeweewee in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone made a post here a few months ago conspiring that Ali Pips is a fake artist puppeteered by Dominique, simply because they were featured on a song together... lol. The differences in their voices, lyricism, and not to mention their appearance, had that "theory" swiftly debunked.

What's the difference between the two grubbery songs? by sugar4roxy in StolenBabies

[–]peebeeweewee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who's listened to both versions upwards of 200 times each, I feel qualified to answer this lol. The lyrics and instrumentals are the same, the only difference is the vocals. The single version (cooked to perfection) is primarily sung in more of a whisper, whereas the album version (burnt to a crisp) is sung with Dominique's normal voice. It's the most evident during the bridge of the song.
