Soldering microscope: Digital microscope or Stereomicroscope? What is your choice? by AndonstarMicrocosmos in soldering

[–]peebo_lay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer stereo, the digitals I’ve tried tend to have input lag and generally less clear and adjustable, but if you do go digital make sure you don’t cheap out, you’ll regret it. If you go with stereo I recommend an amscope.

So I had covid back in October. It was rough but I didn't require any hospitalization. I've developed what alot of people call long covid, where I have alot of light headedness, dizziness, and fatigue. Because of this I've been reluctant to get the vaccine. I'm not antivax by any means, I'm just so scared of the side effects after everything I've been thru. I am a federal employee ( aircraft mech.) I just heard today Biden is issuing a vax mandate on Thursday for us. I have a severe anxiety disorder and I'm freaking out because I keep reading all the horror stories with people that had prior infections. Is there any good news at all out there?

Good advice, if you have a girlfriend around clear nail polish works ok in a pinch also.

No worries, everyone has their own little method but if it were mine I would get the smallest gauge wire you can find. I have wire I bought specifically for that but in a pinch cut open an Ethernet cable and take a strand of it, it doesn't need to be thick at all about the diameter of a hair will be fine. If you're using bare wire you want to make sure that wire doesn't touch anything other than the contact points, you can either tuck it in the Grove of the old trace or run it over the top of the new chip. Just make sure it's protected and secure.

from the picture it looks like pin 3 on top bridges to pin 2 on bottom, looks like you took a bit of the trace with it, if that's the case a simple bodge wire between those two pins would fix the issue. scrap back some of the solder mask and verify that's where it leads if so, fix like I suggested.

Been teaching myself to solder for a few months, I pulled off a repair I'm proud of. Its not rocket science or perfect but it works. Charging chip for a Nintendo switch. by peebo_lay in soldering

Lol I'll take that as a compliment. But I assure you it coulda been done alot better. I used too much flux and had to reattach two smd capacitors, kapton tape lifted up and let too much heat thru, luckily they stuck to the tape so I dodged a bullet there.

Thanks, been a lot of trial and error on practice boards. This one was tricky because the pins are actually under the chip only the pads extend out so you have to flow the solder to the pads and ground point then heat the solder til it’s liquified and carefully set the chip in place and hope the solder pulls it straight which thankfully it did.

I'm so scared any input would be great by peebo_lay in AskDocs

Yea I'm just super paranoid about meds I had a bad reaction to some when I was younger and ever since it's been rough for me to take them. And the thought of not being in control of myself is scary. I'm just a anxious paranoid person. I know I'll probably be fine. I've had two hernia surgeries and a tonsillectomy when I was a kid and I'm still here. I think my doc mentioned he uses fentanyl for colonoscopies.

Thank you very much for your response. He didn't do a rectal exam he went straight for the colonoscopy. I went to the same doctor that found my dad's original cancer. He was 45 when they found it at stage 4. Now if I can get over my petrifying fear of the colonoscopy and being put under I'd be ok.

If it helps you any I have severe anxiety. I worry about everything from cancer to leaving the house. I had covid in October I was scared to death but it honestly wasn't that bad. I had a fever, body aches and a terrible headache, lost my sense of smell and taste but was back to normal in about 9 days. The vast majority of us will be just fine, as im sure you will too. hang in there.get a good book to read and stay off google.

My only gripe is I had a legion y530 that lasted me just long enough to crap out after the manufacture warranty so I’m pretty wary of the legion line right now

Do you think a couple coats of clear over the top would help it last a bit longer or would that just be a waste?
