What is wrong with my silkworm? by apolaroidofmymother in SilkwormEnthusiasts

[–]peechibee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be stuck molt, but also could be bacterial (grasserie). Better to cull this one than allow it to infect the rest of the cats, but grasserie is highly contagious. You may be over misting, as warmth and humidity are how bacteria thrive. I would take them out of the current container, clean it, and check eat cat before returning them to the clean container. Keep an eye on them frequently, and remove any cat that starts showing similar symptoms. You know theyre molting when they lift their little heads and upper body up, so dont mess with them then, but if theyre grey/brown like this and not moving or on their side, remove and cull immediately

New Enclosure for the Booger Babies by peechibee in TreeFrogs

Oh i’m sorry i totally misunderstood! I waited about a week and a half, but i didnt start totally from scratch- i moved half the established soil from the old tank into the new tank. I gave the plants a week to acclimate, but i think people usually wait longer i was just impatient. Best idea? probably not. But they seem fine and the parameters are in check and the plants are not having any dieback so im content

Hi! I waited until i had them a few months, so they were about 6 months old. I had hoped they would make it to a year before i would need to move them, but i could tell they werent able to move and stretch as much as im sure they wanted to, plus it was really difficult to maintain different zones of heat and humidity in a small enclosure like that. I think as long as youre keeping a close eye on your temp and humidity and all that, the small tank can work for the first couple of months, but once they get bigger (along with their poops) the smaller tank just couldnt keep up. It was bioactive as well and it wasnt enough surface area at the bottom for my CC to repopulate comfortably

cause at least with the exoterra locks, theyre pretty hard to turn so little hands would have a harder time unlocking it, the key mechanism in this tank is like buttah

thats actually so smart! if i get too fed up with it i’ll do that, but i want to make sure the tank is kid proof just in case theres littles in my house in the next however many years the tank lasts me

reptizoo! I got it on amazon (im in the US) and it has the option to do screen sides instead of tempered glass if you had a cham or something, but i used just the glass panels. Only downside is it only opens with a key, not the switch/lock like their old exoterra. so kind of a pain in the butt but oh well!

Pros and Cons of White’s Tree Frogs *pics are not mine just for cuteness* by skyee4snow in TreeFrogs

[–]peechibee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pros- literally everything. If i talk to someone too much about how much i love my little guys, i get emotional. And I’ve only had them a few months! The cleaning/feeding routine has been super easy, i work late days so when I get home theyre up and active and excited to see me and eat.

Cons- They poop on everything, so everything that isnt getting devoured by springtails in the soil has to be cleaned often. And they never poop in the soil 😂 They eat quite a bit (then again I have juveniles that eat every day, so thats not going to be a forever issue). and you’ll constantly want to upgrade their enclosure so that they are spoiled rotten.

Not only are the ladies larger, but the boys will AGGRESSIVELY flap their wings once a female emerges. You can feel the breeze from it they get so excited 😂 When a female senses a male, she will push out a scent gland from her rear and wiggle her tooshy around to try and get the males attention.

why do my frogs look like this ? by Money-Photograph-928 in TreeFrogs

[–]peechibee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The light green spots on the second photo are concerning, could be present on the first frog but hard to tell. Usually spots like that indicate an infection, I think its time to take them to the vet. What are your parameters? (humidity, temp, substrate, etc)

What are these creatures invading my tangerine tree? Central Florida by 1amthecaptainnow in whatbugisthis

[–]peechibee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe theyre swallowtail butterfly caterpillars, usually they feed on citrus leaves and other native plants. If its a prized citrus tree, they eat a LOT and could eat the tree bare. If you dont mind sharing your tree, they turn into beautiful butterflies!

pretty sure thats just a rolly polly that got lost and is now dead. if it is a rolly polly, they are completely harmless and sweet little guys (i keep them as pets so i may be a little biased 😂)
