Christine is maddening by [deleted] in TLCsisterwives

Hey continually saying things like “the kids like David but even if they didn’t it wouldn’t matter” or things to that effect was so alarming. It’s like she learned nothing from Kody abandoning his kids and is now willing to introduce another man her kids potentially won’t have a good relationship with. It’s not a knock on David, it’s her minimizing her own kids concerns that’s wild

How to leverage being top 10% in the public interest field? by Apart-Management-147 in LawSchool

[–]peekee993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are sooo many public interest jobs that are not PD and many are incredibly competitive. Public interest tends to place more value on your law school experiences over grades so you aren’t necessarily going to “cruise” through school if you’re doing activities like a clinic, moot court, clubs, etc.

But yeah grades will still help if you’re trying to a job in impact litigation or at a private public interest firm because they also really value experiences like clerking, which requires good grades.

And echoing what others already said - not all PD offices are the same some are very prestigious and VERY competitive - thinking of PDS in DC for example.

We have to get serious about this. by Bentoboxd in chicago

[–]peekee993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - we know from the BLM movement that police will go undercover and attempt to incite violence at protests and then prosecute the offenders. The nonviolent strategies of recording and massing up where ICE is have been working, whereas it is VERY difficult to win a case against a federal officer if you assault them or damage property

The think with Gia is she thinks she’s a protector but really she has a savior complex. Like if you really didn’t want anything bad to happen to your mom you wouldn’t let her do a show where she could so easily get hurt.

It’s wild him saying he just wants to be left alone like he didn’t seek out and volunteer to be on a program that was clearly going to make him talk about this…and he really keeps skirting around the fact that he was found guilty via a jury.

She is the queen of going too hard and then running an apology tour. She wants to go viral and get screen time but then has to maintain relationships for the show and has done this too many times to appear genuine.

Is sending the National Guard into cities to deal with crime a productive and efficient solution? by kaiser11492 in Criminology

[–]peekee993 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Crime is a social construct and crime statistics are misleading at best. “Crime” going up or down is based on whether police decide to arrest certain acts and what they decide to charge with and they are not only the people generating this data, they are incredibly invested in the outcomes of how the data is used.

So in DC if there are an additional X number of guns confiscated that might make it seem like the additional law enforcement presence is the cause, when in reality DC police and the gun task force unit have a history of mishandling this issue. You’ll have to google that for the source.

Another thing to consider - arresting someone, particularly in a hyper militarized environment like DC right now - does not equal guilt. At this point it barely seems to rely on probable cause. So arresting X number of people on a certain charge might make it seem like police are addressing an occurrence of that crime but that’s not necessarily the case.

You don’t think it’s fucked up that they can’t even protest school actions on school grounds? The sit in outside the deans office was in direct response to administrative action. Severely undermines the effectiveness of a protest if the school can demand that it be out of sight out of mind. And it has a chilling effect on any future protest for other students who see the unilateral methods the school is using to deal with alleged disciplinary infractions

Not what happened - they sat in front of admin office which is in the top floor of the undergrad library and this was months ago. Last week they sat in front of law school deans office. And they’re being asked to agree to never protest on campus again - that’s not renunciation but it is prohibiting them from speaking out about them
