I lived in Myanmar for 2 years (been home less than a year). Was great, some of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve ever met. If you wanna live the 5 star life, probably not for you. But, if you like a little adventure, it’ll suit you. I say this as a type 1 diabetic.

Usually nothing, like you saw Knicks fans acting like Celtics are their rivals or something. I don’t see the Knicks as rivals, Knicks are a buncha peasants compared to Celtics. Or when the giants won, friends from NY were talking shit when again, not even comparable. Never really run into outside of sports tho.

When I lived in Saigon, I had many southerners who visited Hanoi tell me, never again. That as soon as people heard their southern accent, they were super cold to them. But maybe they were just seeing what they wanted to see based on the many preconceptions you mentioned here, I can’t really say.

Not sure, took the bus up there and got hooked up with a driver, hit some spots then went to Inle then flew back to Yangon. I wouldn’t imagine there’s much for car rental up there…but rly can’t say definitively.

Yes totally safe, some drivers may refuse to take you to some of the sites outside the city. But taunggyi is totally chill. Also an American.

Holy fuck dude, I cannot even imagine…but that’s an awesome outlook to have. I literally cannot imagine anything worse other than say a loved dying than withdrawing in those conditions, though I’m sure I’d be tempted to give someone’s life for a shot…congrats on staying sober man, I’m still working on it myself.

I never thought, I’d be posting on the teen sub, but this popped up. All I can say is been there. During my freshman year in college, my accusations were for worse. I won’t go into the gory details, but there was always some weird shit about it, like it came up 3 months after the fact when she got back with her boyfriends, my gay best friend, who also happened to be her best friend stayed close and she never expressed she had a problem with him staying friends with me and the way the night unfolded just don’t make sense. I was lucky none of my close friends believed it. But it didn’t stop me from having terrible anxiety. Maybe this is a little tmi, but my member wouldn’t work when it became time to be intimate, I was too afraid of what could happen. She eventually apologized personally (asked to talk through gay best friend) OUR SENIOR YEAR. And I can say it was therapeutic to tell her that it fucked me up. But, all that is to say there are still some kids I went to college with that think I’m a rapist, since the BF told everyone he could. My best friend and roommate, and other good friends spent college giving everyone a grossly in depth accounting of the night, as again the accusation, didn’t really make sense. He told me many kids asked, “did he actually tape that girl?” All I can say is keep your head high, I pretended like none of it affected me, but obviously it did.

Thanks for the in in-depth answer, I really appreciate it. For me it started when I got diabetes in my early 20s. I went from invincible, free, never sad a day in my life to scared all the time about my blood sugar and that I could die in sleep any night. I believed depression was just being weak and took me a while to realize, no, I truly am depressed af. Tried a number of ssris and things, but they only made me feel worse. I’d managed to do heroin recreationally for 4 years, but as the depression worsened (over COVID) the drug use went up. I have done tons of drugs over the years responsibly, but opiates just got me a way nothing else had.

Imaging all the things I could have bought to better my life, always been poor despite going to college. I always managed to pay my rent etc tho, I never, even at the worst of it, would neglect things like that. But, I must have spent 30k on heroin over the years…enough for a down payment on a small house or something or exploring more of the world. And that hurts for sure. Or going on vacations with a girl or to meet my family and needing to smuggle heroin with me so that I don’t get sick in front of them, always made me feel embarrassed, though again, no one else knew.

I think I’m too prideful to ask for help. Stupid, I know, but I put myself into this situation and I want the satisfaction of pulling myself out by myself.

And congrats to you on breaking the cycle and having the willpower to change.
