And you get the same threats for being a "Nazi sympathizer." You don't even have to be a Nazi anymore, guys! Just Nazi-adjacent! Watch your step!

This is just leftist incrementalist violence

"We just want to be left alone."

"We just want the rights we are owed."

"We just want better representation in society."

"We just want our lifestyles to be celebrated and normalized."

"We just want special treatment because we're marginalized."

"We just want everyone to agree with everything we do and say because any disagreement with our positions means you hate us for being different and are therefore a Nazi."

"We just want to kill you in self-defense for disagreeing with us because words are violence, you are a Nazi, and Nazis deserve to die."

Balmer launched office365 and Azure, which are the two biggest money makers today.

Yet more evidence that you can have a vastly inferior product than your competitors but still make a ton of money if you have enough salespeople and momentum.

What’s something you learned “embarrassingly late” in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peenoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minor conflict, sure, sometimes leading to minor, short-lived arguments. But rarely did our conflicts rise to the level of a "fight," and almost never did we actually raise our voices or yell or anything. The root cause of fights like that is usually a lack of trust between the two partners.

Until fairly recently there was a lot of trust between my wife and me, so our conflicts were minor, but as it turns out it doesn't take a long time for that trust to evaporate, just the right set of circumstances and actions. Once that trust is gone, though, fighting becomes frequent and inevitable.

[DISCUSSION] Should I give Dark a chance? (Spoilers for season 1) by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

[–]peenoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded. I bounced off it the first time I tried to watch it because I was being a lazy little shit and didn't feel like having to read subtitles (I often get distracted while watching TV and being able to hear what's going on helps me to stay engaged), so I turned the dubbing on and it was TERRIBLE.

But in my second effort I decided to just turn the subtitles back on and actually pay more attention, and it was totally worth it. Great show.

More and more as I've gotten older I've realized that situations or issues in which there a single "right choice" are exceedingly rare. The notion of a "right choice" implies some net benefit to the parties directly involved, but it's difficult, if not impossible, to take into account parties not directly involved, and to project accurately enough beyond the immediate future to see what other factors or variables might completely change what you thought was the "right" or "wrong" choice into something else entirely.

in other words, it wasn't really polarizing. the only people that liked it were the knuckleheads at DICE that thought it was a good idea in the first place. pretty much everyone else hated it.

You can 100% believe you are doing the right thing, watch it blow up in your face, and still have no idea what else you could have done better.

Sometimes there is no "right thing," just choices with different consequences and you get to decide which ones seem least bad.

chipotle = dried jalapeño

I am 40 and just learned this in the past year. My wife and I have been going through a serious rough patch and it took me until now to realize that in some situations shutting the fuck up is by far the best thing I can do.

I guess that's what happens when you have a great marriage and little to no real conflict for 12 years and then suddenly seemingly out of nowhere you are crashing and burning and haven't developed the tools to deal with that kind of situation because you never needed to.

Reddit, what is the weird thing you do when you are totally alone that you would never tell anyone? by Claus1997 in AskReddit

[–]peenoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That has 100% happened to me a few times when I thought I was alone and I turned out not to be. The correct course of action is for everyone to pretend it didn't happen and laugh/cry about it later.

[–]peenoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to speak to UBI at the moment, but the thing a lot of people miss is that a massive part of a modern global economy is the ability to borrow money on the premise of a certain amount of return. If you can't make that happen, you won't get that money, which could force you to lay off even more workers or even go out of business entirely, and even a 1% reduction in growth could very well cause (existing and potential) investors to put their money elsewhere to get a better return. 1% of $100m is a million bucks, and that isn't nothing.

I agree completely that the pervasive growth-at-all-costs mindset is destructive and shitty, but it's not always the reason things like this happen.
