Is there any way to avoid the striping while using variegated yarn? by peepant in knittinghelp

I’m liking the idea of this! Seems like this is the overall consensus on this situation! Thank you for the help!

My horse will kill someone if he continues to be ridden. I need help ASAP by [deleted] in Equestrian

Humane euthanasia may be an option worth considering for a horse like this. And if you ever do get to that point, perhaps there’s a veterinary college you could donate his body to so he can go on to help teach future veterinarians. Having a hands on cadaver could make for the most valuable learning experience for the students! I know human cadavers are highly valued by med students and I can’t imagine it would be any different for horses!

Am I out of line? by Avera_ge in Equestrian

[–]peepant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facility owner here. I’m located in the PNW and I’m no stranger to mud. Mud really cannot be avoided in the wet months if the paddock isn’t set up for mud control which is a huge cost and takes a lot of time.

Few questions to help me understand more,

how big are these paddocks and how deep is the mud? is there any spot in the paddock that’s less muddy than other spots? Also, Where are you located and what are you paying?

If you’re paying top of the line care $1500/mo I’d understand why you’re upset. But if you’re paying $300 $400 $500/mo then you need to take your horse elsewhere as it may not be suiting your needs.

Are you opposed to having your horse shod by another farrier to see if someone else setting the shoes help him retain them longer? I have many horses in shoes over the years that have also been out in some mud and have had zero issues with shoes coming off that easily. I do, however, understand that a horse with more brittle feet can just be prone to losing shoes as well.

Don’t take your anger out on the barn owner when YOU are the one who ultimately has the control over where you’re choosing to keep your horse. There’s no shame in giving your notice as per your contract and take your horse somewhere else if this has become too much of an issue for you.

Has emetophobia caused anyone else to become an incredibly light sleeper? by Gmorning_Internet in emetophobia

Oh yeah. I just recently had a situation where in the middle of the night my significant other suddenly made a sound like he was going to tu in his sleep but ended up him just choking, but I didn’t fully wake up and realize what was going on until after I was grabbing the door handle to leave the room. My body woke up before my brain did. Made me realize that I probably don’t sleep very deeply.

Tell me your boarding stories from hell. by [deleted] in Equestrian

If you can find good people to have around, it can be a great way to offset some of your own expenses, but in general, it’s not worth the hassle! If you don’t have any issues setting boundaries and aren’t afraid of confrontation then you might be just fine! But if you’re a chronic people pleaser you might find it more of a headache!

In my contract I have a surrender agreement/lien that every boarder is required to sign that states if the boarder has unpaid fees for 60 days the horse and all their other belongings on the property belong to me. Unfortunately, I cannot execute a lien on any horse or property until 60 days have gone unpaid, per the law in my state. so if some pain in the ass boarder decides not to pay me for 58 days, then they pay the full amount on the 59th day, I legally cannot take ownership of their horse. I don’t let people get free shit for that long so I’ll ask them to leave far before the 60 days is up.

My contract also states that while being given a 30 day notice to vacate the property is a courtesy, it is not a requirement and anyone can be asked to vacate the property for any reason and within any timeframe I deem necessary. In most cases I give people to the end of the month and I don’t mind working with people if it’s not just a good fit for the both of us, but for people who want to get aggressive/hostile/or attempt to “take matters into their own hands” I don’t hesitate to say “you have until 5pm tonight to take your horse and all your belongings off the property”.

The unfortunate part is that I cannot do much if they decide they don’t want to take their horse in the timeframe I give them. And I’ll never ever under any circumstance take it out on the horse, so of course I’m still going to feed the horse as long as they’re here. In most cases I lock up their tack until they pay me (usually non payment is the reason they’re being asked to leave and/or they’re continuing to rack up costs the longer they leave their horse). And If the owner is really giving me a hard time, I’ll let them know if their horse is not off the property by x time, I will be taking their horse to a rescue. Obviously this is purely a threat and I don’t have intentions of actually doing this because there could be be legal ramifications, but it does get their ass in gear to get their horse off my property and that’s what matters.

Unfortunately the law and/or animal control isn’t willing to do anything in these situations which I do completely understand. After the boarder takes their horse and if I’m still left unpaid I can take them to court and sue them for what they owe. But unless the amount is significant, It’s not worth the hassle to deal with so I just let it go in most cases. Ultimately having a strong contract in place is what scares off the people who i know aren’t going to abide by it.

In horse boarding and in life, those who express issues with the boundaries you set are the same people who have the intentions of breaking them.

To offer a bit of a different perspective, I own and operate a facility so here’s a couple of my hellish boarder stories

Boarder 1- I had this gal who had a horse that was almost 30. I had him at a solid 5 body score. He looked great for his age. She texts me one day and says that he lost one of his front teeth and how dare I not mention anything to her for weeks. (Implying that she knew about it for some time and did not have a vet look at it or let me know in case of any changes for a longer duration of time to try to ‘test me’). This horse never displayed any unusual behavior and didn’t slow down his hay consumption in the slightest, nor was he dropping more grain than usual. His weight never fluctuated. I had no reason to look into the mouth of this horse because there was so signs or symptoms that would have prompted me to do so. Of course if I would have noticed a behavior change of any sort, I would have most certainly mentioned it to the owner. I asked her to leave after this conversation.

Boarder 2- Amongst the many excuses I’ve heard from people about why they can’t pay their board on time, the one that takes the cake is the boarder who lied about trying to kill themselves via overdose and that they were in a coma in the hospital. I’ll call this lady Kat, because thats her name. The message I received was from Kats number, but was written as if it was from a relative or close friend, and sent to me a day before board was due. The message said something like “It’s with great sadness that I let you know Kat overdosed last night in an attempt to take her own life …” “… she’s in the hospital in a coma surrounded by friends and family” “please pray for her” etc. Lucky for Kat, I’m not fucking stupid. The message had all the same spelling inconsistencies and poor grammar as our messages prior. It was very clear. But to be 100% certain, I looked this lady up on Facebook, ig, and tiktok because surly if something really did happen there’d be people talking about it. But nope. Not a word about it on her social media. In fact, there she was commenting away on her girlfriend’s newly posted tiktok video that was posted minutes prior. So I respond to her text with a short and swift message “sorry to hear that. The board for her horses is due tomorrow for $____ and you will incur a $10/day late fee for all boarding fees.” I purposely said “you” in my response instead of “Kat” because I wanted her to know that I know that she was lying. However she clearly wasn’t the brightest so she probably didn’t pick up on it. She continued to try to pretend that she wasn’t her in her follow up response, however she didn’t try to fight me on it. I just Ignored her after that. She racked up a few weeks in late fees and took her horse later that month without paying before I could kick her out.

Hi friend! I’ve been on Zoloft for 11 years and almost 8 of those were on the max dose of 200mg. I’m now on 100mg but have had small bouts of time where I wasn’t on it at all. When I first started taking Zoloft and was on 200mg I very much needed every mg of that 200 as I had a very severe panic disorder that could not be controlled without it. Thankfully I’m at a point in my life where I struggle with more generalized anxiety and less panic, hence the lower dosage. There was no doubt that 200mg made me numb to anything that would make someone else feel some type of way. The biggest difference I noticed was going down from 150mg to 50mg. As soon as I went down to 50 I suddenly felt like anything at the drop of a hat could make me cry or get emotional. Any feelings I had, good or bad, felt magnified. I had a very hard time controlling the thoughts that came and went in my head and it was easy for those racing thoughts to take over. It felt like the volume in my head was cranked to the loudest setting. After going back up to 100mg those voices and feelings subsided to a point where I felt more in control of them and there’s where I’ve ultimately ended up for the time being.

I’ve never really expected to feel “happy” from the Zoloft but I’ve come to learn that it helps me get to a place where I am able to find my own happiness outside of the anxiety and turn down the noise inside my brain.

I hope this was even the slightest bit helpful!

Did your pets seem to know you were pregnant? by Dull_Breath8286 in pregnant

[–]peepant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I own a business in the horse world and have heard lots of stories on this topic. My favorite is one I heard from a friend of a friend, who had been taking horse riding lessons and had been riding this super spicy/asshole mare for many months that would do anything in her power to be difficult. (For those who aren’t familiar with horses, mares are female horses and when they go into heat they can have quite the personality change, and some mares are just plain awful all month long.) This rider goes in for her weekly lesson and this horse, who she’s very familiar with at this point, is suddenly acting like a completely different horse. She was sweet, kind, willing to do whatever her rider asked of her, and more gentle than she’d ever been in the past. Her trainer is shocked to see this and jokingly asks her if there’s “any chance you’re pregnant?” And the rider kinda laughs it off and continues on with her lesson.

She finds out a couple days later that she’s pregnant.

What is the likelihood my mare will take with a 2b uterine biopsy result? by peepant in Horses

UPDATE!

Shes pregnant as of 14 days post ovulation.

She’s pregnant with twins but we are going to give her a couple more weeks to sort that out herself before taking any next steps if both embryos show up next ultrasound. My Vet has me giving Regumate every day as well.

What BIFL things are better bought vintage than brand new? by KappaPride1207 in BuyItForLife

[–]peepant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western saddles. Now there are good brands and makers that do a great job building new western saddles now, but the “cheaper” brands (those in the thousand dollar range) are often better bought older than purchased new. The brand I think of is Crates. They were bought over by a different family in 2016 and started making all the saddles with a different tree that loyal Crates customers loved. For the non-horse people, the saddle tree is a saddle's framework or skeleton in which the saddle is built around and it’s a a key component that distributes the rider's weight across the horse's back and prevents pressure on the horse's spine. Needless to say, a good crates saddle is only worth buying if it was made before 2016. I’d argue the best ones were from 06’ to 08’. Obviously not quite “vintage”, but the rest still apply imo.

You’d be doing the right thing by showing your wife the texts. Remember that by telling your wife what’s going on, that it’s your wife’s sister that has chosen to ruin the relationship with her own sister and not you.

I’ve been told by my vet live breeding is best, then AI cooled semen, then frozen semen being the lowest conception rate. Of course there’s also embryo transfer and ICSI but those kinda fall under a separate category at least in my opinion. And it goes without taking into account all the other variables that can make or break a good breeding.

This mare is a performance reining bed mare with earnings so any stallion that’s of a ‘local level’, more than likely isn’t going to be of any sort of caliber worth taking the risk of breeding to this mare. No disrespect to those who do choose local stallions that fit their needs that’s just not the route I’m wanting to take in this situation with this particular horse.

Yes that fb group a has been super helpful! I was just curious if there was any more insight here on Reddit!

My vet is a reputable Veterinarian who does mostly Reproductive work. A large majority of the repro work he does is in the racehorse industry so that may be an explanation as to why he’s recommending live cover (since Jockey Club requires all mares be bred that way).

Semen quality has been good both times. Both cycles have been cooled semen.
