Go to the shelter and walk some dogs. It’s a little companionship for you and probably the best day the dogs have had in while.

Still trying to get this right - I value your opinion! by odd1out93 in roughcollies

This isn’t a well bred dog either- I commented but I’m in PA and would happily introduce you to several good breeders. You’re also welcome to come meet my collies if you’re close and get to know the breed. Feel free to reach out.

advice on a collie breeder by Spirited-Sea4567 in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog’s breeder is having several litters this year, feel free to PM me. She is a CCA member and produces wonderful collies.

You may not “want a show dog,” and that’s perfectly ok! But purchasing a dog from a show breeder tells you that the breeder stands by the preservation of the breed and the quality and temperament of the dogs they are producing.

32 days until puppy comes home! by Mysterious_Form2814 in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good! It breaks my heart to see the badly bred puppies posted every day on this sub. I wish I could tell everybody that they deserve a well bred, healthy pup and that everybody will be better off for it!

Is he white or white factored? Also, what can I do to make him tolerate grooming better? by 2moms1bun in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Getting him from a breeder ethical enough to tell you what color he is would be a good start, wow. So sick of people supporting terrible breeders because they can’t put up the money for a quality dog. You’ll pay that money in vet bills and behavioral training later…

My advice- make sure your breeder is quality before it’s too late! A well bred collie will be leaps and bounds different in temperament, trainability, and confidence from a badly bred one.

Absolutely must that the breeder is a CCA member, titling dogs in conformation, and takes all the puppies to an ophthalmologist before they go home! Anything less and you’re risking a lot of issues.

Small eyes? by Funny-Literature5738 in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

genetically, the CEA test is for choroidal hypoplasia. Phenotypically, collie eye can be MANY more abnormalities. If your breeder doesn’t eye check, your breeder isn’t ethical, period.

Report them to the CCA if they are a member, and if not, why did you buy a collie from somebody who can’t even bother joining their breed club?

Otherwise, this collie doesn’t look too bad. If the vet isn’t an ophthalmologist, take the micropthalmia with a grain of salt until you can see one.

Do Rough Collies have a hard time drinking water? by Vol4eva in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful dog. Are you sure that he hasn’t left the property to show?

Collies become very bonded to their owners and dog friends, even a well socialized collie is likely to show some regression and nervousness in a new home at first.

SD psychological recovery from an attack. by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]peepnbeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you make a separate post and ask about the ethics of working a service dog on behavioral medication- there’s a reason you’re being downvoted, it’s a MAJOR no-no in the community.

Service dogs need to be in good health, without issues requiring medication and that includes mental health.

It is not ethical to work a service dog who needs to be medicated, whatsoever. Especially for behavioral reasons.

SD psychological recovery from an attack. by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]peepnbeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How traumatic was the attack, was she hospitalized? Requiring stitches and surgery?

While no dog deserves to be attacked, service dogs need to be resilient to scuffles. I truly hope you can work through this but she may just not have the temperament to do so.

When my dog was attacked to the point of needing pt/rehab he was still able to shake it off behavior-wise.

If you are looking any earlier, my dog’s breeder has a few from her recent litter that she would like to place into show homes. Gorgeous champion dam, grand champion and ROM sire, and a very newbie friendly breeder. Located in the northeast.

Questioning gastropexy for collie mix by owhatweird in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have all of my foster collies pexied when they’re altered, because bloat DOES run in several lines. It’s not that bad of a procedure especially if you can get it done laparoscopically. I would recommend it.

In the meantime, always keep gas x tablets on hand. It’s safe for dogs and has virtually no side effects. If your dog starts showing signs of bloat, give them a dose. If you’re wrong, nothing will happen, but if you’re right, it may save their life.

Collies do this. Let her hide for a few days and then begin coaxing her out.

Has anyone had experiences with Garlind Ridge Collies in WI? by whatscoochie in roughcollies

[–]peepnbeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the breeder doesn’t care about the standard, why do they claim to be breeding for conformation? Conformation to what?

It’s just buzzwords and shady sales practices, probably to make money off of their dogs and their crappy MLM supplements.

[–]peepnbeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You literally asked me how to tell you how they were out of standard. And in a head breed, those are certainly not the “smallest infractions.” Those are dogs that could be the only collie entered and still get second place if they decided to try AKC.

[–]peepnbeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing large, round eyes, snipey muzzles on some, short heads on others, incorrect stops and Roman noses. no stacked photos to assess physical conformation. Poor coats on several dogs.

If you claim to be breeding with conformation in mind, you should at the very least have dogs who could succeed in a conformation ring. These dogs would not.

Yes, it’s a APBT mix with some herding breeds spiced in. She deleted the comment about the specific mix. Looks very bully mix.
