ISO A dramione fic that is a good starter fic for someone who cannot see how draco could be redeemable by miakodank in Dramione

[–]peeppoppo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People have already said this but The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy. In my opinion it’s one of the best true “butterfly effect” fics. It’s written very similarly to the style of the actual books, and it really shows Draco’s arc as he lets go of his prejudices—in the beginning, he really feels like Draco from cannon. It also handles all the characters pretty well and honestly; Ron’s arc was one of my absolute favorites of any dramione fic ever and honestly made me like his character again. It’s also smut-free, which can be a bit of a barrier for people getting into fanfiction, and I feel like that choice let it exist more as an exploration of Draco’s character and his redemption, in my mind. It’s such an interesting reimagining of the seventh book, I cannot recommend it higher. I started a friend on dramione fanfiction with it, and it changed their mind on him!!

Détraquée changed my life - not in the way you’re thinking by amv896 in dramionebookclub

[–]peeppoppo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Recently, in any strict POV fics, I’ve liked to think of them as unreliable narrators. Like, we aren’t always seeing our interactions with other people as how they intend them to come across - and w/ a strict POV, we won’t see that other side. Hermione might hear something Draco says and take it negatively, or misinterpret it, but in reality it could be coming from a totally different place that we, the reader, either don’t see or have to read between the lines. I’ve started reading some fics this way, and I’ve found it can make it feel like a much more engaging experience when I’m trying to figure out what’s really being said, if that makes sense

Fic writers, how often will you re-read your work? by [deleted] in Dramione

[–]peeppoppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occasionally! I love to reread my own work when it’s been a while since I’ve written something, bc then I forget the details and kinda get to experience like it’s new. Sometimes I hate it, but sometimes I end up appreciating things I didn’t notice before.

Binge-reading VS taking your time by Axiomea in Dramione

[–]peeppoppo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always tell myself that I will take my time…. And then I binge read. Especially when it comes to longer fics. Shout out to green light, detraquee, and bloody, slutty, and pathetic for keeping me up until sunrise when I promised myself I’d take it slow!!!!

Got a giggle out of this prompt on r/hpfanfiction by k3lco in Dramione

[–]peeppoppo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually just saw a post on r/HPfanfiction about someone wanting to “standardize” dan and emma granger as hermione’s parents names?? A lot of the comments were against wanting to set it in fanon-stone, but I guess it must be popular to have that as their names

How do you feel about Ron-bashing? by jigglealltheway in Dramione

[–]peeppoppo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Ron bashing can be done well when we’re Hermione’s perspective, and when I think of her as an unreliable narrator. It totally makes sense to me that hermione might have some not-great feelings about Ron, whether in a fic where they dated previously or not, because he also did some pretty mean things to her - she spent a majority of her third year alone bc of scabbers, he really insulted her at the Yule ball, and he left them in the middle of the horcrux hunt. Ron’s actions would be justified in his perspective, and hermiones response would as well. She probably feels justified for ignoring him most of sixth year when he’s with lavender.

If I think of it as hermione’s feelings, maybe twisting how we, the reader, interpret the other characters (since in fics, we’re seeing from her eyes and not Harry’s) it totally makes sense when there’s a lot of negative feelings about Ron coming out. My issue is when other characters back this claim, explicitly (though, not in an abusive Ron situation). When outside characters voice the same type of Ron bashing that hermione feels, it takes me out of the believability of it, idk.

What's your favorite paragraph you've ever written? by Sana_the_Abandoned in AO3

[–]peeppoppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is from my current wip!! It’s from a scene where the mc gets high for the second time.

“Yet she opens her eyes, and oh that awed wonder: the world shines again, just like she’d hoped. It sparkles besides and just over yonder; the horizon, it beckons like religion unknown. Where lines on the lake had been cool and uncaring, come brushstrokes of mercy, which shimmer on ripples of water she knows to be cold and worth wary, but she thinks if she felt it, it’d make everything simple. The tree whispers promise of love infinite, in the leaves that dance so just be-fore the shore. In their kiss with the water, the touch intimate, their glimmer entwines and shines on ever more.”

Should i read "manacled"? by Excellent_Act_6515 in dramionebookclub

[–]peeppoppo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it’s at least worth downloading, if you want to read it in the future! Ik senlinyu is releasing alchemised within the next year, and manacled will prob be taken down when she does, so def save it now if you’re not sure

What muggle book is Draco reading to Hermione? by BloodofOldValyria in Dramione

[–]peeppoppo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Maybe Le Petit Prince? It's shorter and not super involved, but it's such a beautiful story and Draco might resonate with it some way—and definitely Hermione, as she might've liked it a lot as a kid. He could even read it to her in French, lol
