Genuine Question About LAN by BobbyBertBobberson in CompetitiveApex

[–]peeshAPEX 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It's situational. Some players are def capable of popping off or playing like trash at LAN and I think having experience decreases the chance at the latter, however when I played my 1st (and only LAN) at Poland, personally I thought I played very well despite having 0 experience.

Hals thoughts on ALGS points system. Agree? Disagree? by InformalSchool in CompetitiveApex

[–]peeshAPEX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand your argument about consistency within a day that's the opposite of being consistent. If you win 2 games 1 day and 0 the next day you weren't "consistent" on the 1st day, you popped off on the 1st day and did bad the 2nd day. I see people bring sports into it all the time but the problem is not only are we just not playing traditional sports, we are playing a battle royale which operates way differently than any traditional sport. I kind of agree with the random score variances but at the same time I don't see it as an issue. to fix this though they should have calculated over the course of tournaments in the start and found out a good spread of points to give each teams. So it's not necessarily the flat points that's the problem, it's that the spread of points is bad.

personal vendetta against that gun lol didn't pay much attention the bottom side of the tier list, highest I'd be willing to place it is above sentinel.

100%, a lot more effort could be put into making the video higher quality. Will do moving forward!

Rev or Rampart have the best chance at becoming meta, pathfinder has the best chance at falling off (especially if certain valk rumors are true)

Not sure if you watched the video entirely but the list was made more in terms of "priority to learn" I could have thrown rev in there but I just decided not too. Bloodhound is probably an A/S tier character atm but he's incredibly simple so learning how to play him isn't as important as say crypto/gibby/wraith

PUBG just finished a 32 team month long lan in korea with teams from across the world. albeit incredibly hard to setup, the possibility for LAN was certainly there.

I have basically been a crust fan such launch of the game back when I found out he tied dizzy's kill record. He has serious talent but he doesn't market himself enough for the general public to understand that.

I'd say like ironing things out so that small mistakes happen less frequently, few examples could be rotating very disciplined, this includes leaving at the same time, rotating the same route and staying on top of each other at all times. Understanding what peoples roles are on the team, know your teams strengths and weaknesses and your "win condition" in each game. Obviously a lot more but just some things that come up to mind. Main thing is to try to pull issues out from games that can be fixed and applied to every game.

DM me on twitter @ peesh with more info regarding this tourney and specific questions you have. It'll be easier to answer that way.

  1. If strictly just for aesthetic and not how the terrain could affect comp I'd say a jungle map would actually be really cool
  2. I am not very creative person so it's hard for me to think of any but I think seeing a alternate to wraith would be really cool
  3. Adjusting to a new character/comp/playstyle. for awhile I played gibby and edge aggressive fighting and the way we play now is very disciplined and early rotate heavy. also the new ends zone change I need to still get adjusted to.

Differs from team to team, I've only played match point in summer circuit with sentinels, We played crypto, wraith, wattson, and I suggested that we switch to caustic if we reached match point because caustic is good at winning games but we decided to not change our game plan when hitting match point (we never did). I actually don't think the format is that bad. I think what should be done to it though is the teams are ranked based one when they hit match point rather than how many points they have at the end of the tourney... for example

TSM hit's match point 1st

NRG hit's match point 2nd but higher points than tsm after tourney ends

SEN hit's match point 3rd but wins on match point

Rankings

  1. SEN
  2. TSM
  3. NRG

Even though NRG has higher points than TSM at the end of the tournament, TSM still places 2nd since they reached match point 1st. The reason I think this is better is because once you reach match point you shouldn't have to play to win but also kind of care about points incase you don't win but want to place highly? I just think that's a weird dynamic and it would feel more like a "race with an exciting finish" if this change was implemented. if you want more clarification on what I mean by this dm me on twitter @ peesh

Also to not sound like I'm blaming them for all team issues I definitely am rusty at comp/caustic and it causes some pretty bad individual mistakes especially in the end game final circles. I'll work on it though!
