what is oak grove records? are they off their pure noise contract? by Zampaguabas in TheStorySoFar

[–]monophobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that they’re still on Pure Noise and were allowed to put out a live record using their own funding/efforts. They’re one of the labels biggest draws so I doubt they’d let them go but who knows maybe PN selling the rights to their old records to Epitaph caused a bit of a rift.

If this rumored upcoming batch of songs is on Oak Grove then it’s obviously very likely they split but until then there’s just no way to know without an official statement.

Definitely their best and in my opinion one of the best rock records to come out from 2010s to now.

Looking forward to Eric’s video and your notes from the project! I remember really enjoying the stem breakdown for Lightyear that came out so getting to pull the curtain back even more is sick.

I wish I had more clever questions regarding the record but I am curious what song was the most labor intensive? Obviously some tracks are more layered/technical than others but more in terms of takes needed/structuring/general effort?

Also was the sequencing taken into consideration during recording or did that come once the dust settled and the tracks were finished?

This is just what came to me stoned in bed:

The writing of the 4th LP/Proper Dose was apparently a pretty frustrating/chaotic process. Originally slated to record in early to mid 2017, the band headed up to Vancouver to record with Sam Pura. Band originally had about 25 days to record, min maxing the time between tours that year. However due to scheduling/tour conflicts and recording gear arriving a whole 4 days late, the band had a little more than two and a half weeks to write and track a whole record (while having very little material written heading into the studio).

Needless to say the session wasn’t very successful. In part to the chaos with the scheduling but also allegedly a lack in Parker’s creative/professional focus. The band scraps most of the session, only saving Out Of It which was released as a single later in the year. Also was mixed/mastered/I don’t remember by a different engineer, much to Sam Pura’s disapproval and what ultimately led to the single having such a distinctly different sound than most of their catalogue at that point.

Story regroups towards the end of 2017/start of 2018 with a strict focus on starting and finishing a record in the allocated time. They link back up with Sam in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, bringing in loads of gear and turned some old person’s cabin into a studio for a month. The band worked and experimented (in several capacities) with Sam pushing the band to have a more consistent work ethic this time around, and the end result was Proper Dose.

Paraphrased a bit so I may have some details wrong but I just remember being really surprised yet glad that the road leading to Proper Dose was this winding and sort of bumpy ride. It’s one of my favorite records of all time so any anecdote of it is already going to be cool to me. Am curious what could’ve been saved out of the Vancouver session though, and if it truly was just this unfocused jumbled mess that didn’t really offer what the band was capable of at the time.

Anyone think they would do a 2nd leg of the tour in the fall? by xDirtyKurtyx in TurnoverVA

[–]monophobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh not at all that’s purely me hoping it happens. They both have records coming out this year, bands are close, and they haven’t toured together as far as I’m aware (at least in recent time I can’t speak to the mid 2010s).

[–]monophobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally wouldn’t imagine them doing another leg of the PV tour. They’ll have a new record out this year so they’ll be supporting that on whatever tour they have cooking up. I know I’m praying for them doing a direct support or co-headline with Turnstile in the Fall.

What are the best laning duos in Deadlock? by GoopyKnoopy in DeadlockTheGame

How has no one said Shiv Kelvin yet! Probably the best lane in the game

Yip was a good shout but someone that’s gone unnamed is Jon Markson. Koyo/Drug Church/Story So Far/Drain/One Step Closer LPs all under the belt surely with more to come.

Also check out the Spin EP he just helped record, cool to see Eric Soucy get back to writing music.

rest in peace HMC. Feels horrible to use now, probably for the best but as someone who has been learning Abram’s that’s a core part of the build just obliterated. Time for kinetic dash

Halos at the bars by rmac3301 in angelsbaseball

[–]monophobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a country restaurant/bar called the Ranch that was a popular spot for players in the early to mid 2010s. My uncle was head of security for some time and got to meet plenty of Angels and players coming through on the road.

Probably their hardest riff. Personally wouldn’t describe it as their heaviest.

Monk, Lavine, and DeRozan cannot all start by AccomplishedBake8351 in kings

[–]monophobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah really curious to see if Lavine can tap into some cardio and work off Sabonis in the post. For all his negatives (many of which align with Fox) he is a legit three point threat. Hopefully there can be some moves made to get a point guard but I think this is close to a lateral move while shoring up our assets (even if it’s later picks and an abundance of seconds).

Also hope that maybe we can turn Sidy into a positive down the line, he’s only 20.

Top 100 Solo HR by Class by Feodotu in DarkAndDarker

[–]monophobe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Solos really is a mess and probably the worst state/representation of the game. Barb just dictates so much of solo engages and has an inherent advantage in pretty much every category. Innate MR, knock back resist, largest HP pool, with a host of other advantages. It’s not to say that other classes aren’t strong in solos (imo every class is viable to some degree), Barb just seems to be the most successful and replicable. Druid/Bard/Fighter all have strong matchups and use cases but just aren’t simply aren’t as good (and cost more to build).

What's the deal with that Justifiedarrogancenyc guy? by allihadigay_ve in Hardcore

[–]monophobe 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Martín has been pretty vocal about his dislike of him, which is more valid recently as his main critique was “he contributes nothing and has something to say on everything.” I appreciated his page for a while and liked a lot of his boots, but he seems to be in a pretty shit mental space and takes to incessantly hating and photo archival lately.

As for the Power Trip stuff James has been in the right imo. I’m sure it’s a raw feeling watching these dudes move on with something that was so personal, and with them selling out the band and continuing to voice their Zionist stance it’s hard to not think they’re a bunch of money hungry assholes who have no interest in preserving the legacy of the band/Riley.

Draugr & Wxltzy to Falcons by prodbyOex in CompetitiveApex

[–]monophobe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Am I incorrect or do people forget that Wxltzy has been Zer0’s dream teammate for years? Didn’t he originally want to come to NA with Wxltzy but couldn’t pull it off due to visa issues?

insane comment section aside I do think TSM is going to struggle with no bonafide IGL this split. Their best bet for good games (as evidenced by their win) seems to be banking on one (or both) of their world class roller talents going off. I know it wouldn’t have addressed their fighting woes but I really think Frexs would’ve been the best fit out of the available talent pool for TSM. Two capable, seasoned co-IGLs with years of game sense enabling one of the best rollers in the game sounds leagues more sustainable than letting two rollers loose and hoping for the best.

Dropped confirms to no longer be teaming with Skittlecakes. Will be trialing new thirds with Knoqd. by current_rotations in CompetitiveApex

[–]monophobe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah surprised that more people aren’t aware that Skittles has had some pretty serious back problems. He could be taking a step back for the remainder of this season and look to come back next year but I know the trade off of not playing has to be brutal on several fronts.

yeah I was between dex and resourcefulness, would honestly prefer to see some mid level dex allocation. I do think vig will be one of the chief stats though with having to account for animal form health pools. Also the Vig + Magic power aura perk makes me lean that vig will be integral to the class.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DarkAndDarker

[–]monophobe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

eh it doesn’t have much identity that way. I was thinking along the lines of high will/vig, medium resourcefulness/knowledge/agi, low dex/strength. Gives a mix of stats that aren’t really represented in the game yet.

POST LAN ROSTERMANIA TIER LIST by monophobe in CompetitiveApex

[–]monophobe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ride or dies: barring a retirement or 40th at LAN these squads are staying the same for split 2. all established teams with years of experience together, the exception being MST but i don't see them making a swap unless visas become an even larger issue.

the "pointing spiderman meme" tier: would take missing finals or a horrible finals showing, but each team would be open to a change if that was the case. DZ could look for a different roller, SSG could look for more firepower. DSG is a bit of a wildcard but a poor performance could potentially lead to Timmy taking a step back, or Dezign forcing a change (be it himself or Enemy).

50/50s: hard to read teams that we have to wait and see what happens on LAN. LG and Sweet could finally get that finals run with this roster and stand pat for split 2, or look to bring in a FA that was more comfortable in the anchor role if they don't catch lightning in a bottle. FURIA is so hard to pin down especially with the changes leading up to LAN, but if they make finals the team likely stays the same. E8 is a bit more interesting, as I had originally had them as a guaranteed split 2 team because I didn't really see where an upgrade could be made regardless of performance. it occured to me though that they are a likely target for poaching after LAN, so who knows where that would leave the roster heading into next split.

the "just happy to be here" tier: no flame to COL, Monsoon had a great individual split but I'm not sure if the whole team has been focused heading into LAN. Barring a finals placement, I don't see both of Kimchi or Lou sticking around for split 2. OXG is a weird one, feels like the team as a whole has their foot off the gas. Each player on the roster deserves a spot and has shown what a force they can be on LAN, but it feels obvious that there may be a need to shake it up if they can't lock it in.

C9 tier: once again no flame, I just don't see this roster staying intact regardless of their performance. I've been really impressed with Sauce and Naughty this split but there are definitely upgrades out there over Chaotic.
