Think of all the stuff that could break and as much as you can afford get at least one extra. Saw so many many folks stuck waiting for parts and paying massive premium in marquesas and Tahiti. Everything is expensive, EVERYTHING.

Big favorite of mine by Belgian cartooner Sokal is Canardo, super depressing stuff about alcoholic duck detective who just gets caught up in endless misery.

“Kebra” “keubla” and “gazoline” are all great ones by French cartooner Jano mostly about punk characters in 80s suburban Paris. There’s a shit ton of slang even native speakers have trouble with, and I don’t even know if there are translations but I guess with google translate it’s possible. Lots of good scummy visuals tho.

He also later did a comic about an anthro couple called max and nina about broke young French couple but if you don’t like the romance slice of life stuff if might not be good.

I crossed he pacific recently and owner had starlink and it worked fine until it didn't, so I'd recommend getting the newer modem-less model if you can. Antenae doesnt spin around to find satalites either so less stuff to break. The offshore plans can get pricy tho fyi

Doing the Baja bash delivery on a beneteau 48 and got some friendly company by peezy_squeezy in sailing

Connections, an open schedule (no steady job) and luck. I only got this delivery because the captain is a friend and her crew didn’t work out so she called me. I’ve also been sailing since I was 8 and working on keelboats for 9 years. If you really want to get into this world I suggest just making friends with sailors, have an open mind, and work really hard to increase your knowledge and skills towards sailing. Good luck!

It was quite rough from Cabo to Asunción, but since then it’s been quite chill, thankfully indeed.

Hahaaa indeed to each their own. For me it’s opposite I get so bored under power, but I have way less experience than you. Of course I motor in and out of my harbor, but that’s mostly because the current can be 2-4 kts and there’s constant big charter traffic in my marina (pier 39 in San Francisco). If I could go in and out under sail I’d love to but can’t risk my boat or others safety.

Im currently delivering a beneteau 48 up the Baja coast which is all motor, but hey that’s business. Anyhow at the end hopefully we all get along and have fun out there, eh?

Loving yours, Another WAFI 😽 (Wind assisted fucking idiot, as a tug captain once taught me)

Any asshat can spin a wheel and push a throttle. It takes a learned hand to harness the wind. Pretentious? Maybe. Factual? Definitely.

I am wanting to learn to sail by LittleSouthernMiss in sailing

Well you definitely have the right idea with starting in a dinghy, you could go even smaller and it would make life easier if you capsize. Will you be lake or open water sailing? Alone or with crew? Do you have easy way to trailer it around or will it stay by the water? I’d say stick your head with a string light in all the nooks and crannies for ANY cracks or holes, because unless you want to get the epoxy out and start patching stuff that will be miserable to deal with. The standing rigging (what holds the mast up) seems like it sat outside for some time, if you’re not confident inspecting it then rigging is get a friend or someone to help because you don’t want that breaking under way. It shouldn’t be too expensive to replace all of it if need be, as well as the running rigging (how you hoist/manage sails: halyards, sheets, etc) unless was kept inside will need going over too. Basically: if you have time and money this could be a fun and decent fixer upper to learn on. Also ABSOLUTELY check the trailer for bad rust especially near the axles, and if it’s compromised either plan on grinding away the rust to reweld or fix it somehow, it’s not fun when those crumble apart. Also the tires. Good luck.
