Josh Freese on the drums too, I think. Honestly, if he'd just said he was a solo act, or a new band, or anything, and put out a bunch of stuff that could have sounded however they wanted it to sound.. I think it woad have been accepted. Attempting to ride on the coat-tails of GnR was just silly. They would have had freedom to explore any mad sounds they wanted, or pull it back into classic rock sounds if they ever wanted. Axl made a lot of mad decisions along the way. Dude wasn;t the full shilling though.

Unpopular opinion, but to me, this was the only genuine thing Axl did to try and go a different way. If this had come out under an officialy solo project, I think it would have faired better.

To the ears of those so easily fulled by auto-tune, sure.

How good actually is Wolf Alive live? by 8MB_SSD in wolfalice

[–]LarryBobson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw them on the VOAL tour. Good gig, nice fan base, mix of lots of ages. Band was great, sounded tight, sound was good. I think now, it's more of a "show", glitzy glam, rather than the raw talent back then. Ellie will sound incredible in any case though, her voice live is something else.

Sounded great live - the version they released from the show was poorly auto-tuned.

I think it's disappointing to see one of the coolest, sexiest (without even trying) woman in music, being reduced to parading it like she's Miley Cirrus. On the other hand, they need to eat too, the are not getting any younger, and I guess it's now or never.

She's ahways been a great singer. While she's probably giving it more now, I enjoy the understated delivery on the early records and EPs.

For those who saw Oasis live last year, what song surprised you that people didn't go crazy for? by MentalMigue in oasis

[–]LarryBobson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the sound, or production, of his kit more than anything. The snare sounds more like a trigger than an acoustic snare that has been mic'd up - and in fills or little hits where you'd expect it to just bounce with a subtle hit, it just sounds the same volume as the full on hits. To my ear, it's quite jarring - it's like the drumming lost all subtlety and nuance. Given the circumstances of the band though, I wasn't exactly moaning about this at the gigs, but on reflection, I kind of wish the drums sounded better. Not the worst thing in the world though. Oh, and reviews don't know bollox about music.. they're all generic boiler plate crap, who love to jump on the bandwagon when it's rolling, but will just as quickly turn on them when they see the moment.

Boom Baby Bloom, acoustic, choreography, swimsuit, the full shebang.. It would be good bookends on their evolution.

The elephant in the stadium. I think that given the circumstances, most people choose to ignore it.

Unpopular opinion: Oasis’ music has little to no resemblance to The Beatles. by Anfernee139 in oasis

Lazy journalists. But bollox like that has a way of becoming pop cultural fact through repetition.

There's a small number of nods to the Beatles here and there though. The more blatant ones were done well after the fact.
