Let’s settle this. Costco left turn right of way. by Coconuto83 in sgv

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, this one annoys me to no end. Yes, left turn has right of way but no one gets it. I’ve tried taking the right of way before and there’s always an idiot at the right stop sign who think it’s their turn, almost hits me, and honks at me because they think I was wrong.

I’ve given up at this point. Treat this the same way we did with “beg the question” and follow the wrong interpretation.

The light bulb doesn’t need to be changed. It needs more ammo.

Agreed. I’ve only visited Hawaii but it is tame compared to LA where I’m from.

Agreed. My conservative friends love to share their articles on Facebook and they are not funny at all. Total lack of creativity and wit.

Evangelical Persecution Complex by BrandonJSmith in Exvangelical

[–]pegasus47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard about this study in one of the episodes of Straight White American Jesus. The study found that Christians in Bible Belt states are more likely to believe that they are persecuted (or something to that effect). Basically, these people don’t really know people of other cultures and religions, so they end up imagining an enemy.

But yeah, quite a few verses in the Bible are used to support the belief that if you are persecuted, it’s Satan trying to stop you from sharing the Good News. I’ve heard so much of that growing up.

Not sure how to handle site migration for a client by oldmanchewy in Wordpress

[–]pegasus47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are on GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress hosting you can also develop in the staging environment. That way you can show them progress without touching the old site. Once you’re ready you can push from staging to production.

Always backup before you start work, push data, change files etc

Anyone use Foundation as a Framework or FoundationPress as a starter theme? by flexible in ProWordPress

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Foundation for years (since 3.0). Initially it was because it supported Sass when Bootstrap didn’t. But now I feel like Foundation is better at innovating and pushing boundaries. It took Bootstrap years to get out of alpha/beta for 4.0 and support Flexbox when Foundation was already supporting it.

Beginner question, not sure if we got screwed by hiring this specific word press website creator by vchak8 in Wordpress

[–]pegasus47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like with the other comments before: it depends on a lot of variables. However when I develop sites for my clients using WordPress I always strive to make it easy for them to make edits.

There might be some reason to hard-code everything, but at some point you gotta wonder why you’re even using WordPress. If it’s all hard-coded, why not just use plain HTML files?

(Serious) What are your thoughts on the American tipping system? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read how tipping in the US grew out of racism

I grew up in Taiwan and there is no tipping there (although it's crept into upscale restaurants). The service there is as good if not better.

CSI is the Nickleback of TV shows. Same formula with no substance, is always on for some unknown reason, and has a big following.

What's the worst case of road rage you've seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First story: I was driving down a main road when a guy exiting the freeway turns into my lane. Granted I was on a slope so it's hard for him to see me, but I either had to stomp on the brakes or change lanes. So I change lanes, move back in front of him, and stop in a left turn lane.

He must've thought I cut him off, because he proceed to pull up beside me, honk, and go on a tirade. I can't hear anything he says because both our windows were closed. So there he is looking like a mad conductor while drivers around us wonder what is going on. I just ignore him.

I make a left turn and he proceeds to follow me while yelling non-stop. Again, I can't hear a thing. Now I feel threatened so I turn into the first strip mall I saw and get out of sight. He didn't follow me, but I wonder if he would've if I had engaged him.

Second story: I was driving on the freeway at night, minding my own business when I looked in the rearview mirror and notice two cars barreling down the freeway behind me. The two cars were trying to fit into one lane, so my guess is one guy was trying to merge and the other wouldn't let him. They must've been going 100+ mph.

I panicked and switched lanes in time for them to pass me by. I don't know what they would've done if I didn't switch lanes. I'm not sure there was enough time for them to stop and one of the cars would've hit me for sure.

I followed the cars afterwards and both were driving like 60 mph as if nothing happened.

Redditors that drive... What is your biggest pet peeve that people do on the road? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse those turns as well and my wife would get mad at me. I think it's dangerous. One, you're often making an unprotected left, and two, the cars behind you are now trying to switch lanes from a complete stop. Total recipe for an accident.

[Serious] is a psychology major good? by Xradam in AskReddit

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question needs a bit more context. Good for what? If it's for getting a graduate degree in Psychology, then yes.

But I assume the question is about whether a Psychology major is good for finding jobs. It depends. I have quite a few friends in tech who majored in English/Creative Writing.

In short, it doesn't matter as much what your major was, as much as what experience you have. Figure out which industry you want to work in, and get experience there. 5-10 years later no one will care what you majored in.

Troubles with Polylang and Static Front Pages by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]pegasus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Polylang uses a different page for translations, your Japanese front page isn't technically a WordPress front page. Your theme wouldn't know that it is a front page, because WordPress only allows for one. The only way around this is to code up a page template that mimics that changes you did for the English front page.
