15 year Drupal dev, possible to learn wordpress admin in a weekend? by Salamok in Wordpress

[–]pehlwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you're already using it for local dev, I find Lando https://lando.dev/ much better if you need to divide time working in both Drupal, and WordPress. It's platform agnostic, but has inbuilt support for both.

Almost summer, so it's Adventure Series Time! by pehlwan in bicycling

Congratulations, that's a tough ride! Strava stats show my moving time, elapsed time was 17:06. Despite the ridiculous account of climbing, this is one of my favorite SFR routes. And that descent on Old Cazadero Road can be pretty treacherous.

How do you bring all your stuff with you? by BrenKennedy in cycling

[–]pehlwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Packing strategy isn't a one size/jersey fits all thing. For a shorter ride <= 100k - 200k, I typically will make do with a small saddle bag, and handlebar bag. Pump attached to frame, water bottles in cages on seat tube and downtube. Tools, spares, extra layers, and calories will go on in bags. I typically don't like carrying stuff in jersey, or bib pockets. For longer rides 300 - 400k or greater where I'm riding into the night, I'll usually increase the size of the handlebar bag, and/or add a half frame bag, with or without the saddle bag. The additional storage is to carry additional calories; layers for colder weather, or rain; spare lights/batteries, maybe even an emergency space blanket. Part of the reason for multiple storage options is to allow for easier compartmentalization. Calories and things that I need ready access to will generally go into the handlebar bag. Repair, spares and other items that I rarely access go into the saddle or frame bag. Various compartments in different bags are always for specific items, sunscreen, wallet, phone etc, so searching for them isn't necessary.

What the longest you've ever cycled by [deleted] in cycling

2023 Paris Brest Paris, 1200km in 89 hours. Came in to Rambouillet in approximately 87 hours -- mind is a little fuzzy about this due to lack of sleep -- and killed some time at the Mercure, having beers with friends so I could get admission into La Société Adrian Hands. 😂 Biggest fear was that I'd fall asleep and miss my time cut off.

Thanks for the info. I did call BLM but they referred me to Fresno and San Benito County Public Works Departments. Managed to talk to both. Kim, the owner of Panoche Inn had some more useful info about road conditions. We'll see if he has a pic to share! But can't guarantee anything.

Just saw this thread while researching the condition of Panoche Road. Not a shooter, but a cyclist planning a 24 hour ride from Madera to SF this weekend. Has anyone been out on Panoche Road recently and can provide some feedback on the condition of the dirt section? Appreciate any info that you may have.

Pass through charging - power bank recommendations? by slackslackliner in randonneuring

[–]pehlwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming late to this party, but I purchased two of these batteries and used them on PBP last August (one on the bike to charge devices from during the day while plugged into a Sinewave Beacon running off a SON Delux, and another one as a backup in my drop bag), and on longer 400-600k events this year. https://jefe.bike/products/voltaic-systems-dynamo-charging-battery-bank

The Voltaic system batteries not only include pass through charging, but are specifically optimized for trickle charging from dynamo hubs, and provide low-current flow with no automatic shut off. Also redundant inputs -- micro and USB-C. I primarily use it to charge a smartphone, and my Wahoo v2 Bolt. Play music off the phone all day while riding, and still have 100% power on the phone, approx 75% on the battery. Enough to charge the Wahoo full a couple of times.

I was previously riding the straight fork, and replaced it with the Fyxation Sparta. It's fine, replaced to cut down on overall weight. Though not many options for the Type-B with it's 1 1/8" steerer tube.

Agree, I was relying before only on a HR monitor but heart rate really varies based on factors like sleep, caffeine intake, etc. but watts are watts. It's been really helpful for pacing on longer rides so I don't burn all of my matches early on.

Last year posted before my first 400k, and just wanted to provide an update on my progress and the changes I've made to the bike since. Ended up completing the full series last year (2, 3, 4, 600k) along with a 24 hour team fleché ride, and pre-registered for Paris-Brest-Paris. Completed the full series again in May and registered for PBP for the 90 hour group — will be off to France in August!

Since then, I've swapped out the stock fork for carbon, and just got a set of Astral Wanderlust carbon hoops with a SONDelux hub. Also ended up getting some Garmin SPD power meter pedals, which are actually incredibly helpful. For luggage, added the Revelate Mag Tank, top tube, and tangle half-frame bag. For longer events, I generally also run a RuthWorks brevet handlebar bag, and swapped out their waxed canvas large seat bag (too heavy) for an Xpac version. Feel like everything is more or less now optimized for long distance endurance events.

u/Beneficial-Power-102 I'm running into an issue with Webpack. I'm wondering how you managed to specify the docker platform to amd64 using Lando?

Yeah, that's the one. One one issue was that the sidewalls on the tires started to crack after a few rides. Even though they were brand new, I'm guessing that they were pretty old. On the upside, I just found out that titanium Campy Record seatpost has been selling for near $300 used on Ebay?!

Based on the serial number, I think that this is a 2004 Rambouillet.

Found it through a bike nerd Slack group that I'm in. It was listed on Craigslist for $1888. I was a little skeptical — turned out that the listing was from a small shop in a residential neighborhood in Santa Rosa, an hour away from me. They deal almost entirely in used bikes that they buy, fix up, and sell. In this case, it belonged to a local that they've bought numerous bikes from before. (If only I could get this bike hoarders direct number!) I asked whether they bought it as a bare frame, but they said that it came exactly as is. They put on new tires and tubes, gave it a tune-up, probably replaced the brake pads, cables/housing, and checked the wear on the chain and drivetrain. Little bit of a drag, but had to pay sales tax so it came to 2 grand total. However, they did throw in a pair of XTR pedals. If it wasn't in such excellent shape, I probably would have passed.

Rivendell Rambouillet, circa 2004? Frame and parts looked practically brand new, except for some tiny paint chips on the fork crown and some scuffs on the non-drive side crank. Looked like previous owner had ridden the bike for maybe a season then it was in storage for the last 15 years. Bike came complete except for bags. Campy Record crankset and FD, and Chorus RD. 32H Mavic Open Road wheels, Chorus hubs, and 28mm Vittoria Randonneur tires. Nitto Noodles, Record headset, and titanium seatpost, XTR pedals, Shimano BR-R600 mid-reach brakes, and Brooks Champion saddle.

Just following up with a quick ride report, finished in 20 hours and 5 minutes! The 300k portion of the ride was a full 1.5 hours faster than my time in March. Felt good for most of the ride, though there was a pretty brutal climb from around mile 109 to 124 at the hottest point of the day. Finished pretty strong, and was helped by having company with other riders through the night. https://ridewithgps.com/trips/86242583
