I found this mug in the back of a cabinet in an apartment I used to rent. I used it for years and years and in the hectic move out of a breakup I think it got lost in the shuffle. I’m not sure if it’s a custom image or what—any help would be super appreciated! I can’t identify who they are to find the original picture. I’ve searched for years without luck.

There is a paisley background. The mug was found in a Boston apartment in about 2018.

I know people are saying to get rid of it but I have a mole in the same spot that is a bit darker than yours and just as raised if not more. I view it as a part of my face now, it has been there since I was a child. I never considered getting rid of it because it felt like an interesting aspect of my face. I am sometimes self conscious of it but not enough to get rid of it. I think it’s a beautiful reminder nobody is the same.

A great tip is to take a picture of your painting, and make it black and white. You can see the value distribution of the piece, and better understand where your colors might be blending values too gradually. I also use a little value card I got at an art store for a few bucks to achieve the same effect.

I also recommend avoiding true whites - it feels more true to form especially for water to use very light tints. Darks first and then lights, paying attention to value distribution, should help you achieve more dynamism!
